@ministryoftruth1984 Actually, the Rebel Alliance didn't build the base on Yavin IV. (The one in the movie.) They actually occupied an abandoned temple ;)

Also, the Rebel Alliance IS a military after all, they fight battles and wars and lose soldiers. They have to honor those who fought bravely and all those who served with distinction, that still happens in the modern US military.

Also, they thought they won the war, or at least settled it for a long long time, so why not party? ;)
