Thanks for posting this live clip of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. Please pardon my ignorance, what TV program was this clip taken from? Did Midnight Oil perform a complete concert for the TV program?
I am a kiwi who would stick up for any thing NZ because I like to support my country. But the Oils are from Aus and I cannot deny their brilliance. They are truly a band that made performances as great as their albums.
What a fucking bald cunt. No-one but the fucking Greens like this mong. Even the Unions who have supported the Labor party for years have abandoned Labor and this epileptic retard.
Best band ever! There music screams about the insane injustices that continue on and on! Their music also crosses borders in that, the plights of the Aborigine that are in so many of their songs, could easily be the same plight of any oppressed people the world over!
@tom3999 I don't think this song is much about the mountain, but rather mt. K as a symbol for something larger -- else why the remarks about 'darkness over Charleville' etc. Certainly Mt K is not between Darwin & Alice Springs. Unfortunately I do not know (nor have been able to find out) what the significance is of Charleville in this song, or what's meant by people trying to cross the road etc, but it seems to be about Australia as a whole nation -- ancient blacks and modern whites combined
both superb musicians - agreed a very silly non quantifyable comment - i mean that respectfully so there is no deluge of abuse as is common
i went to oz for the first time in 97 and it was just after my dad died and i bumped into peter in an indian takeout in ashfield , he waited so i could get my camera! as a massive oils fan it soothed things what a great human being .. who are people to judge himand call him a sellout until they have done the amount of work he has for a fair and just world

@DanameaTheBattleLock oh ha ha ho ho, yes indeed they should just have been new age musicians. Unless of course they wanted to make a difference ... oh! well that explains it then :)
this is a real revolutionary band, Im mexican living in the states all my life, and I love peter garret as well as zapata, long live the oil, from california
@chikkipop . I think Giff left because of long touring schedules, family commitments, exhaustion etc etc. He went on to start up the world famous bikini company " Wicked Weasel " and has made a fortune creating the worlds smallest bikini's. Very Rock n' Roll indeed ! He still ranks as the No1 Australian bassist with me, and would love to see him strap on the ol' battered P-Bass one more time !
Ahhh I loved red sails and 10-1 other than that their songs were hit and miss for me, but every song off both those albums kick ass, even bakerman LOL . And who doesnt love doin the Garret dance hehe
Mount Kosciuszko is a mountain located in the Snowy Mountains in Kosciuszko National Park Australia. It is the highest mountain in Australia (not including its external territories).[1] It was named by the Polish explorer Count Paul Edmund Strzelecki in 1840, in honour of the Polish national hero General Tadeusz Kościuszko, because of its perceived resemblance to the Kościuszko Mound in Krakow.[2]
I've always rated Midnight Oil performing with Yothu Yindi in Palmerston North, New Zealand in 1995 as the best concert I have ever been to over 23 years.
Dude, ur so right, awsumm band and their music will never go out of fashion, all the new music out now is about love and crap. Midnight Oil was also fantastic at Sound Relief 2009 !
Totally agree with you dude, all these songs about raping white women, and singing shit like i kissed a girl and i fucked a duck, new music just sucks
Good on ya Mate. Play the Oils in New York! I always take Midnight Oil songs when i travel. Us Aussies know how to Rock. Saw them Perform last weekend in my home town. They still went off beautifully.
Now a days there are almost no bands or true artist, just people expert at marketing their filthy, decrepit and malevolent ideologies through the subliminal moods of music.
This band had essence. Lyrics. Music. Melody. I miss it. I'd like very much to wake up one day and have the notice that they come back to play again around the world. The nowadays bands are true trashes.
me too, although i have had a lot of music snobs laugh at me over it. that's just increased my doubt about the appreciation level that music snobs actually have.
@Corrupt5358 The Same class as Floyd. The Oils made music with a message not just tripped out acid rock, what a fucked up comment the two bands are worlds apart. Both are great......but so different.

Correct spelling of the mountain/track in 1985 was "Kosciusko". It is now known as "Kosciuszko" (Polish spelling).
Flowerbranche 2 years ago
Correct spelling is:Kościuszko the surname of one of the polish heros.
