@ericlord821 thanx for completing the story of 20centjes. I learned a lot about myself..like jumping to conclusions based on my feelings without knowing the facts ;-) !
@20centjes thanx for giving me the facts of his death. Like I said...it was a just feeling and I dramatized it. Still it's a great loss...what he did in his music and with his his voice was and is amazing!
To make it clear, Jeff died of an accidental drowning after he went for a swim. He was found a few days later near Beal Street in Memphis, where he was recording his second album title Sketches For My Sweetheart the Drunk. There has been talk about whether or not he swam with the intention of taking his own life. Out of respect for Jeff and his family, I truly believe it was an accidental drowning. Jeff had everything going for him at the time despite the pressure that he was under.
How you could doubt the sheer depth of feeling here is beyond me. I'm not a 'remarkable musician', merely a fairly intuitive person, and even if you aren't, I think you can feel the raw emotion in his voice. And hey, if he's faking it, then I'm a fool and he's bloody good at it :P
Didn't think anyone could sing this worse than Dylan himself - but the false emotion (IMHO) in this rendition proved me wrong - what do I know (? - rhetorical question - don't be upset) Dylan to be fair wrote it and the song is brilliant but his (dylan's) singing is an aquired taste - many great versions of this song exist (this isn't one, sorry)
@HISATdotCOM actually dude sorry you don't get it. You must be a remarkable musician to be able to hear a singer and tell if the emotion is real or not. BtW listen to the guitar as well. As a guitarist and teacher of 35 years i can tell you that this is the real deal.sadly missed by all who saw a breath of fresh air , a kind soul and a depth of talent that saw him followed around on tour by the likes of jimmy page! a true musicians musician. I guess if you are one yourself then you'll get it.
@swine69 didn't mean to vote your post 'thumbs down' - youtube won't let me change it (I thought you were being an ass saying only a musician could tell this is brilliant).... HISATdotCOM is a deuche, and although I'm a very skilled musician (guitarist, pianist, singer, drummer - used to teach and all that jazz), any decent human with a decent ear knows how genuinely beautiful Jeff's rendition of almost anything is. And, pffft, Bob Dylan or Buckley?? haha.
Thank you for putting this back on youtube. The way HE sings it, cuts me way down through my soul; and uncoveres all the heartbreak I had in my life, and also confronts me with the woman I've been sometimes. The knife cuts both sides. Makes me sad that Jeff B. couln't face life anymore...

@20centjes You are right; I don't know what killed him; maybe it's a feeling that he took his own life...in a way..How did he die?

@swine69 I totally agree. His vocal range and technique are second to none in my book. He is one of the most underrated guitarists too.

@11ingkey Jeff didn't kill himself. He hated the romantic idea of dying young.
