Toms and bass sound good, but I like a wood snare sound more. Wood snares produce a more natural crack to them that metal drums or in this case acrylic drums don't produce.

@QuickestQuickChop They are indeed as sturdy and reliable as any maple, birch, or any wood set. I have a Gretsch Catalina lacquer finish maple set as well as my acrylic Ludwig Vistalites and the Vistalite drums are heavier and thicker than the Catalina drums. Also as mrdrumstixx asked they would absolutly not shatter if dropped. In fact I believe wood drums would be at least as easy to damage if not easier than the acrylics. As I said before, take care of them and have them practically forever.

@QuickestQuickChop My Vistalite set is 38 years old and still in really good shape so like anything else, if you take good care of it it will last a long time. I suspect when they get the spider cracks around the lugs it's from someone having taken them off then overtightening when putting them back on or other cracks or splits come from dropping a drum or not paying attention and bashing one into a wall corner while moving them etc. Treat them with care and have them practically foerever.

@Psychostick1 The pros of an acrylic kit are they are non-porous so you don't get any bad unwanted over-ring on the toms as you heard on this guys video like you do with a lot of wood sets. You get that nice solid crack from the snare and the bass usually has more "punch" to it again without too much over-ring. Also, they are the coolest looking drums on stage (I have a blue acrylic Vistalite set).

The cons are they could develop small cracks to all out splits (especially if they have seams)

Well, you can always go fo rthe drumstore option, they will usually tune them for you. But, it's something you have to learn yourself. Check out the drum tuning bible, it explains EVERYTHING and is a very good guide to how to get the best sound out of your drums. Just google the Drum tuning bible and you'll find it. :) good luck man!
