Slap shots yes and slap passes yes...every second of Nick's career is on video (tons of Orr's best never made it on film), and this is his greatest...shesh. Light years behind Orr. Go watch the video...then if you come back and argue, I will know who I'm dealing with. Nick is an All Star...Orr is in his own stratosphere!!

Great footage, very high quality. The NHL put all of the expansion teams in one division in the last 60's, so the Blues did not really belong in the Stanley Cup Finals.Bobby Orr proved that point .

2nd: Gretzky came into the league during a larger expansion and influx of inferior players from other leagues, WHL, etc...

So that arguement don't wash.

Orr couldn't carry Gretky's spit bucket. Orr played in a watered down league, during expansion. They players weren't athletes, just beer drinking losers.

Orr was a wimp too, he couldn't take the hard play and had to quit. That's after having a career of being protected by the Big Bad Bruins, today they are called goons. In reality, they were Orr's body guards.

Continued: No disrepect to Orr, Lemieux and Gretzky, but when Terry decided to let no pucks into the net, then the game was over. It even doesn't matter what era he played in, because it wasn't shinny hockey by any means!

Orr couldn`t avoid that skill of not getting hit as somebody mentioned.He was a defensemen and he was the greatest at that position and when your on defense you have to hit.Not to mention that he can score at will and also assist even better.Bobby Orr was without a doubt the greatest hockey player that ever lived.

Considering Orr the best ever is no insult to Gretzky or Lemieux. Comparing players from different eras is difficult. The Plus-Minus numbers DO NOT LIE. They are the great equalizer when it comes to comparisons. Since none of these 3 in question played for a bad club---the plus-minus numbers are even more accurate. Orr's plus-minus numbers simply obliterate all other players, period. Also---defense is a much harder position. No such thing as floating or coasting as a defenseman.

Gretzky had at least one crucial skill that Orr didn't have: a knack for not getting hit-- especially in the knees.

Or he was a bitch....Orr fought his way into a league that was dominated by fighting, we know this as Old Time Hockey. The Bruins still exemplify this today if you watch them.

He could have skated around everyone but he chose not to. He changed the game as much as Gretzky did. He was the first defenseman to skate end to end and oh yah...circles around everyone else.

The problem with using plus/minus to compare them is that, I believe, during part of Orr's career they awarded a plus-point if the team scored on a power play. I believe they changed the rule because of Orr, BTW. For his assists, he also had some extraordinary scoring talent to pass to.

It's difficult to judge, though. The highlights I've been able to find of Gretzky all start within the offensive blue-line or at least at center-ice.

Best D ever...hands down. I'm a Habs fan but admired Orr tremendously...he rarely lost the puck, had a great low shot, great vision, hands etc....he had it all...except a good knee doctor that butchered him and an agent that fucked him over. Hockey world's loss. He's also a hell of a nice guy too if you meet him. You rock Robert G. Orr!
