Isn't it kind of the point of a horror game to scare the pants off someone? A gun is a source of comfort. Take away all comfort and put the person in an unusual situation and scare the crap out of them.

dude, have you done this mod all by yourself? damn you're good. nice imagination. by the way. i'll play it after installing vista because i want to record my reactions , i'm rolling 7 right now and fraps ain't working exactly right on it . but i've got to the part were that "witch" is at the end of a coridor , the flashlight turns off and when it turn on again she flyes towords me spining her upper body in exorcist-like style. that meant ALT+F4 for me :D

This is something like F.E.A.R rip off but with more effective scares in the dark from what I can see. The dark scares in F.E.A.R. are gay but these are actually stressful and become scary at one point.

"Jump out and go boo" isn't scary. It's shocking. There's a difference. At this point, the crying woman in the corner isn't scary, either. That's cliche.

Yeah. There's a difference between being scared and being startled. Having played Left 4 Dead, crying girl in a corner who jumps up and attacks you isn't scary.

An example of something scary in a game would be a slow moving enemy, who you can see, but it can't see you. It's searching for you, you're out of ammo, and you're trying to sneak by it without being caught. You know if it sees you, you are dead.

Of course that's just one example, but it has nothing to do with being startled.
