  • @AJ627 I'm commander shepherd and this is my favorite comment on the video

  • you know, obviously in tangled is unlike the other cgi films due its special animation technic they used

  • i can finally see how the lady chef´s boobs look like! nice

  • I'm glad I found this again. I remember watching this over and over again when the movie first came out. It's really cool to see all the different stages and steps that are needed to get the wonderful finished product.

  • You can make a animation in a 3d environment, but in the end it wil be seen in 2d.

  • @JBMoevies that makes no sense

  • I hear the ppl crying out for 2d. I tried both (3d first in an animation class, and 2d on my own), and 2d is just way more satisfying to do, and the result much more fun to look at if done at a proper FPS. Everything originates from a sketch on paper/screen.I heard that if the poses and the scene doesn't look good on paper, it won't look good in 3d.That shows how important 2d is.Not saying 3d is bad - they have to marry both.I believe Tangled is the 1st & perfect example of this.

  • @glitch2424

Yeah but the proper FPS takes SO MUCH TIME! :P My sister is in the Art Institute of York, and when I hear her stories, its just wow. So much time and effort to make thirty second animations, but the animation is gorgeous :D

  • my cousin is named REMY AHAHA

  • do people not realize 2d is far from outdated. im a student of both and i think most people forget all about tv, as well as movies....

  • Thank you so much for uploading. thia stuff is really interesting and insightful!!

  • Yeah sad but true, 2D animation is outdated.

  • "i killed a man... with this thumb

  • I love the storyboard :D still the old fashioned 2D disney style d'awwww the memories

  • Nice to see the Pro-gress

  • I just love seeing the different layers/ making of stuff like this --so interesting and inspiring -- much like the film itself!

  • how are the first animations drawn, are they done by hand or on the computer?if computer, is a tablet used?

  • @XxLightNTheDarknessX it seems like a tablet draw : D

  • @XxLightNTheDarknessX How storyboards are drawn really tend to differ from artist to artist. It can be traditional, digital or maybe both. For this scene in particular, judging by how the lines look it was probably done with the use of a tablet in a graphic program such as photoshop.

  • to me it's so fascinating to see how it all started, or at least what it started from. i would love to work at pixar to be apart of these spectacular creations.

  • Coollll!!! It advances to the final product XD

  • goodness i really hope i can work at pixar some day this is so amazing.

  • 1:19 Floating heads.

  • So much work went into those shots, it's mindblowing! I love this work! :)

  • That is incredible! I always think about how much work it must have taken to make Ratatouille look as beautiful as it is.

Also, this scene is one of my favorites.

  • wow wow wow i Love (Pixar)

  • No disrespect to computer animation (its quite marvelous!) but to me this looks rather strange until the lighting comes in. I only say this because even with the praise this sort of animation gets, I prefer the progression reels for traditional animation. I love watching drawings come to life more than seeing these puppets develop in their artificial environment.

That's my opinion. 3D is great, but I don't think it could ever replace 2D.

  • It may look "wierd" to you, but they are necessery planning stages. 3D is just as much of an art as 2D. Pixar especially never abandon traditional storytelling or asthetics. Look into it a bit more and maybe it'll appeal to you.

  • I'm sorry if my comment seemed hateful. I fully understand that the early stages aren't meant to look glorious, and the entire process IS an artform in itself. Pixar's folks are extremely talented artists and storytellers.

I only meant to express my opinion that 2D animation should not simply be replaced by this technique. I could go on and on about this, but I only have limited space to write here. Just understand that I miss 2D animation (though 3D is great, too)

  • Noo, you weren't hateful don't worry. I appreciate that yeah, becuase alot of feature CG's do suck. I think 2D will come back, but only as a sideline to 3D. Right now it's used as more of an educational process than anything.

  • @Balloonbot They did digital 2-D story boarding.

  • @Balloonbot I am a Traditional Animator and I %100 agree with this comment :)

  • I personally agree with you. I still marvel at the artistic skill plus the technological intuitiveness that it takes to complete professional quality pieces like this, but I really really miss the 2D stuff- integration of 2d and 3d effects are the best, like the stuff in Tarzan and even back with Beauty and the Beast (dance scene)

  • @JKM12988 The dance scene in Beauty and the Beat was not 3-D. :<

  • @Shinobro yes it was- the background of the ballroom, not the characters.

  • Thank you so much for putting this up. It's always great to get perspective from the pros.

  • Really interesting. Thanks.

  • awesome!
