Steve gets a lot more credit than he deserves, imo. His sense of melody and of songwriting is virtually non-existent. All he does is make really weird sounds on electric guitar. He's afraid of the acoustic guitar, it separates the men from the boys. His Mastery lies in the technical wizardry, melody is not his strong point. He never did equal the prowess of his mentor, Satriani, in that way... w/ Zappa, of course, I grant his world-class technical ability. He's just not melodic or creative, imo.
