this was at renfro valley. i believe mac wisemans festival. i was at this festival and heard them do this song together a couple of times (different times of the days or different days) this was about 71. i was still in high school.
sorry but, its true i know your going to argrue with me. but don't ok. i know my bluegrass history. listen why would he forgot the words if it was 1971 he played 8 more years. no sorry. its more like 78 or 79, thats why he didn't play guitar on the jed song. in the last couple of years it would only play guitar on a couple of songs
@bluegrassman776 Both Uncle Josh Graves and Roland White were gone from Lester's band by about 1972, so yes, this indeed is from '71 or '72. Anyone who would say that it is in '78 or '79 doesn't know what they are talking about. If 1978 then, where is Marty Stuart? He did joined Flatt's band in 1972 when Roland White left. By 1978, Marty was still with the band and about 19 or 20 years old.
Sounds traditional, is it? If not, who wrote and when? Love it.3 ezy chords. Couldn't find lyrics anywhere, so had to type it, but a joy to listen to over and over as i did so. Thanks fr positng.
FANTASTIC video...Wow sure brings back memories of my Mom and Dad who loved bluegrass music..! Guess that's why I can't get past country myself..LOL Thanks going out to my sweet friend HANKWILLIAMS1924 for sharing this with me and to Chubbyfan100 for posting it! :)
I got this album when I was in college in 1971 and this song is absolutely one of my favorites. The whole album and Lester's Kentucky Ridgerunner album from that same time are just timeless and worth the effort to convert to CD. Thanks for posting this video of a great tune.
@tavernacletom Did you ever find out who was on your original 45 for this? You say radio show late 50s, early 60s. Just curious when this song was written, and verify Mac Wiseman wrote it. Sure sounds like a traditional, but that is probably Wiseman's songwriting skill. I mean Gillian Welch writes songs now that sound traditional.
It just don't get any better than this.THANKS

tavernacletom: Mac recorded for CMH Records
in 1980 with the Osborne Brothers the single:
Bluebird Singing For Me/Mother Maybelle.
I have the information from wikipedia.
Chubbyfan100 2 years ago
Chubbyfan: Nah...the version I have is from an Eddie Stubbs radio show...it's 60's at the latest..maybe late 50's cause Mac's voice is so high

The Osborne Brothers singing the song with
Mother Maybell in 1981, another with
Mac Wiseman.
The original release ?

Who sang on The original 45 of "There'a a Bluebird'? thanks..any chance it's an Osborne?
