excellent movie, great acting & story, Love especially Ed Harris's two dimensional character, simple, no complex thoughts, a simple man functioning in a simple no grey area world
At one point I would not have been remotely interested in westerns but there has been a trend in the last few years with this, No Country for Old Men etc.... im going to have to check some of them out;
@WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 Make sure you check out Appaloosa too - one of my favorite westerns in recent years. No Country is garbage in my opinion. The movie ends before the climax, nothing really gets resolved, and all the characters are weak except for the villain. Truly a putrid movie, if you can even call it a movie. I still regret seeing it.
You don't realize how intense this trailer music is until you listen to it on its own.
This movie is one of the best. I don't just say that because it's an actual decent Western made in the 21st century, but because it's full-out awesome.
@LCRCBOY I know right? I'm suddenly way more interested in this whole Western genre now..I have the urge to watch The Assassination of Jesse James too. XD
If you found this boring and naive then 3:10 to Yuma will be a disappointment and also a joke. There's none of the 'classic western feel' and Russel Crowe's character is perfect... God I hate Russel Crowe.
For me this movie was a big disappointment. The cast is great (except Renee) but i dont know if Ed Harris should continue as a director. The movie felt SO boring and the dialogue was sometimes very naive. Maybe it was the lack of a proper script, i dunno. Im going to see 3:10 to Yuma soon.
I agree. Open Range was very well done. If you ever get a chance read the Appaloosa novel by Robert B. Parker. Every one of his Western novels are great reading.
Good Westerns have become a rarity these days. This movie is a rarity and we have the author, Robert Parker to thank for the idea. The movie was well done.
I just saw this movie and I was surprised at how good it was. Sometimes movies like this seem to pass under the radar when they deserve lots of attention.
Good acting, good plot, interesting characters. And they also made an attempt to make it seem realistic, with the way guns were handled and sounded, and they way the courts were run in the wild west, etc. 5/5, I recommend this movie to anyone who likes a good western.
Damn Ed Harris did a fine acting and directing job. Amazing craftsman. Abyss, Apollo 13, The Rock, Appaloosa, Beautiful Mind, Truman Show, oh hell you name it, he's superb! he really is one of the greatest. Like a Tom Hanks or Denzel Washington. They can play a totally different character one film to the next and even change up their appearance in the process and roll with, no questions asked. Not to mention he gave himself 2nd billing in his own film when he's clearly the lead!!! Class act!
Agreed. The scene in the bar where viggo lets loose with his 8g was soemthing else...not sure if thats the scene you mean...or was it the one at the cousin's jail?
Agreed I about jumped from my seat in both scenes. When Viggo cut that dude in half with the 8g..I cheered. Also that gun fight at the cousins jail was hard core...
actually, arm the citizens and allow them to defend themselves against wicked men. You give lawmen too much authority and they end up abusing the citizenry. Like in one of the scenes in this movie. Ed Harris beats the snot out of an innocent man and gets away with it.
The only thing a criminal or tyrant fears is death. The firearm provides that fear for your protection. What are you going to do if an armed criminal invades your house? Ask him to kindly leave?
No, a criminal fears getting caught and an invader doesn't really carry a weapon with him when going inside a house. You've been watching too many movies. The reason I know that is because I actually did live in bad neighborhoods and having a gun is the last thing you need.
Whoa, Ed Harris directed this? COOL! This movie looks so awesome...I mean, Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen, and Jeremy Irons all in one! I really want to read the book now...:)
Other film trailers have also done stuff like this before. The people who made this trailer did a good job but the director should fire them for giving away too much.
