In the dungeon you found, covering the spawner with blocks doesn't stop it functioning. It'll only stop spawning if you raise the light level on the spawner. So... torch next to it and on top of it.

In dungeons (spawner rooms) you have more of a chance of finding a apple(or golden) than a strong hold. You found two already sadly you only got a disc and a saddle

Pretty sure that you can't block off spawners, you just have to keep light level high in the areas around it, which can be done with a few torches. Why is it that everyone seems to think it's the converse?
