I wish I could have been born with Jaco's face and talent, but I'm just an average guy trying to pull the best of what Nature gave to him. Maybe I should feel grateful for not having Jaco's toumented mind ?
This is Weather Report at their best! The only issue is Wayne Shorter getting caught up with the head in the double time. Joe and the Aux. Percussion call him out haha. AWESOME!
Grande versione. Questo è uno dei giri di basso che preferisco da Jaco. Specie le rare dissonanze, appena percettibili. Ma la versione originale mi rimane nel <3
It's really better to listen to this without watching them, not because they look unsightly, but because the music hits you that much harder if you're not concentrating on a visual.
It's funny coming from old WR videos where all the comments are like "Miroslav leaving was the end of WR", and all the music is like aimless jamming with no groove.
I have all their stuff, and occasionally I'll listen to the first few albums. But I constantly come back to this stuff. When Alphonso Johnson joined till the end of the Jaco lineup is some of the most beautiful, creative, fun music to listen to. When you balance composition and improv with groove and talent you get rare beauty.
Weather Report was the most popular and most influential JAZZ group of the 1970's for sure, and possibly of all time. This video is more evidence, as if it is even needed, for the reason why that was so. Uninformed, small-minded people with political and racial agendas will always attempt to minimize their greatness. Revisionists will never be able to erase Weather Report's musical legacy no matter how hard they try.

I think this group was overrated. they were mostly worshipped by pseudointellectual white boomers who grew up listening to rock (the Beatles, etc.) and wanted to listen to something more "mature" in their 20s and 30s. They didn't "get" trad. jazz (nor like it) but still wanted to brag to their pseudointellectual friends that they listened to it; hence, Weather Report. Regardless of Shorter's presence, I think they had close to "0" black fans with all-white audiences at their concerts.
I hope the guy that gives to this thumbs down have Parkinson. There's no other explanation not to not like this masterpiece. I was never into drugs, but that would be an acceptable excuse for coke to enhance perception when listening Barbary Coast.
Just love listening to Wayne Shorter...wow! They're all great, Jaco Pastorious is killing it too. I don't know if the moog solo has stood the test of time, at times it sounds hopelessly dated, even silly...sorry Joe, RIP, but the piano chords are great though!
Wayne looks like he got out of the shower to play on stage...

Everyone playing in this video looks stoned out of their mind. But they still make amazing music.
