  • Why does it sound like everything is behind me? Doesnt it work in front?

  • @TheRealQawser Fact is, that sensing front/rear is NEVER very clear, not even with real ears and real sounds... just try it, blindfolded, on a quiet field, with someone clapping fro various directions :)

We are best at sensing left/right and near/far.

  • yes for one i have to agree with you what u say about Binural audio, its amazing quality, btw i made my self a binural mic using a pair of old head phones and 2 microphone modules, i will post a like soon to the wiering diagram

  • @mattiebboy Top marks for enterprise !! Looking forward to any further details of your project :)

  • Binaural porn would be a great idea.

  • @OttarErOsom Those who love porn... should have BINAURAL porn.... and those who love Beethoven should have BINAURAL Beethoven... it will come :)

  • Nice Demo and Good Idea

  • @maciekkk123 Glad you appreciate it :)

  • i swear when the chick began talking i thought som1 was behind me ...

WHY YOU GETTING CLOSER TO ME?!?! LOL

  • My VERY FIRST Binaural Experience was in Keswick, at a carol singing, and a guy showed me how amazing it was. Putting on the headphones, I really thought the choir had started up again !!

If that guy is ever calling here.... BIG THANKYOU !!

  • Great points! I absolutely agree that we need more binaural audio providers!

If you're looking for more musical examples of binaural audio, check out Kall Binaural Audio in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We release new audio and video demos with binaural sound every few weeks.

  • Hi. Nice demo! I've seen the Soundman microphones online... do you think it would be worth to purchase those mics to record a drum session? Thank you very much.

  • @zeppelo Sorry, I dont know those microphones. Glad you liked the demo :)

  • i think some movie like Project Blair witch or REC should have a binaural recording process or a kind of Q sound in a special track call " binaural stereo 3D for headphone ". it was also intersting to heard some old album using the Q sound and binaural recording as Michael Jackson Dangerous or Pink floyd using those process, but some "remastered" release have an awfull hyper compressed stereo mix, without that 3d effect it's pretty lame.

  • is that Colin Firth in King's Speech speaking?

  • @speechpessi WELL !! You think I sound like Colin Firth ? Then I take it as a complement :)

  • I think that one reason is because good binaural microphones cost so much. Neumann makes the KU 100 binaural microphone, and it would be great, except the fact that is cost's $10,000. To me it really doesn't seem that worth it

  • Totally Agree and i would love to do an album in Binaural :). I'll will be making some music soon in binaural, as i do make most of my music on Headphones. I yet to hear in binaural music, though some music i listen to does sound 3D in some tracks.

    Nathan

  • @ShuRugal1 Yes, I think YouTube has compressed our files to save space. Quality has definitely got worse. One day I'll do another demo.

  • This music doesn't work from the frontal direction. That is the only problem.

  • @god0fgod ?? The music is from a small radio over on the left. It's not moving around !! I agree that sounds from the front and back never sound much different, and only very sensitive ears can detect that difference. Same with REAL sounds. Our ears evolved to warn us of lions attacking from the side... an ear at the back would have been extremely useful :)

  • @gbj222 Ah right. Maybe it was too close (And loud?) too tell.

I think the brain requires some other stimulus (to use a complex word) to detect whether the sounds are coming from behind or in front. A visual link or maybe the feeling of the vibrations even.

  • Great ! Seems the Binaural effect is working well , LOL

  • this creepy old man is to close to my damn ears.

  • Thank you for your video and efforts in promoting Binaural Audio.

For more information on this subject please search You Tube using the word: ImmersAV.

There you will find many examples of Binaural audio combined with HD Video.

I call the process ImmersAV Technology. Bob Schulein-October 3, 2010

  • With this type of recording ,all you need to play back without headphones would be 2 pairs of Loudspeakers 2 in stereo an the rear 2 in ambisonic this is where you connect the +L and +R to the Amp and -L/-R together across the rear speakers when balanced , and fed with a Mono signal you get a Phantom Centre , speaker fed with a stereo signal the voltage and phase differences give a 3D surround more open and faster than Dolby's Pro logic ,perfect for these recordings

  • I agree with this video.

  • Hello! The audio is great! Many thanks for your work!

    Hi to all!

Is anybody wanted to do a 3d-stereo video with a binaural sound together? For example, a HD stereoscopic musical clip with a binaural sound track. Let me know!

  • When I get more money I'm going to record my songs like this

  • damn... at 0:22 i turned around to look what is on the left hand side behind me ..! great!

  • I want some binaural horror. In movie or game doesn't matter, it would just be a blast to experience. Especially when combined with the new 3d technologies we have as well!

  • OK....but if I wanted really decent quality binaural microphones , it would cost over £1000 ! Maybe one day...

  • @gbj222 nah i just use a pair of blue bottle mics...and keep it all tube too.

  • @gbj222 you can get a good quality one for £250

  • @1993gandy Is that for a stereo pair? And from which company ? Thanks...

  • @gbj222 yes its stereo Chris Pirrilo uses its called AT2020 by Audio Technica and the prices have dropped quite a lot since its release 4 months ago htfr ( . )com / more ( - ) info / MR271416

for the link just get rid of the spaces and the ( )

  • @1993gandy Thanks... but that site says nothing about binaural, or even stereo!!! That mic might be stereo, but it is not designed for binaural, where you need two small mics separated like our ears are, preferably with a lump of stuff between. Like a head :)

  • Eh...it's good for video games where you can "hear" the monsters sneaking up behind you and such. Other than that, I'm not terribly impressed.

  • I don't know who knows it, but there is an upcoming PC game called "Amnesia - The dark descent" (If you haven't heard of it, search for it) Imagine that with binaural sounds and a stereo headphone! Man I'd get a heart attack

  • drugs for ears! ! bring it!

  • @ihatehavingausername That's why many dummy heads have molded auricles (outer ears). Since they aren't symmetrical front and back you can tell whether a sound is in front or behind without moving the head.

  • binaural is F good!

  • EVERY live album should be recorded using binaural

  • Videogames should use this. I use a headset all the time.

  • Video games need this.

  • @TevitaHopoate All you need is a sound card that does Dolby Headphone, like the ASUS Xonar line. With my Xonar DX, I can easily tell the exact location enemy movement is coming from with an ordinary pair of headphones.

  • @TevitaHopoate Many video games have this, if you turn it up and pay attention with headphones on :D

  • @TevitaHopoate It already does, I play counter strike and in matches you need your headphones to listen where your opposition is coming from behind walls etc..binaural I think is 3d 'recorded' sound.

  • I swear to god binaural recordings scare the shit out of me but still they're so fucking awesome.

  • How about recording a drum set? Just two mics Left and right? have anyone else experimented with that other than Pearl Jam?

  • LOL ! Yes... Far too much technobabble !!

And HiFi shops want to fill your room with loudspeakers; it's far more profitable than one pair of headphones.

  • binaural recordings are the way to go, and NOT people saying "my 12.1 logitech X3054905 dolby certified surround system 5000 watt pwnz you all XDD lol!!!111oneone"

    ^^

  • This is awesome! We have the same effect in dolby digital theatres.

  • Yes, but in reality, people and sounds are not always on either side of you or behind but sometimes IN FRONT of you. I haven't heard One binaural recording on youTube where this is possible.

  • You have to close your eyes while listening to this recordings. Otherwise, you will never hear full 3D sound, because your brain knows, that there is nothing in front of you.

  • stereo is in 3d, its just the playback is out of balance, I used to have a 2 speaker stereo system that could playback the sound in 3d, When we attempt to playback sound in stereo on speakers, the sound waves when they arrive are simply wrongly related due to different source position and interference. The very things that destroy the sound can be used as an advantage with manipulation to equalize different frequencys and fix the crosstalk interference. This on speakers is superior if set up.

  • my mom was in my room talking to me 4 like 2 minutes and i didnt know she was there

  • On Audio Quality in this upload:

Don't you just HATE compression artifacts ?

It's really a shame. This one would have been really good, otherwise.

Thanks for your upload, my Audio-Friend ! :)

  • binaural recording ROCKSSSSSSSSSSS

  • Virtual Barbershop is goood

along with another 3d sounds video I heard (starts with the lighting and shaking matches sound)

  • How about binaural horror films?

  • They would be absolutely horrific LOL !!!

  • @gbj222 Stephen King's The mist had a great audio book recorded Binaurally. It was frightening.

  • @LinusPete really ? do you happen to know where you can get that ?

  • @TimpBizkit I'm with you!! that'd be awesome!!

  • @TimpBizkit Hes behind you bitch, no hes behind you!

  • @TimpBizkit the fuck with horror! i want Binaural porno's!

  • @TimpBizkit Oh Daaamn! I would crap my pants

  • i dont like how it sounds like its always behind you

  • I find it sounds mostly in front or at the side.

But It does depend on the headphones used. I do find big differences between headphones, the balance of treble/bass etc.

  • @"TheDigitalguyy"

    No it don't.

  • i feel this too, they always go around the back of your head when changing sides. i think thats because it gets alot quieter as it goes around where as if it went in front the sounds would not get AS quiet but become equal in both ears?

  • Omg once the radio started playing i thiught it was real

  • I agree there should be binaural radio stations, I'd definately listen to them after hearing this.

  • Where can I get a Binaural microphine? Can it be attached to a PC?

  • My JVC system isnt sold any more :(

If you look down the Related Videos (on the right here) you will find other systems like SP-TFB-2.

Or try Googling "Binaural microphone"..... though some cost over £1000.... LOL

Can plug in to a PC if it has a stereo sound input. Good luck.

  • You can make your own =^_^=

Obviously not super high quality... But its still possible

  • Could you recommend where I can record audio embedded binaural beats (into existing recording) in San Francisco?

  • Binaural "beats" are quite a different thing !!

You'll find other sites to help you :)

  • Greetings! Thank you very much for the video. I assume this is you narrating? It's a great piece of work. I just learned about binaural recordings last week. The effects that it produces are amazing, I'm fascinated.

Best wishes from Rio de Janeiro

  • Yes - my own recording.

    Glad you enjoyed it :):)

  • Very nice explanations!

Hope one day you will explain holophonic :)

  • Nobody really understands 'holophonic stereo' - cos they won't properly describe it; it's kind of trade secret, LOL !!!

  • I know wery well holophonic stereo recording even improved for listening with ordinary speakers. I will put the video your video responses place. You are right, I don't want to dercribe all details. Because I want to use it for trading after 35 year in audio electronics experience. Also you are right, everybody concentrating unnecessary points of holophonic audio secrets even if acoustics sciencist!

  • I will try to explain how you can understand which is holophonic or binaural;

if you make a line with matches (or smilar things) in front of the artificial head, if you perceive linear line is holophonic. If it becomes bent to the back of left and right sound area is binaural.

    Best wishes...

  • To clarify... the JVC system is headphones combined with plastic "ears" with built-in microphones.

  • Greetings Fencore !! I'm glad you enjoyed it and can see the enormous potential.

I first discovered Binaural recording at Christmas 1979... when a guy was recording carol singing out of doors at Keswick (Cumbria) with a JVC system. He amazed me with it...and I bought one as soon as I saw one in a shop !!!

  • excellent video!

I'm an acoustical engineer student doing my thesis work, and this is a great way to expand the knowledge of technology available today and that isn't used as much as it could be. it certainly gives great results. thank you for upload this

  • very cool..

  • Great! Very cool.

  • Glad you liked it ! Let's have some further comments from visitors :) My next video will be much better , and based on FEEDBACK from people..... Also, do people AGREE that radio and TV should have more programs in BINAURAL ? maybe a dedicated channel for binaural dramas etc ?

  • I agree that binaural sound is great an could be used in many ways...adrama recorded like this... great idea.

  • Hey great! I like the commentary to. It is amazing how quickly things change and how easily each successive generation takes these changes for granted.
