Amazing song and performance. Such an inspiration. The end message is just wrong. Who are you to tell people they cannot succeed in music (or anything else). Anyone with passion and determination can do what they dream of doing. And this mostly means putting in more work and exercise than any school. That's how you become "really good".
wow, its comments like that, that leave kids wondering what to do when they get out of high school. Artists of all sorts are their own worst critics, if you tell them they cant succeed then they'll probably believe you, and become something like a bartender or bus driver, not saying that those are bad jobs, but it would just be better if being a musician was looked upon like someone being a lawyer or a doctor, or an engineer, just remember that u have to be really good to succeed at anything.
This guy is pretty good among eric clapton, bb king, and the others in the crossroads guitar festival. My dad and I got to see him live and he was GOOOD!
also the same guy who is playing the piano with robert cray he was there too.
ps to the people who don't like this music just keep it to yourself because we don't want to hear it. Ok
thats a pretty discouraging note at the end. this person knows nothing about music really. Talent is only one of the many traits a musician is supposed to have retard.
@Karius7 A person can be whoever he wants and it doesn't matter if he wants to be a scientist or a musician or both
aslong as he really wants it, you don't have to stay in school aslong as you don't want to learn, cause if you don't want to learn you won't learn anything.
But the comment at the end of this vid needs to go. First off, you DON'T have to be really good to make it in music. Why do you think people like Britney Spears have a music career?
Seriously? Focus on school? So basically what you're telling people is that they should set themselves up to fail by not believing in themselves. That's the kind of mentality that causes people to end up miserable because they chose a path that wasn't in their heart. Shame on you.
This was his best line up (imho)...that drummer...always amazing...I sure hope he got the credit he deserved...what a stunning performance by all...too cool is right....I believe I read that they had done over 1000 gigs together. I've been lucky enough to have seen Robert many times going back to the early 80s ( but not for some years now)...he never disappoints..not once...full on 100% passion every song...thanks for posting ..pure pleasure..Yowzer!
Ooops that was a quick guitar change at the end. But then again it´s one of the coolest guitarist in the world right... Keep him on stage and dont let Vai up...
Only the select few can reach down deep within themselves, and pour pure emotion and energy as Robert does in this song, specifically from 2:04 to 3:00
Let's hope those shirtless hillbillies had some taste in good music, or at least gained some before they left the show!... after all, they were there ~ hah...
:-) Yes, that drummer is excellent... right alongside Cray's whole crew.
so what. It is a dvd about a festival. He didn't switch guitar during the song. Have you watched the whole dvd? Regardless, it has opened the door for me to realise how great Robert Cray is. I love his music.
my musical taste has evolved over the years, but the blues is the foundation of my love for music and the guitar. performances like this one will always be remembered as the catalyst to my obsession over music.
i just have to say.. that was kinda a dbag comment at the end of the vid, always follow your dreams and pour your heart and soul into music like robert cray displayed in this song. when you put all your emotion and soul into music this is the result.
Lord have mercy....Robert Cray is very underrated in the blues world. The extremely freeform style is not easy to re create period, just like Buddy. To everyone who says females dont get blues. Have you ever compared the "great" male blues players to the number of female? I cant even really think of any?
yeah .. it s about people doing what they like .. people should go to school .. IF THEY WANT TO ... there is nothing in this world that sez' : school is the way to go ...
i tell you 1 thing and i'm not from the u.s. ... school is good if you want to have something for sure in the modern society .. but when surviving beats the things you like .. you are one communist little shit(if you get my drift) .. in real life .. you must combine school with what you like and thinking for yourself !!!
by far my favorite version of this song. that is a true testimonial to music. to be able to play a song live and be better than the recorded track, it's a beautiful thing.
During the filming of Animal House, Bob was playing at Good Times in Eugene, Oregon when John Belushi spotted him and got him a cameo as the bass player at the infamous, "You mind if we dance wich yo dates" club as part of Otis Day and the Knights. Bob used to play in Eugene all the time when I was a kid and to this day I have never seen him perform live. Some day!
Like Cray, I too first wanted to be an architect. I instead went to school for music....all these years later I'm a global business manager wishing I would have been better at music...or an architect....either way, I love to listen to Cray!

This is absolutely fantastic, he can really bring magic from his soul, through his Guitar and voice, into every one of us. I also like how the Strat changes from three tone sunburst to blue in the blink of an eye! (6:06)

By the way. Thanks for the note at the end of the video. It's a great point and even really good musicians don't make it. You need to know someone and just circumstance. Sometimes it just takes being in the right place at the right time. And, we can't all be in the right place at the right time.
@chelpa2 I'm a clapton fan too, i seen Robert open for Eric as well, and what a show that was!! Eric is a a fan and they're also friends I don't think you need to pick a favorite, lets just choose to love them all.

@ish96885 It is somthing in the paint on it. Kinda like pearl flake on a car. I saw his signature strat at gutar center a while back. It was nice has a great sound, no tremello and some awsome sustain. Bad side is the price tag. Not cheap. It looks like it changes color in different light.
This whole Crossroads concert is amazing. But Robert Cray's performance is the one that sticks out the most for me. I remember watching this at a buddy's when he got the DVD. He goes, "are you tearing up?".... I said no, it's just my allergies. LOL
COOL VIDEO,BUT DONT LIKE THE COMMENT AT THE END TELLING KIDS TO STAY IN SCHOOL,AND THAT MOST MUSICIANS DONT MAKE IT.
I MEAN OK,CONCENTRATE ON STUDYS BUT DONT LET THAT LAST COMMENT DISCOURAGE YOU FROM HAVING A GO KIDS.ANYBODY CAN ACHIEVE ANYTHING IF THEY PUT THEY'RE MINDS TO IT,AND MUSIC IS WONDERFULL,SO GET YOUR SELF A GUITAR,LEARN A FEW CHORDS,GET A PLACE TO JAM WITH SOME FRIENDS AND STAR MAKING SOME NOISE,ITS GREAT FUN AND WILL QUADRUPLE YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING A GIRLFRIEND STRAIGHT AWAY ROCK!
@beadyeyes12 unrealistic...really, It would be nice if we could all make it...but it isn't going to happen ... an example would be if your a shortstop in baseball...your chance to make it to being the top 50 in this field in the world is incredibly difficult. You see we all cannot be stars...only a limited amout of room on the stage. I've known so many musicians who tried and now are broke with multiple divorces and kid who hate them for not being there for them. Life is all about choices!!!
I saw Robert play at Pistoia two days ago. My mind is still blown. This song is so powerful live, one's heart can't help but beat in time with the band...

LOL

Sometimes it's like Robert Cray wish he had more technique than he does.

@g0ttsche Yah, I wish I had 1/16th of Robert's technique. Post a video of your guitar skills and let's see.

This comment is even worse than the last scene of "The Sure Thing"...."she was not my type"...hahahah
