I think the director (or whoever) is basing this scene from the video game's "uso da!" scene, not the anime's. In the game, lightning flashes, the lighting changes, and words appear next to Rena's head when she says "Uso da!". Of course, using this in a game makes it creeper, using it in a movie....not so much. I guess the director didn't see that. :/

@MegaBradley111 They already adapted all the main arcs into two seasons AND adapted all the fandisc stories into an OVA. There's no more original material they can adapt, except perhaps the stories they created for the DS games, but the main Higurashi story is over and done. They already screwed it up by doing Higurashi Kira (which is basically around 4-5 fanservice episodes).

it kind of sucks how downgraded this scene was. although it seemed similar to the how it is in the game as oppose to the anime (which was more exageratted). so in a sense its not all that screwed up its just the movie version of the True original Uso da scene. this movie was still rather a good adaption of the series its based on.
