There are rules for distances from airports. I think its 25klms off the top of my head. To fly you need to be licenced by the HGFA in Australia & have paid your annual fees which includes insurance. Each launch site generally has a contact for the local club and point of contact for information about the characteristics of the area.

What's the ruling on paragliding? Do you need local permission first, or is it only a certain distance away from an airport?
