@whiteraider good question and here's the answer: in rural Africa many people survive by farming. The land is passed down from generation to generation and is often the only thing they own. They can't actually sell it as there is no paperwork, but it is their home and their land. If they move they leave everything including their way of surviving.

ok melissa, i don't want to be rude n stuff but, if they have to walk miles to a well ... why don't they just go live near the well ...
and about the wells, even in the deserts theres water you just got to dig.
