I seriously doubt the Viper is better than the GT3 RS. A tiny german flat 6 giving an enormous fight VS a huge american V10 and the Viper could only pass the Porsche in the straight??? The only explanation why the Viper couldn't pass the GT3 is because the Porsche had a German driver!
Look at that long hood......just amazing. Mostly when a Viper drives so close to tiny cars they are sucked into its massive air intake, chewed up by its huge motor & spit out via fat exhaust pipes. No doubt Porche is faster and more practical. Driving a Viper feels like taking off in a big, loud boeing 747 at every stop light and you can't beat Viper's long hood and fat ass.
@afordable500hpZO6vet yeah sure, because we all know u have flown a boeing, ur just a mad vette fanboy trolling because viper beat the vette on nurburging
@NWA90s I guess more than 400 people can take off in a boeing & we all know you who have driven a viper on Nurburgring is the first one to grab the vomit bag. BTW its Nurburgring & I know that a viper is faster than a vette.
@afordable500hpZO6vet taking off in a boeing doesnt mean u understand how it feels to fly it. Your logic sucks. Even the germans use the viper, thats how good it is and th viper has beaten the german cars on their home track. Now go and watch videos of ur vette
@NWA90s why do u keep telling me that a viper is better? i already know that. I never talked about flying a boeing, it is u who doesn't understand. read & understand the comments before responding
over. third the viper broke less that porsche and pulled out if corners faster it is also.apparent the viper was the overall better car faster better handling if it was geared for a longer topend it would have topped the porsche in every aspect of this race
@fujir500 i respect ur view snd in some points u were right the straight porsche caughtcand passed viper but it had nothing to do with power that is pure gearing viper was geared for a harder pull faster the porsche had a longer gear its obv thats why the viper was faster in short burst. second the viper was far supieor in handleing had the spot several times and backed out because porsche had a very good defence race that was his only way to beat the viper if the viper got out in front it was
It is so very clear that the Viper was quicker than the Porsche, but had to always for some reason give way to the Porsche during the corners where the Viper already had the inside line and its front fender at the A-pillar of the Porsche. Maybe 2 friends having a quick drive with the Porsche pre-arranged to lead?
A final word on large displacement engines. Builders of these types of engines realize these flaws and have limits in their works of progress. The only option available to enthusiasts alike is forced induction in the form of superchargers or turbocharging. Guaranteed truth. It's sort of a never ending paradox of "Well it got heavier, so a larger engine will do" Research will show that every single high output engine with large displacement was possible because of forced induction.
@FujiR500 This old American technology is outdated. And in my opinion never was number 1. One wonders why if the flaws are found and recognized, why isn't there a change? Why are the same old techniques applied? Since these questions will remain unanswered and won't be accounted, then perhapse the engineering and technology will remain number______. You fill in the number. Be as nice or critical as you'd like.
With the Porsche just seconds behind bringing the small gap to a close, it passes the Viper and places 10 car lengths or more in between. The Viper's real strength lies in it's ability to accelerate quickly and get out front of the pack, much like in drag racing. The question is, with opponents of high revving lightweight machines, could it keep it's pole position??? The video depicts the truth to that question.
A contributing reason it could ride along with the Porsche and appears to have the advantage. It simply has torque o thank for it's rather quick acceleration. This of course is limited. And it shows on the last straight segment of the race. It shows the Viper drafting closely and then quickly overtake the Porsche. Simultaneosly the Viper's engine is "running out of RPM range", the engine RPM note is constant and car's speed is bleeding to a constant. It's also out of gearing for upshifts.
This is proof that such large displacement is wasteful and un-necessary. If you think of both cars in terms of horspower per liter and power to weight ratios, the Porsche is clearly the winner. Think about this. A 3.8L H-6 with 450HP yields 118.5 HP per liter. A 8.4L V-10 with 600HP yields just 71.5HP per liter. The V-10 is 4.6L larger than the Porsche engine. What does this mean? It means that the Viper isn't using 2.4L of displacement which is wasteful.
@FujiR500 You might wonder why alot of European and Japanese race teams do not have large discplacement engines yet can produce high power outputs. The answer is volumetric efficiency. If the Viper could make 100HP per liter or in the Porsche's case if it could make 118.5HP per litre, then the Viper's output would be 995.4HP. Well...WHY NOT? The rules and regulations of racing is one thing to consider. But the real reasons are in the engine itself. Mainly it's displacement.
@FujiR500 In naturally aspirated form, there is no way you would be able to take complete advantage of the volumetric of this engine. The cylinder heads simply WILL NOT flow enough air into the cylinders. No amount flow benching an porting would help because soon you'd run into casting problems. You'd port your way directly into a water pocket for cooling and have a ruined cylinder head. Even if so, you still could not achieve the much needed flow of air required for volumetric efficiency. WHY?
@FujiR500 You would have to work at achieving engine rotational speeds beyond 8,500 RPM with compression ratios well into the teens. At 8.4 liters, that would be hard to imagine. The engine is simply too large to turn that fast. Other limiting factors which would prevent high RPM on this engine is it's flawed valvetrain. With 2 valves per cylinder limiting air flow, a somewhat heavy pushrod/roller system and a single camshaft located in the block, these limit the RPM range to just 6,000RPM.
@FujiR500 Which brings me back to "Sounds are part of the evidence". During the race, listen to the Viper's engine. Through all parts of the race, it had reached it's RPM range limit of 6,000 RPM. So what kept it speeding up? Gearing and final drives of course. But note the gearing for this car is very short. Note are frequency of shifts. The gearing is adjusted to such that it stays right within it's peak power and torque ranges of 5,600 and 6,000 RPM, hence the very quick revs between shifts.
The weight of cars like these are also the reason as to why they have such large diplacement engines. In stock trim, the Viper SRT-10 weighs 3,460Ibs. which is not very far away from the Viper ACR-X's 3,300 lb dry weight. The Porsche 997 GT3 RS stock weight is 3,031lbs. The 997 GT3 RSR has a dry weight of 2,647lbs..That is quite a difference from an already light-weight sports coupe. And the Porsche produced very close performance without the large displacement or excessive power output.
First I'd like to respond saying that the Porsche in this video is NOT at GT3 RSR Cup car. But rather the GT3 RSR. Factual: Production year range, 2005-2011 code 997. Engine 3.8L H-6 with a power output of 450HP @ 7,900 RPM and 317 lb.ft torque @ 6,750 RPM with a dry weight of 2,647 lbs. The 2011 997 GT3 RS 4.0 actually has the engine block straight from the 997 GT3 RSR CUP car which produces 500HP @ 8,250RPM and 339 lb. ft torque @ 5,750 RPM.
@FujiR500 The main differences between the 997 GT3 RSR and the 997 GT3 RSR CUP is that the CUP car has increased displacement to 4.0 litres with a power output of 500HP, a larger front carbon splitter, and a taller rear wing. This vehicle IS NOT depicted. Viper ACR-X 8.4L V-10 producing 600HP @ 6,000 RPM and 560 lb. ft. Torque @ 5,600 RPM - dry weight of 3,300 Ibs. Yes. it appears that the Viper has the advantage in the race shown. In some ways yes, others no..There's an explanation for this...
@FujiR500 What you are seeing is that the Viper has a torque advantage over the GT3 RSR. Which is why the Viper can ride along behind the Porsche...but with limits. The Viper's torque alone is not quite enough for the Porsche's ultra light weight, nimble handling, and responsive engine. These reasons among others are what make trying to race a Porsche so challenging. Even for cars with big power and big torque. This is clearly shown and the engine sounds are part of the evidence.
@FujiR500 Another reason the Viper was able to stay behind the Porsche is because the driver was using a racing technique called drafting. When using the technique, the following car takes advantage a temporary increase in performance when it "hides" in the wake or slipstream from the leading car. Since the leading car is displacing a large quantity of air out front, the following car doesn't have to use precious HP to muster throught the drag created by the relative wind.
@FujiR500 In turn power output is easier to use now that there is very little wind resistance, thus the ability to quickly catch and pass your opponent. Note the Porsche's ability to brake late and take the ideal apex of the turns. Note the Viper had to sometimes brake early and scrub speed to take early apexes. Overall he kept up because he ustilized the torque to regain the speed he had lost in the turns. The weight of the car is one contributing factor to early braking and apexes.
@600hpviper You're surprised? Both of them are normally aspirated engines. Lets assume they are both 2009 models. The Porsche is a 3.8 liter with 450 HP and 317 ft.lbs of torque versus the Viper at 8.4 liters (more than double the size) with 600 HP and 560 ft.lbs of torque. What an advantage the Viper had, yet it did not walk away. Hmmm, American engineering.
@Christine102938 Where in my post did I say I was surprised. All I said was that the viper was really riding that Porsche. I KNOW why it was riding that Porsche, I don't need you to explain it to me, I'm not a fucking retard.
A good dice except for the blatant blocking by the GT3 driver. A lot of P car drivers seem to do that here. The Viper was clearly the faster car but the GT3 with less weight and maybe drag could stay ahead on short straights. Glad to see the ending.
@Christine102938 yea blocking means you block people, it could be a bugatti vs camry and the camry could win if it blocked the entire way if it had a superb driver
and once the viper got on the straights it blew by the porsche
@Christine102938 What happened? Well I wrote quite a bit a of a technical response as to what was really going on in this race. Feel free to read my analysis of the video. It's kind of long, but without fully explaining ALOT of technical issues it wouldn't provide a clear insight to the big picture.
Both great cars in there own way and great driving by both. that lambo was a real asshole, sort of ruined the race. if not for the lambos inference race might have turned out differently, porsche is my favorite but i must say the viper is the only american car that truly impresses me
@namybot they claim? they got any videos to back up their claim? anyways
viper has won 24 hours spa, 24 hours nurburging, american le man series 1990s and alot more. i didnt have time to look at them all. just look it up at google
@namybot when an american car beat a german in germany ON A GERMAN TRACK then who has the long way to go?
ill take the porsche anyday tho and sell, buy a viper and still have money left.
i dont care who sold more or who made most money. besides, porsche has been in history long before the viper so it is obvious it has more wins, but nevertheless viper is a better car. even the lexus and zr1 has beaten porsche
@namybot lol the gayass bugatti is a overpriced piece of shit only good on straight lines, it is too fucking heavy and it cannot beat viper on nurburging it hasnt. the koenigsegg hasnt too.
all those car you mentioned here are slower then the viper, on the best european track. hell, even the mclaren f1, slr mclaren, lambo is slower.
im not saying americans are better, they might be but i dont care. im simply stating out facts
@namybot what other tracks? and topgear? dont make fucking laugh, if you watch that for anything else then entertainment you need help! besides topgear didnt try the ACR, just the older viper. topgear is more ranting and bitching then facts, its all opinion like how the fat fucker clarkson doesnt like muscle cars. and majority of racers and experts agree that nurburging is the perfect track to find out a cars performance. and yes bugatti is a ugly overpriced shit
@NWA90s Hahaha, your an idiot. The Nurburgring is a great track but one lap on the Ring doesn't determine how Fast a cars is. You would have to take a car all over the world to push it to its limits and you say Clarkson doesn't have a clue LOL.
For example the Corvette Zr1 is faster than a 458 on the ring but out of 13 tracks both cars have raced on the 458 italia still came out on top plus its 0-150-0 times are miles faster.
TopGear is ace, it's good for Cars and Entertainment. Your bias
@namybot listen you dumb piece of shit. topgear is for entertainment and not a place where you get your facts, BECAUSE IT IS ALL BASED ON THE OPINION OF THE 3. jeremey may like a fucking toyota while clarkson may hate it, its all opinion you dumb fucker. bottom line. the viper ascr and ass raped every german car, in germany on a german track and it costs more then 2 times less then them.
@NWA90s LMAO. You say every German car but cars like the gumpert match the Vipers performance on the Nurburgring with 630hp and is the Worlds highest performance street legal car, wait untill Gumpert bring out the 1000hp car they have in mind it will be lapping Nurburgring in Under well under 7min. That doesn't even matter though because the Nurburgring isn't the be all end all lap you think it is. Have you even herd of over-all performance, other cars are faster than the ACR. Deal with it.
@NWA90s LMAO, you say that the Viper can destroy every German car on every German track but yet if you scroll to the top of the page and watch the vid, it's the viper getting its arse handed to its self.
@namybot look at the very end dumbass, the viper clearly overtook it. and if you watch the video you would see the viper had at least 10 opportunities to overtake the porsche, it it was blocked by the other cars front of it. you dont even know what u are talking about
@NWA90s the race finish long before the end of the vid just after Hatzenbach and just before Flugplatz.
If you knew what i was talking about you would know that the Porsche and the Viper would of let of at this point, the viper past at this point because he just felt like it not because he took him LMAO.
End of the day the viper was behind the whole race and couldn't take him and the Porsche gave him a run worth watching.
Porsche won Le Mans 16x and have 38,000 wins for a reason.
@namybot do you know how old the porsche manufacturer is? it is maybe 60 years older that is why it has won more. i dont care if it took the viper long, in the end the viper managed to overtake it. its the end that matters
@NWA90s Yeah Porsche have been around since 1931, Ford have been around since 1909 thats 22years beford Porsche and Ford doesn't even scratch the milestones hit by Porsche. Dodge has been around since 1914 thats 17years before porsche and you were saying what? Ferrari started raceing in 1929 and started making cars for the road in 1947 Ferrari was born around the same times as nearly all american motor company and nearly triples all your nations wins together.
@namybot when i know that dodge viper ACR is faster then any porsche, why would i cry? please enlighten me.
the porsche was racing since it was made, while dodge was a drag racer in the beginning. your problem is that you are stuck in the past like a depressed person. The reign of the Porsche ended when it got grounded on home ground
i cant give a fuck about those drag races. drag races are for pussies. all you need is good reaction times, while on you track there is much more you need to worry about, and its on the track the viper is made for
@namybot how is the porsche overall faster you dumbass. when the viper has a higher top speed and is better at tracks?the porsche will only beat the viper early in a drag race, but if the road is longer the viper will catch up. porsche gt2 is much lighter therefor it will take the lead at the beginning
let me give you a lecture because you are brain dead and have little knowledge about this shit.
A race cars ability is based on many abilities and not on what it does in straight road.
@NWA90s Hahaha, you think i don't know shit about racing.
My life is based on racing nothing matters to me as long as it has Four or two wheels with a engine and goes like stink i'm all over it. I get warm every time i see GTRs and SL63 AMG driving down my street
I would take days of school to watch Formula 1 highlights on BBC and watch V8 Supercars till early hours in the morning.
I would give you a lecture but i'm not that small minded to think you know nothing about cars, your just bias.
@NWA90s Your the one that thinks a cars a ability to drag has no relation to the cars over-all performance.
That's why you think viper make faster cars than Porsche because you only believe what you want to hear not the truth. That's called bias, exactly what you do!
Why do you think companies perform 0-60 and 0-100-0 0-150-0 (mph) tests you dumb bastard. I will tell you why because its called an OVER-ALL performance you fucking thick twat, not just how it does on the skid-pad
@namybot viper is the fastest street legal/production car on the most popular/famous track called nurburging. and as seen in this video, the viper beat the porsche at the very end. Problem?
@NWA90s I see your profile picture is a Viper, mine is a Ferrari Scudetto but yet i still stick up for Porsche.
Your heart is close to viper so if you knew it was not as good as you think it is or a other car is better you would be the one in denial. Which is the case Porsche handing Viper arse.
Go away i don't like you, your wasting my time. Your an idiot and hasn't got a clue.
I have better people to confer with so stop annoying me and GO AWAY.
@namybot im stating out facts. nurburging is the best track in europe to check a cars performance. it is over 12 miles, with alot of corners, tight turn and straight roads.
and its on that track the viper remains the best of the best. As also proved in this video, the viper indeed is a car built for the track. it is not over engineered, not overpriced and still is among the best race cars in the world. Outclassing the audi, porsche, merc, ferrari, lamborghini.
@NWA90s Out classing "audi, porsche, merc, ferrari, lamborghini" LMAO Stop it please!!!!!
Audi have won Le mans 10x in the past eleven years. Mercedes(engine) got the second best Formula 1 team at this point and Bmw came st at 24hours Nurburgring and Abu Dhabi. Ferrari well Ferrari thats all that need to be said, The the best Racing team on the face of the earth. Porsche currently hold pole at Le Mans with 16 win 38,000 titles. Lamborghini are just cool.
@NWA90s I don't like you calling me names over the internet because you fine in your mums basement on her laptop its safe there. Call me names to my face that's a different story.
Now back to your comment, how does viper out-class Merc n Audi. Merc make saloons same for Audi that will always drive better than cars made by Dodge. I would rather be sat in a E63 AMG or RS6 travelling across Europe than a Viper.
@namybot because the viper acr has better grip, handling and top speed and it is twice as cheap. the ferrari enzo and lambo rev or murcielago have more HP but are still slower at corners. and the audi? well it does not have enoiugh power. otherwise its a fine car. and the mercs? please man they are way to heavy. And porsche, i dont see anything wrong with it, but the acr is overall a better performer
@NWA90s You are stupid, Lamborghini make the Aventardo with a top-speed of 220mph plus, Ferrari will be making new Enzo next Year and your Forgetting that the old Enzo was made in 2002 which was the fastest car in the world at the time.
Audi and Mercs being too heavy and underpowered is stupid. These are high-end luxury cars not designed for racing but still have performance to do more than satisfy your daily need for speed and are 10x more comfortable than a viper.
@namybot viper is designd to be comfy, it is a car designed with RACING in mind. the aventardo is heavy car and will not do good at corners at all.
and i never said the audi was heavy stupid. Viper is a racing car that is the fasters sreet legal/production car at best european track. Problem? Yes or No? or are you still in denial mode
@NWA90s I Have no problem with the Viper being the fastest car on the Nurburgring, I respect that. Just because it is fastest car on Nurburgring doesn't mean its the fastest car in the world, other cars will be stronger on other tracks and that's why Comparisons are not made on one single track.
BTW you forgetting basic Racing physics a car has to be very heavy to take corners fast, that is why a 500kg F1 car weights 1500-2000kg when turning.
@namybot: I gotta admit both you and "NWA90s" make valid points. But I do agree with you that a GT2 would destroy it in a drag race. Vipers really don't have great top end acceleration. (I know that from my own personal simulation test in a simulator) Pass 150mph they struggle. But of course going around a track in and out of corners, its a whole different story.
@V8Supercar1 Me personally i don't think "NWA90s" made a single valid point. He thinks like many other Americans that the Nurburgring is the only thing in the world that matters. If that was the case why isn't every single race event in the world taken place at Nurburg? It makes no sense!!!
And he called the Bugatti a pile of shit!!!!! This is a car that has better living conditions than a 7 star hotel and brings the speed of 1000hp.
@namybot: I see. the thing is though. The nurburgring is the most demanding track their is. the Problem I have with considering "other tracks" is that you don't know who drove the lap, and their is no video proof of how well the car was driven. To me, the Nurburgring and the Top Gear test track lap times should be respected the most because they are always driven by a pro driver.
@V8Supercar1 You gotta look at this though. These cars that we are talking about are "ROAD CARS" not "RACING CARS" If I was buying a high-end car I couldn't give a shit what times it has set on what tracks! I want it to look attractive, I want to feel the way it drives, I want to see quality build, I want to see care taken and expensive materials used on the interior and exterior mostly i want the cars to be a dream.
Americans provide speed, Europe provide both speed and quality but at a price
@namybot: Thats fine for you to think that way. But not everyone does. Some people like to put the speed of their dream supercar to the price tag. Some people value name recognition more. Some value looks and interior. Me personally? I've got respect for any supercar as long as I don't feel its over priced. No I don't think Ferraris, Lambos, and Porsche are over priced cars.
@V8Supercar1 Let me put you in this situation. You were at a dealership buying a Super car and you were stuck between the choice of three or Four. Would you seriously let the deciding factor be a lap time it set on some track you prolly never go to? That's why I hate people that say this car is better because of its "Nurburgring" time when at the end of the day who's going give a shit when your flying down Autobahn in a Koenigsegg at 260mph?
I think there's more to cars than the Nurburgring.
@namybot: It all depends on what I'm buying that car for. Am I buying it to race against others at the track, am I buying it to show how much money I have, am I buying it to drive cross country. It would depend on what my intentions are. No the Nurburgring isn't everything, but it does showcase the all around performance aspect of a car. I wouldn't buy a car just because of a nurburgring number, because not every car thats been on the nurburgring has been driven to its best.
@V8Supercar1 Even if you were to race it at the track i still wouldn't take that much notice of Nurburgring times.
458 is slower by about 10sec on Nurburgring than ZR1 but over-all on 14 tracks the 458 laps out faster! So if you take notice of the ring you would be mislead to thinking the ZR1 is Faster but its not! You see what i mean?
I would rather drive across Europe or America with Friends in Supercar because you can still put your foot down in the middle of nowhere and have tonnes of fun.
@namybot: Like I said before. When you look at lap times of those other tracks, you have no idea of what happened. You don't even know if the cars were driven properly or even the conditions. But with the Nurburgring and the Top Gear test track, if they have a video of it, at-least you know.
@V8Supercar1 Yeah, i can totally see your point. I don't disagree with it. I Guess I'm just getting bored of all the Nurburgring "mi-lark". Everytime a new Super car come out everybody make a big deal out of the lap it set on Nurburgring.
I can remember the days when the cars themselves were actually talked about. The way they made you feel when you sat in them and the way the car made you feel as you drove down the road and the emotion each car carried.
@namybot: Honestly, I'd be willing to pay money to push any sports car around the Nurburgring. I wouldn't even care what car it was. lol I really don't know anything about the Italian alps though. But put if you put me behind the wheel of a 599 GTB F1, a Saleen S7 or an Ultimate Aero and I'd probably end up killing myself on that long back straight for not judging when I should let off the pedal and start braking. lol
@namybot Yes the run from Cortina d'Ampezzo to Canazei over Passo Falzarego and Pordoi is tough to beat...or something a bit narrower...Passo Duran and Giau.
@Christine102938 Yeah, I really love that road that runs from Davos to stelvio. It really would be a dream just to be with a couple of mates having friend competition in some 1950s or 60s Ferrari.
That really was the sweat age for Le Mans cars like the Ferrari 250s, DBR1, Jag D-type. Mazeratti 300.
@namybot besides the viper in this video is basically a 8 cylinder. if you listen to the engines sound you will know it has had some restrictions, thats why at the near end the porsche manages to overtake the viper. without those race regulations the viper would have kept on going and may have reached over 190mph
@iNick90 Actually looked like the Viper was, but he had to slow down because of the guy in his lane. Honestly the people on the track this particular day (not the porsche or the viper driver) looked to be douches. Mostly the Lambo. Had the viper now overtaken him out of the turn, i have a strong feeling he would have never have let him pass. What i wouldnt have given to hear the poor Lambo drivers whining that a wieney viper had passed his poor Lamb. Great driving by both drivers though.
I wish F1 would have on-board views like this all the time. You could choose your driver from a menu and watch the on-board cameras the whole race. I find this view more entertaining then watching other cars i don't really car about.
I wish F1 would have onboard views like this all the time. You could choose your driver from a menu and watch the onboard cameras the whole race. I find this view more entertaining then watching other cars i dont really car about.
@yourfaceislameful ricers? like the bmws, the track model cars, those? Lol don't be fooled by the Porsche and viper's racing, those cars are by no means slow.
Leave it to the Internet to finally put out some great racing video's. You want find such great stuff on the Boob Tube, unless you have a host ruining the video with idiotic comments.
Lol porsche and viper fans stop dizzing. Both are awesome cars. At least I have to tell you that the Frikadelli Porsche had more sucess ;) But the Viper got also much popularity ;)
Great showing from both cars. As far as those other "shitty" cars, yeah it would be nice to watch these two go head to head but I've been one of those slower cars. It's what you deal with on open track days. Besides watching these guys blow by everything kinda puts their capabilities into perspective.
Viper would have won if not for the bad breaks from the other cars. Fucking Lambo "shitty" Gallardo trying to hang with them, but ends up just being in the way of the Viper.
@HomeWreckerA1 what do you mean stupid? they were all in a race and all have the right to use the track. Im sure they tried to do the best they could of to get out of the way of the faster class cars!
Forget about all the technical jargon just enjoy what a race !

over. third the viper broke less that porsche and pulled out if corners faster it is also.apparent the viper was the overall better car faster better handling if it was geared for a longer topend it would have topped the porsche in every aspect of this race
dakotaslade93 3 weeks ago
@fujir500 i respect ur view snd in some points u were right the straight porsche caughtcand passed viper but it had nothing to do with power that is pure gearing viper was geared for a harder pull faster the porsche had a longer gear its obv thats why the viper was faster in short burst. second the viper was far supieor in handleing had the spot several times and backed out because porsche had a very good defence race that was his only way to beat the viper if the viper got out in front it was
dakotaslade93 3 weeks ago
Viper is faster. Very clean defense from the GT3.
verboisj 3 weeks ago
The Viper is just practicing chase down, drafting and different ways to over take the lead car, it's not a race.
Nrodful 4 weeks ago

FujiR500 1 month ago
@FujiR500 This old American technology is outdated. And in my opinion never was number 1. One wonders why if the flaws are found and recognized, why isn't there a change? Why are the same old techniques applied? Since these questions will remain unanswered and won't be accounted, then perhapse the engineering and technology will remain number______. You fill in the number. Be as nice or critical as you'd like.
FujiR500 1 month ago
With the Porsche just seconds behind bringing the small gap to a close, it passes the Viper and places 10 car lengths or more in between. The Viper's real strength lies in it's ability to accelerate quickly and get out front of the pack, much like in drag racing. The question is, with opponents of high revving lightweight machines, could it keep it's pole position??? The video depicts the truth to that question.
FujiR500 1 month ago
A contributing reason it could ride along with the Porsche and appears to have the advantage. It simply has torque o thank for it's rather quick acceleration. This of course is limited. And it shows on the last straight segment of the race. It shows the Viper drafting closely and then quickly overtake the Porsche. Simultaneosly the Viper's engine is "running out of RPM range", the engine RPM note is constant and car's speed is bleeding to a constant. It's also out of gearing for upshifts.
FujiR500 1 month ago
This is proof that such large displacement is wasteful and un-necessary. If you think of both cars in terms of horspower per liter and power to weight ratios, the Porsche is clearly the winner. Think about this. A 3.8L H-6 with 450HP yields 118.5 HP per liter. A 8.4L V-10 with 600HP yields just 71.5HP per liter. The V-10 is 4.6L larger than the Porsche engine. What does this mean? It means that the Viper isn't using 2.4L of displacement which is wasteful.
FujiR500 1 month ago
@FujiR500 You might wonder why alot of European and Japanese race teams do not have large discplacement engines yet can produce high power outputs. The answer is volumetric efficiency. If the Viper could make 100HP per liter or in the Porsche's case if it could make 118.5HP per litre, then the Viper's output would be 995.4HP. Well...WHY NOT? The rules and regulations of racing is one thing to consider. But the real reasons are in the engine itself. Mainly it's displacement.
FujiR500 1 month ago
@FujiR500 In naturally aspirated form, there is no way you would be able to take complete advantage of the volumetric of this engine. The cylinder heads simply WILL NOT flow enough air into the cylinders. No amount flow benching an porting would help because soon you'd run into casting problems. You'd port your way directly into a water pocket for cooling and have a ruined cylinder head. Even if so, you still could not achieve the much needed flow of air required for volumetric efficiency. WHY?
FujiR500 1 month ago
@FujiR500 You would have to work at achieving engine rotational speeds beyond 8,500 RPM with compression ratios well into the teens. At 8.4 liters, that would be hard to imagine. The engine is simply too large to turn that fast. Other limiting factors which would prevent high RPM on this engine is it's flawed valvetrain. With 2 valves per cylinder limiting air flow, a somewhat heavy pushrod/roller system and a single camshaft located in the block, these limit the RPM range to just 6,000RPM.
FujiR500 1 month ago
@FujiR500 Which brings me back to "Sounds are part of the evidence". During the race, listen to the Viper's engine. Through all parts of the race, it had reached it's RPM range limit of 6,000 RPM. So what kept it speeding up? Gearing and final drives of course. But note the gearing for this car is very short. Note are frequency of shifts. The gearing is adjusted to such that it stays right within it's peak power and torque ranges of 5,600 and 6,000 RPM, hence the very quick revs between shifts.
FujiR500 1 month ago
The weight of cars like these are also the reason as to why they have such large diplacement engines. In stock trim, the Viper SRT-10 weighs 3,460Ibs. which is not very far away from the Viper ACR-X's 3,300 lb dry weight. The Porsche 997 GT3 RS stock weight is 3,031lbs. The 997 GT3 RSR has a dry weight of 2,647lbs..That is quite a difference from an already light-weight sports coupe. And the Porsche produced very close performance without the large displacement or excessive power output.
FujiR500 1 month ago
FujiR500 1 month ago
FujiR500 1 month ago
@FujiR500 What you are seeing is that the Viper has a torque advantage over the GT3 RSR. Which is why the Viper can ride along behind the Porsche...but with limits. The Viper's torque alone is not quite enough for the Porsche's ultra light weight, nimble handling, and responsive engine. These reasons among others are what make trying to race a Porsche so challenging. Even for cars with big power and big torque. This is clearly shown and the engine sounds are part of the evidence.
FujiR500 1 month ago
@FujiR500 Another reason the Viper was able to stay behind the Porsche is because the driver was using a racing technique called drafting. When using the technique, the following car takes advantage a temporary increase in performance when it "hides" in the wake or slipstream from the leading car. Since the leading car is displacing a large quantity of air out front, the following car doesn't have to use precious HP to muster throught the drag created by the relative wind.
FujiR500 1 month ago
@FujiR500 In turn power output is easier to use now that there is very little wind resistance, thus the ability to quickly catch and pass your opponent. Note the Porsche's ability to brake late and take the ideal apex of the turns. Note the Viper had to sometimes brake early and scrub speed to take early apexes. Overall he kept up because he ustilized the torque to regain the speed he had lost in the turns. The weight of the car is one contributing factor to early braking and apexes.

you can tell by how close it gets to the Porsche then has to back off or move away to prevent an accident around corners.

600hpviper 1 month ago
@600hpviper You're surprised? Both of them are normally aspirated engines. Lets assume they are both 2009 models. The Porsche is a 3.8 liter with 450 HP and 317 ft.lbs of torque versus the Viper at 8.4 liters (more than double the size) with 600 HP and 560 ft.lbs of torque. What an advantage the Viper had, yet it did not walk away. Hmmm, American engineering.
Christine102938 1 month ago
@Christine102938 Where in my post did I say I was surprised. All I said was that the viper was really riding that Porsche. I KNOW why it was riding that Porsche, I don't need you to explain it to me, I'm not a fucking retard.
600hpviper 1 month ago
A good dice except for the blatant blocking by the GT3 driver. A lot of P car drivers seem to do that here. The Viper was clearly the faster car but the GT3 with less weight and maybe drag could stay ahead on short straights. Glad to see the ending.
M3333hp 1 month ago
@M3333hp Blocking??? With the HP and torque advantage of the Viper, it should have just whizzed right by. What happened?
Christine102938 1 month ago
@Christine102938 yea blocking means you block people, it could be a bugatti vs camry and the camry could win if it blocked the entire way if it had a superb driver
and once the viper got on the straights it blew by the porsche
charliepioneer 1 month ago
@Christine102938 What happened? Well I wrote quite a bit a of a technical response as to what was really going on in this race. Feel free to read my analysis of the video. I know what im talking about when it comes to motor-sport and let me tell you this.

NWA90s 2 months ago
@NWA90s Hahaha, your an idiot. The Nurburgring is a great track but one lap on the Ring doesn't determine how Fast a cars is. You would have to take a car all over the world to push it to its limits and you say Clarkson doesn't have a clue LOL.
For example the Corvette Zr1 is faster than a 458 on the ring but out of 13 tracks both cars have raced on the 458 italia still came out on top plus its 0-150-0 times are miles faster.
TopGear is ace, it's good for Cars and Entertainment. Your bias
namybot 2 months ago
@namybot listen you dumb piece of shit. topgear is for entertainment and not a place where you get your facts, BECAUSE IT IS ALL BASED ON THE OPINION OF THE 3. jeremey may like a fucking toyota while clarkson may hate it, its all opinion you dumb fucker. bottom line. the viper ascr and ass raped every german car, in germany on a german track and it costs more then 2 times less then them.

That doesn't even matter though because the Nurburgring isn't the be all end all lap you think it is. Have you even herd of over-all performance, other cars are faster than the ACR. Deal with it.

@namybot look at the very end dumbass, the viper clearly overtook it. and if you watch the video you would see the viper had at least 10 opportunities to overtake the porsche, it it was blocked by the other cars front of it. you dont even know what u are talking about

Porsche won Le Mans 16x and have 38,000 wins for a reason.

@namybot when i know that dodge viper ACR is faster then any porsche, why would i cry? please enlighten me.

@NWA90s I see that you seem to say the viper is faster than all porsche on all tracks but you seem to not be able to back it up with figures.

Price is politics, nothing to do with cars. So why do you keep bringing it up?
namybot 2 months ago
@namybot drag race? LOLOLOLOL
i cant give a fuck about those drag races. drag races are for pussies. all you need is good reaction times, while on you track there is much more you need to worry about, and its on the track the viper is made for
NWA90s 2 months ago
@NWA90s Again your all mouth about your you beloved viper but no numbers have yet backed your point.
You said viper is faster than any porshe but yet a porsche GT2 would destroy a viper in a Drag. Were is your logic?
Again the viper would have to be over-all faster than a Porsche to be called the faster car.
The Viper is faster on Nurburgring and some other tracks but the Porsche is all so faster on other tracks and more.
The Porshe is over-all faster that doesn't mean its completely faster
namybot 2 months ago
@namybot how is the porsche overall faster you dumbass. when the viper has a higher top speed and is better at tracks?the porsche will only beat the viper early in a drag race, but if the road is longer the viper will catch up. porsche gt2 is much lighter therefor it will take the lead at the beginning
let me give you a lecture because you are brain dead and have little knowledge about this shit.

Go away i don't like you, your wasting my time. Your an idiot and hasn't got a clue.
I have better people to confer with so stop annoying me and GO AWAY.
namybot 2 months ago
@namybot im stating out facts. nurburging is the best track in europe to check a cars performance. it is over 12 miles, with alot of corners, tight turn and straight roads.
and its on that track the viper remains the best of the best. As also proved in this video, the viper indeed is a car built for the track. it is not over engineered, not overpriced and still is among the best race cars in the world. Outclassing the audi, porsche, merc, ferrari, lamborghini.
NWA90s 2 months ago
@NWA90s Out classing "audi, porsche, merc, ferrari, lamborghini" LMAO Stop it please!!!!!
Audi have won Le mans 10x in the past eleven years. Mercedes(engine) got the second best Formula 1 team at this point and Bmw came st at 24hours Nurburgring and Abu Dhabi. Ferrari well Ferrari thats all that need to be said, The the best Racing team on the face of the earth. Porsche currently hold pole at Le Mans with 16 win 38,000 titles. Lamborghini are just cool.

Now back to your comment, how does viper out-class Merc n Audi. Merc make saloons same for Audi that will always drive better than cars made by Dodge. I would rather be sat in a E63 AMG or RS6 travelling across Europe than a Viper.
Cars built for differnet things
Ferrari and Lamborghini both have made cars that
namybot 2 months ago
@namybot because the viper acr has better grip, handling and top speed and it is twice as cheap. the ferrari enzo and lambo rev or murcielago have more HP but are still slower at corners. and the audi? well it does not have enoiugh power. otherwise its a fine car. and the mercs? please man they are way to heavy. And porsche, i dont see anything wrong with it, but the acr is overall a better performer
NWA90s 2 months ago
@NWA90s You are stupid, Lamborghini make the Aventardo with a top-speed of 220mph plus, Ferrari will be making new Enzo next Year and your Forgetting that the old Enzo was made in 2002 which was the fastest car in the world at the time.
Audi and Mercs being too heavy and underpowered is stupid. These are high-end luxury cars not designed for racing but still have performance to do more than satisfy your daily need for speed and are 10x more comfortable than a viper.
Price is politics.
namybot 2 months ago
@namybot viper is designd to be comfy, it is a car designed with RACING in mind. the aventardo is heavy car and will not do good at corners at all.
and i never said the audi was heavy stupid. Viper is a racing car that is the fasters sreet legal/production car at best european track. Problem? Yes or No? or are you still in denial mode
NWA90s 2 months ago
@NWA90s I Have no problem with the Viper being the fastest car on the Nurburgring, I respect that. Just because it is fastest car on Nurburgring doesn't mean its the fastest car in the world, other cars will be stronger on other tracks and that's why Comparisons are not made on one single track.
BTW you forgetting basic Racing physics a car has to be very heavy to take corners fast, that is why a 500kg F1 car weights 1500-2000kg when turning.
namybot 2 months ago
@namybot and how much do you think the fatass mclaren slr and lambos weight at corners?

namybot 2 months ago
@namybot: I gotta admit both you and "NWA90s" make valid points. But I do agree with you that a GT2 would destroy it in a drag race. Vipers really don't have great top end acceleration. (I know that from my own personal simulation test in a simulator) Pass 150mph they struggle. But of course going around a track in and out of corners, its a whole different story.
V8Supercar1 1 month ago
@V8Supercar1 Me personally i don't think "NWA90s" made a single valid point. He thinks like many other Americans that the Nurburgring is the only thing in the world that matters. If that was the case why isn't every single race event in the world taken place at Nurburg? It makes no sense!!!
And he called the Bugatti a pile of shit!!!!! This is a car that has better living conditions than a 7 star hotel and brings the speed of 1000hp.
namybot 1 month ago
@namybot: I see. the thing is though. The nurburgring is the most demanding track their is. the Problem I have with considering "other tracks" is that you don't know who drove the lap, and their is no video proof of how well the car was driven. To me, the Nurburgring and the Top Gear test track lap times should be respected the most because they are always driven by a pro driver.
V8Supercar1 1 month ago

V8Supercar1 1 month ago
@V8Supercar1 Let me put you in this situation. You were at a dealership buying a Super car and you were stuck between the choice of three or Four. Would you seriously let the deciding factor be a lap time it set on some track you prolly never go to? That's why I hate people that say this car is better because of its "Nurburgring" time when at the end of the day who's going give a shit when your flying down Autobahn in a Koenigsegg at 260mph?
I think there's more to cars than the Nurburgring.
namybot 1 month ago
@namybot: It all depends on what I'm buying that car for. Am I buying it to race against others at the track, am I buying it to show how much money I have, am I buying it to drive cross country. It would depend on what my intentions are. No the Nurburgring isn't everything, but it does showcase the all around performance aspect of a car. I wouldn't buy a car just because of a nurburgring number, because not every car thats been on the nurburgring has been driven to its best.
V8Supercar1 1 month ago
@V8Supercar1 Even if you were to race it at the track i still wouldn't take that much notice of Nurburgring times.
458 is slower by about 10sec on Nurburgring than ZR1 but over-all on 14 tracks the 458 laps out faster! So if you take notice of the ring you would be mislead to thinking the ZR1 is Faster but its not! You see what i mean?
I would rather drive across Europe or America with Friends in Supercar because you can still put your foot down in the middle of nowhere and have tonnes of fun.
namybot 1 month ago
@namybot: Like I said before. When you look at lap times of those other tracks, you have no idea of what happened. You don't even know if the cars were driven properly or even the conditions. But with the Nurburgring and the Top Gear test track, if they have a video of it, at-least you know.
V8Supercar1 1 month ago
@V8Supercar1 Yeah, i can totally see your point. I don't disagree with it. I Guess I'm just getting bored of all the Nurburgring "mi-lark". Everytime a new Super car come out everybody make a big deal out of the lap it set on Nurburgring.
I can remember the days when the cars themselves were actually talked about. The way they made you feel when you sat in them and the way the car made you feel as you drove down the road and the emotion each car carried.
I miss those days

@namybot: lol You and James May must be good friends. Or are you actually James May? lol
V8Supercar1 1 month ago
@V8Supercar1 No I'm not James May but I do strongly agree with his points.
How often do you think people are going to actually take their super cars to Nurburgring?
Yes they will be a few but if you live over-seas your not going to be very boverd.
Me personally I'm all for the driving Experiences.
I would rather be ripping a Enzo around the Italian Alps than the Nurburgring.
Could you say the same?
namybot 1 month ago
@namybot: Honestly, I'd be willing to pay money to push any sports car around the Nurburgring. I wouldn't even care what car it was. lol I really don't know anything about the Italian alps though. But put if you put me behind the wheel of a 599 GTB F1, a Saleen S7 or an Ultimate Aero and I'd probably end up killing myself on that long back straight for not judging when I should let off the pedal and start braking. lol

@V8Supercar1 I would really like to drive some old Ferraris.
250GTO would be a holy moment for me.
namybot 1 month ago
@namybot Absolutely! It has to be at the pinnacle of one of the most desirable cars. One just sold for $16.3 million. I'm short a bit. LOL
Christine102938 1 month ago
@Christine102938 Yeah, i can so connect with that car. I almost cry thinking i will never drive one, seriously i get quite emotional about it.
Both the 1957 250 Testa Rossa, 1962 250 GTO or the 375MM or the 860 Monza or the 330 P4. Oh my God just thinking about it make my heart race.
namybot 1 month ago
@namybot Yes the run from Cortina d'Ampezzo to Canazei over Passo Falzarego and Pordoi is tough to beat...or something a bit narrower...Passo Duran and Giau.
Christine102938 1 month ago
@Christine102938 Yeah, I really love that road that runs from Davos to stelvio. It really would be a dream just to be with a couple of mates having friend competition in some 1950s or 60s Ferrari.
That really was the sweat age for Le Mans cars like the Ferrari 250s, DBR1, Jag D-type. Mazeratti 300.
Dream dream dream, my friend.

@namybot: As for as corvettes, you might not like the fiber glass rear end. But you cannot deny the build quality thats under the hood/bonnet.
V8Supercar1 1 month ago
@namybot besides the viper in this video is basically a 8 cylinder. if you listen to the engines sound you will know it has had some restrictions, thats why at the near end the porsche manages to overtake the viper. without those race regulations the viper would have kept on going and may have reached over 190mph
NWA90s 2 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@NWA90s Yeah on the Nurburgring but you need to look at other tracks the Viper has set times on and other cars.
Some tracks the Viper will be faster and some a Bugatti or a Lambo will be faster.
For example if you look at the TopGear PowerLap the viper is way down on the list and cars like Gumpert and 458, McLaren MP4-12c or dominant.
At the moment Europe still make faster cars over-all but it doesn't mean american cars are slow.
Saying the Bugatti is over priced is stupid its Exclusive.

Interesting I would have thought that the Viper would have taken the GT3 on the long straight at the very end, but the were still neck and neck.

Hahahaha too bad Viper, you cant beat the Porsche in top speed :D.
iNick90 3 months ago
@iNick90 Actually looked like the Viper was, but he had to slow down because of the guy in his lane. Honestly the people on the track this particular day (not the porsche or the viper driver) looked to be douches. Mostly the Lambo. Had the viper now overtaken him out of the turn, i have a strong feeling he would have never have let him pass. What i wouldnt have given to hear the poor Lambo drivers whining that a wieney viper had passed his poor Lamb. Great driving by both drivers though.
Broly3k8 3 months ago
@iNick90 Too bad you're such a fucking douche. The Porsche driver had to box the Viper behind slower cars. The Viper is the better car.

I wish F1 would have on-board views like this all the time. You could choose your driver from a menu and watch the on-board cameras the whole race. I find this view more entertaining then watching other cars i don't really car about.

Leave it to the Internet to finally put out some great racing video's. You want find such great stuff on the Boob Tube, unless you have a host ruining the video with idiotic comments.

Viper clearly faster, but can't get past the driver in the Porsche because he knows his blocking lines.

Great showing from both cars. As far as those other "shitty" cars, yeah it would be nice to watch these two go head to head but I've been one of those slower cars. It's what you deal with on open track days. Besides watching these guys blow by everything kinda puts their capabilities into perspective.
mstngs351 6 months ago
Viper would have won if not for the bad breaks from the other cars. Fucking Lambo "shitty" Gallardo trying to hang with them, but ends up just being in the way of the Viper.
