    such an awesome instroment!

i love the beautiful clothes she's wearing too (:

  • whaouh..!! beautiful really... respect lady GO ON....

  • I really dig this. This is a wonderful piece, it embraces more of an American sound, something a lot of sitar players seem to avoid. I can't really fully enjoy the "masters" of this instrument because I don't have much involvement Indian culture, and bet a lot people feel the same way.

  • @Aleksux : "American sound"? Sitar players don't avoid any particular scale. There are 100s of ragaas in Indian classical music and only 3-4 of them are identifiably similar to a popular western scale. You can cross any cultural barrier if you absorb the different moods and melodic structure of each raga. The western world is missing out on the unbelievably deep melodic foundations. Similarly, a lot of Indian fans miss out on the magical harmonic explorations of western classical music.

  • @vijaybuck you would be surprised, there are more than 3 or 4 raags that have western interpretation...few of these are raags such as raag bhoopali ( major pentatonic), raag kafi ( dorian ), raag yaman ( lydian), raag bhairavi (phrygian), bastant mukhari (phyrgian dominant)

  • oh the hours of tuning :[

  • How many hours does it take to get that good? :)

  • @fatstevens like 2

  • What an amazing woman !!..Great stuff.

  • I bet this chick doesn't shave.

  • I got one of these for graduation. Best instrument ever.

  • HIPPIES FTW id rather listen to this than all the rap and other shitty noise thats playing today...this takes skill and lots of it

  • @slarbiter i couldnt agree with you more.

  • _Namaste

    thank you for this

  • that instrument looks like a big d*ck

  • Absolutely awsome, can't wait to start playing :D

  • Amazing! Beautiful, admiring, sleek tone, delivered. Sitar it all the way!

  • Why does Expert Village suck?

  • that guy is nuts..the dude is nuts

  • raised frets is how that works? what are all the knobs on the side for? that is really interesting

  • is the sitar easier to learn after already knowing guitar bass and lute?

  • Does your badassery know no bounds? That kicked ass. I know nothing about playing the sitar, but I'm pretty sure that demo was awesome no matter WHO the fuck was watching. Keep up the good work!

  • @ crazyjorge2111 if you think the music is such shit, then why are you watching the video

  • why do idiots make a comment?....that piece of music was brilliant

  • are you good at anything apart from being crazy......jorge..21....no try 11

  • you took the bait>>>>hurt did it?....but hello...come. lets stop this...you tell me your point of view and i'll listen...

  • @crazyjorge2111 TROLLOLOLOL

  • LOL THAT LOOKS LIKE A PINK P

  • Oh my gosh! This is amazing! I want a sitar! I can't have one, but I want one! You're amazing at this! Keep it up!!!!

  • beautiful

  • Wow, it's like they took a guitar and said, Meh, not enough strings... And then they took a harp and went, WHOA, this has too many strings! So they came up with this. (note: I realize that is not how this instrument actually came about. TALKING TO YOU, HISTORY BUFFS!)

  • Comment removed

  • it shows that you have no idea about the instrument

  • ha, nice

  • @pieguy1516 well actually the sitar came about after the fall of the Mughal Empire...

    kidding

  • @pieguy1516 LOLZ

  • @pieguy1516 Well, ACTUALLY, the Sitar was originally spawned by an idea by ancient Indian musician *Lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture*.

  • She has a masters in sitar peformance

  • Wow, that was intense! Scales like that are hard!

  • wow! Now listen to an hang drum!

  • @Itsbeavis Hangs are not drums...

  • great hippie

  • it's very good playing, but this is titled "HOW To Play The Sitar" indicating it actually TEACHES you how to play a sitar. :/ I dunno about anyone else, but I didn't learn anything from watching this video

  • You would have a good point, if it didn't say "performance demonstration." Meaning this segment was about demonstrating, not teaching.

  • Yeah, that is also a good point. Still, maybe the "how to play" title just doesn't belong in the title? Maybe it would have been more appropriate to leave that out of the title. I dunno, that's just me.

  • who the eff cares, honestly

  • It's an opinion. Respect it please. I'd appreciate it. :)

  • I learned that I want a sitar.

  • past the : says it a demo of how to play

  • Haha Yes we've established that. I was simply stating an opinion that the "how to play" didn't need to be in the title, as it's not an instructional video.

  • Nice! This lady can play a scale!

  • bullshit. youre trying to play american hillbilly music on a beautiful instrument. go look up a real raga, and please for the sake of your online students, play real music.

  • awesome!

  • if this lady really sucks, like all the "experts" are talking about, then im just glad i finally see this lady pulling out her skills. cause i spent a good amount of my time tonight seeing if she could actually play instead of tell me about the instrument. Good Job lady

  • love guru?

  • What a sloppy & unnecessary use of third ring finger!!!!!!

    Nick

  • Wow! Blue grass on a sitar!

    Spectacular.

  • oh no. this is crap my friend. pure crap!

  • GURU PITKAA

  • how much is a sitar , about ?

  • a lottt

ive been looking for one since i first saw this woman on youtube

and they half $250 dollar ones, but they are half-size and second hand

  • The best place to find them is Froogle (google product search)

  • i bought a quite nice on for 160€...

    In India...

  • DAMN expensive.

  • Non ho parole! Strepitosamente "Samhady-co"

  • in the Bay Area, a good teacher is Joanna Mack. Go to the Ali Akbar Khan college store in San Rafael and ask around.

  • Does anybody know of good sitar teachers?

  • Where? It all depends on where you live. Good of you to ask though because a good teacher is key. Where do you live?

  • Crazy! I just can't wait to get my first Sitar, I would like to know feedback from another guitarist that picked up the sitar. I just learned the banjo and ukulele and got it really fast. Sitar seems like completely something else.

  • Its quite different but being familiar with string instruments will always help. Its a different animal and some guitar players have trouble, some take to it well. Its all just on the individual. I've played guitar 15 years and sitar 9 months. I have vids...

  • dude! i've been playing guitar for 9 months and now i'm ordering a sitar! do you like it? i'll check your vids

  • best instrument ever, love the music great performance 5 starts, hi ian look comment on the top

  • Your raga is divine, and you were my inspiration to take up sitar.

    Love.

  • Wow, I learned a lot from that.

  • was that sarcasm???

  • No, because of this video, I can now totally shred on the sitar. I'm quick learner.

  • Oh, kewl.

  • insane :D

  • lol i only watched this cuz it Reminds me of Demyx From Kingdom Heart xD

  • wow....es una hermosa interpretación de este instrumento, me encantó...

  • how much are sitars?

  • she did,the old hippy bitch

  • mind ur langg,

learn some manners from ur mama

(dont say ur mama taught u this)

  • Lovely dis is!....seriously!

  • I bet that's a b*tch to tune.

  • @jezzz111 You have no idea, wooden pegs rather than metal machine heads, one twist and it changes by a 5th.

  • wow....i think im in love but i cant tell if its with you....or the sitar....i would b honoured if you would watch my video....it is called original instrumental....improvised indian music on an alternate tuned acoustic guitar...

  • Its very Cool, But Who Then all The Sudden Says... "Hey I Wanna Play The Sitar."?

  • I do, buddy. Haha, actually, I wanted to play for a year after I started guitar because my friend plays. So yeah, I kinda said that!

  • it's a demonstration... geez why dont any1 of u try to play good on an instrument if think you have the right to critique this on a small thing like the words lesson and demonstration

  • i wonder where she finds the time between acid trips and protesting war

  • dude this is amazing but she should teach more than play. i don not own a sitar i am a guitarist but if i was trying to play thati would be like "okay first note... SHIT!"

  • nice instrument. picks up guys in ure dreams i bet. that is the weirdest instrumanet ever

  • no....you dont need to say more....ive got better things 2 do than argue online....please dont reply.....

  • how is that a LESSON?????

  • show off.. it's not even a lesson.

  • i think with that ability she has the right to show off, which she isn't actually doing seeing as it says 'demonstration'.

  • hey that was a great lesson, thanks i learned so much

  • Sick.

  • It's called jhala, the technique of sitar shred.

  • does anyone know the traditional clothing worn while playing the sitar, and possibly where I could Buy one?

  • Wow. I'm favoriting this!

  • cool deymx frm kh2 plays a sitar

  • well..

  • DDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAMMMMMM!!!

  • WHOAAA!! Now that was a faster one! Great!

  • its wonderful, its great ..

i dont have any more words for ur performance

  • I thought somewhere in the middle I recognised a classical music phrase, at 0:30, is that an adaptation? Very Well done!

  • shouldnt u be talking aswell?

  • +stares in aww+ omg great and beautiful sound. i love the way you play the sitar!!

  • God I love the sound of the sitar.

  • pretty good but i agree with gurubhai it was a little sloppy i just wish i could play mine like that

  • sounds like hippie music :)

  • bravo!

  • Kya bhaat hay.. Gori.. she is good man..

  • should be playing some rock or heavy metal on that thing man!..lol jk nice vid cool sitar..5/5

  • Excellent. Keep it up.

  • very nice i enjoyed it.

  • wonderful

  • its that the sitar is heavy, its just that its, well, big. a full size sitar is actually pretty light. the problem with playing it standing up is that its fairly cumbersome to play while standing, so you'll hafta figure outa good way to put a strap on it.

  • That's really cool! ^_^ You have a really nice sound.

This is going to sound silly, but would it be possible to play a sitar while standing? I understand they are very heavy...

  • electric sitar

  • very cool! I've added this to the guitar group.

  • The cool thing about sitar, you don't really have to learn it, just hit random notes.

  • thats rather sloppy for a self-proclaimed "expert" (but at least its better than a lot of the other amateur sitar players on here)

  • looks like mimi rogers.

  • rocking out!

  • its just... hypnotic. its sound is just like... floating in the clouds sound

  • I don t understand you people:::: What is so interesting in that Indian Instrument????

  • The only way to describe it is that the sitar in and of itself is so much more "expressive" than a guitar.

  • Oh that is soo biased. They're both expressive in their own ways. The sitar being microtonal doesn't mean it's more expressive. The guitar was crafted for Western music as the sitar was crafted to accomodate Eastern music. Comparing a sitar to a guitar is like comparing a poet to a painter.

  • ITs true, both guitar n sitar can soothe u'r heart. after all music is universal

  • THAT was AWESOME!!! I've always wanted to learn sitar... and now I MUST have one... thanks so much for posting!

  • godamn thats fuckin amazing

  • was she playn' with her fingers, or with her nails?

gotta have rough fingers to play that without nails, or finger picks... had a sitar once in my lap, but I had, and still have nails on the right hand, to play nylon guitar... without them, I would have screwed up my fingers...

  • They use a plectrum . . . but this plectrum is unlike the one used for guitars and all.

The simplest I can put: like a paperclip bent in an odd position

  • SWEEEEET!!!! VERY PSYCHEDELIC!! Man I wish I could shred sitar like that!

  • Sweet yes, psychedelic? No, Indian. No drugs necessary!

  • Holy Moly! you can shred unlike anything :o

  • DEMYX!!

  • Hah! The reason I watched this. [:

  • SAME.

  • LOLems, I'm glad I'm not the only one...This was cool!
