This is back in the days when some performers didn't rely on gimmics and outrageous behavior to give a good show. Some performers can give a good performance without pulling an "Adam Lambert" or some crazy thing. That is what I liked about Robert is that he could give a good performance without acting crazy and getting himself banned on TV.
