I saw St Thomas and I just had to watch. When I was very young...we use to visit my Uncle in St Thomas. This goes back 35 to 40 years. The main yard in St Thomas at that time was owned by the C&O, and they also had a round house maint shed there. From what I remember of it though it was much bigger then the location on this video...then again, we are talking nearly 40 years ago. Anyone remember that old facility?
I know the buildings you are talking about. It was actually an entirely separate yard in St. Thomas. All the buildings from that yard have been torn down except for a locomotive shop (now Elgin County Railway Museum), and the CASO Station, which is being restored to its original state. The yard has been ripped up as of a few years ago. The line the yard serviced went from Detroit to Buffalo, and it was abandoned and ripped up in 2005. So this video shows the second yard, which is still active.
Yes, they use original track. A small stretch of track has been ripped out across Talbot Street, but other than that, it's all used by CN from St. Thomas to London. They also use the original Wabash line.
Well, St. Thomas can see up to 4 trains in one day.
There's 2 trains from CN that come to St. Thomas 7 days a week. One servicing Ford, and one servicing other companies in town.
Trillium Railway's St. Thomas & Eastern comes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. They use the CN yard to exchange cars that need to go to London and beyond by CN.
Lastly, there's a CP train that comes to St. Thomas 6 days a week. It doesn't use the CN yard, but it's still pretty close.
Theres something strangley beautiful and romantic about trains in the snow.

Where is this trackage compared to where the original London and Port Stanley Railway went through St. Thomas? Is this the original line?

Oh that's cool! what about the line from St Thomas to Port Stanley? Is any of that used?
ConrailSD80MAC 3 years ago
Yup. By the Port Stanley Terminal Rail. It's a tourists train.

Holy shit.. how do you know this. Cause I rail fan right in London and I wanna find out when trians come and where! : ) Any sources? : )
Waffles341 3 years ago
Well it's kinda easy when there's only four trains. And since they're not just flying through town, it's not hard to identify what they're doing.
KokkeiMizu 3 years ago
what is so unusual
chirsmike 3 years ago
There's 2 trains in the yard at the same time. That's unusual for St. Thomas cause there's only 2 trains a day from CN.
