  • This guy is brilliant. I've got that album of his; Nothin' But The Blues. Even after all these years its still in a class of its own. Hope the man is well and happy.

  • From 5:48 to 5:51 it looks like Johnny is riding a unicycle.

  • what that guitar is called?

  • @PULSEJETVALVE Erlewine Lazer

  • Why would anybody hate the Stones?

  • the dude looks anorexic

  • @kunjidee the Stones, of which this song originally is, are pretty much anorexic as well. LOL

  • Bien mieux que par les Stones !!!!!

  • As always, Mr. Johhny Winter delivers the goods! Great band too! Top!!!

  • how the fuck do people dislike this?

  • @sodapopkid90 are you being serious? think about it, how many videos have you gone to where you didn't like it, and then went to it.

people just do it to watch people complain.

  • Why do I get the feeling this was loud as fuck?

  • is that Dr.John?

  • Chill Outed Tranquille Jampin' Jack Flash. Very Cool.

  • I love Johnny - now we are getting old but I hope that this music lasts for along time because it is hand made and lovely Rock and Roll and Stuff and blues and Stuff - best Uwe South Germany (a Guitar player) - Johhny I hope you live long - all best for you (I know he wil not read this however someone may tell him)

  • YES YES YES

  • I love Johnny Winter

  • Fantastic version but I have to say the dark mystique and energy of the original has no rival.

  • absolutely amazing!!!

    from 6:45 just gets better!!

whats the name of the bass player????

  • @patrickyev

    Jon Parish

  • I have never seen Johnny Winter live but his Johnny B. Goode and Rollin n Tumblin versions are always on my playlist.

  • @ardnega Johnny Winter seen live was most unreal. I've not see a clip on video that quite captures the experience. You come out thinking your head is gonna explode. He was the most rockin'ist motherfucker on the planet bar none! ;-)

....even the toned - down grandpa version running around today is still an ass-kicking experience!

  • @LordSauceness not *seeN*......lmafao......

  • one of the best ,but few know him, only the real rock people know him

  • one of the best ,but few know him,

  • JUMPIN' JACK FLASH, JOHNNY

  • Johnny Winter "Worlds Greatest Guitar Player" Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Bust A Move ...

    Thanks for the Concert ...

  • it's amazing

  • he is friend of patti smith....

  • johnny winter and jimi hendix would have had the best band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey, I hate all of this "whos better than wo" crap.

Why can't we just love every guitarist for his (or her) own work? They are all supermen in my mind, I can barely play a chord. Guitarists are my road to nirvana, and I love them all!

  • @keikoasmom well nickelback is the road to crapness

  • Immense reprise de Johnny winter ,fabuleux....:)

  • Quelle version géniale *****

    BigMama §:-)

  • from his physical state, and his guitar playin i believe johnny was a wreck at this time, ive heard earlier and later versions of this song, where the guitarplaying is way better, this sound uninspired, not good melody, rythm or tone

  • from his physical state, and his guitar playin i believe johnny was a wreck at this time, ive heard earlier and later versions of this song, where the guitarplaying is way better, this sound uninspired, not good melody, rythm or tone

  • Rockin to johnny since 1973 thanks johnny, signed your fat buddy.

  • Johnny sure has made a lot of people happy. May his magic live forever. When he passes on, there's gonna be a Grand Canyon hole to fill.

  • -Esse tá na pedra!

  • AWESOME!!! If I close my eyes it's ANGUS!!!

  • Johnny was the man but Keef was a much better songwriter and had a far greater influence on guitarists and music generally. Thats probably borne out in the number of stones songs that Sweet Papa John covered

  • appears he was under appreciated at this gig!

  • i cant find it anywhere, what guitar is that?

  • @bassgroove21 Erlewine Lazer

  • @bassgroove21

Erlewine Lazer is the name of the guitar...!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Kevinite that aint a steinberger

  • Comment removed

  • @bassgroove21 I think that is some kind of Steinberger headless guitar. I don't know which model exactly.

  • @bassgroove21 STEINBERGER

  • @djangolad no not steinberger, i found out, he was right its erlewine lazer

  • @bassgroove21 Thats Johnny Winter man!!! and if youlike this listen to Edgar Winter's "FRANKENSTIEN" by Johnny's bro !!!!

  • @bassgroove21 It's an 80s Steinberger I think.

  • @bassgroove21 sineburg?

  • Isn't that Dr. John

  • @Trite77

yes it is Dr. John and these "Music Critics" don't even know who he is...go figure!

  • the night tripper yeah!

  • even jonnys mates great

  • Dr John - mac rebenak.

  • Watching the enthusiasm of the audience is great. It's obvious they loved Johnny and his band. There's just something really special for musicians when they connect with an audience like that.

  • I like how all of you people are hating on the Stones when this song wouldn't exist without Keith Richards. Anyone talking about aggressive guitar should listen to the live version with Keith and Mick Taylor on Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out. It'll take your head off!

That said, Johnny obviously enjoyed Keith's version or he wouldn't be up there jamming on it. How about everybody tones down the Stones hate and just enjoy the goddamn song. It rocks!

  • @zstalin Yeah, no kidding man, this kind of hate exists all over music videos and brings nothing to the music equation. Like the man says, chill out and enjoy!

  • Zarpadooooooooooo

  • dr. john is the phil anselmo of the 60s and 70s. deeply rooted in the underground, stricty n' awlins, always high on the heavy stuff, authentic as they come, and ALWAYS a powerful performer.

Johnny Winter is a class of his own.

  • The Guitar Master

  • Damn! Johnny cooks! He didn't just cook, he ROASTED that lead, lol!

And on an improv too! He had to do this song. This tune needs a varied degree of raunch in it too, and Johnny delivered. :-)

  • Transcend with Johnny and Jump Jack Flash....Yesssssss

  • Skeletor! You rock!

  • wow

  • why tattoo that beautiful white skin

  • Never noticed the Doc was missing a digit before

  • Well I've loved the version on 'And Live' for ever and a day, this almost betters it. But Johnny really was on song for this. I love it.

  • hj é dia internacional do rock roll...segura !!!!!!!!!!!

  • fucking amazing!

  • hey keith watch the master

  • Dr John is on the piano. John Paris on bass.

Keith wishes he could play like this!!

  • rebennack bringin itttt

  • Keith Richards ain't qualified to carry Johnny's guitar case

  • you really want to hear him play this "Johnny Winter Live And" much better !

  • I'm pretty sure that's Paris on bass!

  • Keith Richards isn't good enough to play 6 strings! He has trouble playing the 5 he puts on his guitar! JW is the best blues/rock guitarist/singer that ever was-end of story! Peace!

  • Is that Dr. John on the piano???

  • Can't underestimate or dismiss Keith Richards, he's great, and Johnny cited the Stones as a major influence in a Guitar Player interview.. KR playing this song live doesn't sound like the record either. Johnny Winter turns the pop rock power chord thing over ( improperly ), and spanks it's ass 'till it screams the blues.

  • Wow. I've seen Jon Paris live at BB. King's, Times Square, NYC. I bought a dedicated CD ^^ I didn't know that dude played with Johnny Winter, I found that video and was just stunned. The man's really cool !

  • I love Johnny but has anyone noticed that the bass player took over the guitar behind his back? Who is he?

  • @brsprin The bass player is Randy Jo Hobbs. He was the bass player for the McCoys and for Johnny Winter for many years. Phenomenal bass player.

I'm not familiar with Jon Paris, and what does he have to do with this video?

  • @SmithRuel John Paris is Better Known as DR.John

  • @joethepainter90 Actually, Jon Paris is the bass player. Just look him up. Dr. John's real name is Malcolm John "Mac" Rebennack, Jr,, per Wikipedia.

  • yyyyyyeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! r0cK & RoLL!!

  • It's usually quite hard to say "better than the original" when it's about Stones' tunes, but this is really damn hard rock n' roll.

  • his guitar is so small cause he probably couldnt lift anything heavier :D

  • I think he just prefers it. It's the Erlewine Lazer model. Check it out!

  • a skeleton with a guitar playing...nothing more or less

  • Masters!

  • Wow! Absolutely hot!

Threw me off to see Dr. John at the piano. He's Mr. New-Orleans-Piano!

I actually own one of those very short Steinberger-type-guitars.

I saw Johnny and Jon Paris do this I-play-your-instrument-thing in the late 70s (Rockpalast) and I decided to do the same - which was easy because we were two guitar players in the band sharing the bass for lack of a real bassist. Oh man, the feedback was not so cool. People thought, we were gay! :-))) Omitted it from the show immediately!

  • GREAT story. Funny too. Thanks for sharing.

  • Welcome!

  • INCREDIBLE!!!

  • Johnny is a great example of what is meant by the term "guitarslinger".

  • he is soooo awsome

  • Keith Richards, Mick Taylor, Ronnie Woods, and Brian Jones combined can't play guitar this good. It's not a rehearsed bunch of crap. This is an improvised rendition in the classic blues tradition. I think Mick Jagger and the boys couldn't be more proud to listen to their baby as played by Johnny Winter. Never gets old...

  • Hm. Mick Taylor could, he's unbelievably good and very underrated

  • Mick Taylor is a virtuoso with very few equals. Period.

  • @Unclemoparman since when..Johnny Winter, Ritchie Blackmore,,these guys can Play the Guitar...haven't heard anything worth while from M.T. since his short stint with the Stones.

  • @Unclemoparman

QUITE FUCKING TRUE. Anyone who disagrees need only listen to his wok on the Get Your Ya Yas version of Sympathy for the Devil.

  • @SmithRuel Hang on a sec, Mick Taylor! I would pay to hear Johnny jam with Mick Taylor Two JETS, open 'em up, full throttle and let your ears bleed Ye Hah

  • @SmithRuel Dont compare to Mick Taylor.. he is another style and no one could do better than he did with Stones back in late sixtees and prime seventees.. and Keith did the songs that live forever - Johnny is good .. sure you are right.

  • @SmithRuel Tho he does a good job of it, he's not playing the stones version. Different isn't better, it's just different. rehearsed bunch of crap - you have your head up your ass.

  • @SmithRuel Mick Taylor in his prime shits on anybody so fuck off.

  • BAD ASS!!!!

  • Hace un montón de años vino a Granada al Isabel la Católica. Una actuación inolvidable.

  • Wow what a player! I wished he liked rock more. Johnny played other music most of the time. Johnny Rocks. Thanks for posting this.

  • whos the piano player?

  • Dr. John.

  • @AmosNomore Estaba hecho mierda!

  • Why does Johnny play this song in the key of A( instead of the Stones' original B - the same was on JW's London gig in 1974)? How does he tune his headless guitar? Is it one step down? His figers play the same positions as on the London gig which was in B! Is this because he tuned his headless guitar differently? One full step down?

    Just curious!

He's been one of my favourite guitar player in the field of blues since the early seventies..

    One of the Greats!

  • @emilzd Every venue sounds different, sometimes you have to adapt to your surroundings, what sounds good in B in one place may sound weak in another ...also Richards tuned his axe to an open A for that song.

  • @emilzd Magicians do not reveal their secrets.

  • No one has recognized Tommy Shannon Bass guitar yet, he is on ma favorite list of top workingman bass guitar player podium.

  • The Bass player's name is Jon Paris ...

He also plays harp w the bass.

    Awesome talent ... great video.

The crowd didn't deserve him playing for them,

until Johnny 'woke' them up with the next level @ 6:46 ... Go Johnny Go Go Go.

He loved the Stones & the Stones loved him!

    thanks for the upload AmosNomore...

  • Johnny sure can play as good as any. I think he didnt play a lot of hard rock like this all the time. He liked playing other things. When I was a kid we all liked his style. This is mabe the best version of jjf he did.

  • that long haired bearded guy in the audience has been on acid since 1967

  • SO WHAT

  • Me too, and now I'm Obama's economic czar. It helps me.

  • The USA's most under-appreciated guitarist, Johnny Winter! Jon Paris ain't no slouch, neither. Nothing wrong with a Earl/Lazer guitar, in the hands of a grand master...

  • Up to the level of SRV? Didn't you mean SRV was up to the level of JW?

I do like the look and sound of Fender or Gibson better than any other guitar.

  • I think Johnny sounded better playing Gibson Firebird guitars. They seemed to carry more voice & tone to them and were more suited to his playing style.

  • What a version, what guitar playing, what a band, best ever cover

  • It's a somewhat disgrace for rock the fact that a genius guitarist like this almost never join a band with a genius of charismatic singer like Mick Jagger. Rock most of the time is also about inflated Ego Wars...

  • that thing they do is homoerotic

  • the perfect blend of technique and feeling, isnt it?

  • cool!!!

  • johhny = god

  • vilket jävla drag

  • he is a good guitarist, but man what a retarded guitar.

  • Dah?? I guess if I would of read the dialog box to the right it would of answered my own question.

  • Is that Dr. John playing keyboards??

  • Looks like Dr. John. You can hear him sing around 4:25 and it sure does sound like him too.

  • Have to say i prefer this version to the stones. If it were recorded live in a studio it would be even better

  • dosnt sound anywhere near as good as keith richards. im not saying hes not good on guitar because that would be a daft comment but it dosnt have that proper rock power chord thing going on like the stones. stil amazing guitarist though

  • Johnny makes Keef look like a clumsy schoolboy.

  • lol im sure you wouldnt say that to his face. i didnt say that keith is a better guitar player i just said this song sounds better with keith playing. the guitar is the best bit of the song n it aint got it in this version. just my opinion though lol

  • The escence of a good cover: make it sound yours! Extreme example: Iron Man, originally Black Sabbath's. Listen The Cardigans'.

    Great version.

  • @frenchielcfc I forgot Johnny Winter was a rock guitar player. IDIOT

  • To be fair, Keith R's guitar is tuned to an open G to get that chord 'bigness', while Ronnie W uses regular tuning, helping to create the total Stones guitar sound. Johnny did a pretty good job for the only guitarist in a three-piece band.

  • It was unreal, I remember, I was ther in 69 and Edgar played with him later in the set.

  • I saw John Dawson Winter lll along with John Mayall and SRV many moons ago. twas without a doubt the one of the best shows I've ever seen.I don't give 2 shits if he plays sittin' down now! The audience will be more than happy to stand for him.

  • IF you were at this concert you saw "

    GOD" basically!!

  • Brasil esteve aqui.

Guitarra pura, visceral, autêntica, sem clichês...

  • My guitar instructor popped a Johnny Winter CD into his system and had me listen to it for a few minutes. He then looked at me and asked "What do you think this guy looks like?" I said "he's gotta be 6'5" 400 pounds and black" unbelievable voice and playing. He should have been the biggest thing to ever hit a stage.

  • Wow, every time I watch this video it makes me want to get up and shake my ass!!! What a phenomenon, those people in that studio didn't even know what hit them, those people in the front row must have been deaf or retarded with J.W. throwing down some of the best rock and roll they had ever heard. I would have given my left nut just to have been in that room(maybe even my right nut too) LOL.Rock on to all you J.W. fans out there!!!!!!!!

  • Nice headstock, oops there is no headstock lol it looks comfortable that way for some reason. Nice song too

  • I underestimated Mr. Winter........

  • I think I did too for many years. Probably because he wasn't really mainstream, no big hits or anything. But damn, can he play the guitar! Love his voice too, great blues voice. Way under the radar, but probably as good as I've seen. Few exceptions, but not many are better!

  • I couldn't agree more...

  • amazing guitar playing

  • i saw this line up many times memories just are something else!! LL JW

  • cant wait im seeing him in october gonna kick ass

  • Dr. John-ohh man! I still remember the gig at the end of the 80s in Bremen, Germany and Dr. John played support and encore of Johnny´s set. I will not forget that day!

  • I think his mid-70s versions on the Firebird were better, but this still rocks.

  • INCREDIBLE!

  • One of the best guitar players that ever lived and thats no bullshit man. I watched a video of him from 2008 and it made me cry like a baby. We were all so young and beautiful and rockin mothers back then. Deringer, Edger, Ronnie Montrose, bad mother fuckers.

  • Yes, we all get older (if we're lucky) and none of us look the way we did in '71, but Johnny is still tearin' the joint apart like never before! SEE HIM!!! Your ears and soul will thank you.
