  • all five breaking down? unbelievable! could it also have been man-made problems and they didn't want to say?

  • Get your facts right people, the weather hasn't been this cold for decades ... At 200km/h the train has to have air cooling down the engine and that's why very cold air comes in, in the tunnel it's 24°C which is approx a 20 degrees difference, the water condensates and makes short circuits.

  • there wouldnt be problems like this is people built them properly and maintained them properly..there seems to be alot of plane crashes etc lately...for all 5 trains to halt in tunnels...come on...something is not right..people should kbnow these things and be prepared..apparently we're not prepared for bloody anything..the floods here in ireland, public transport, planes, recession, even doctors are screwing up diagnosing patients wrongly in the result of them dying..

  • I do sympathise with the passengers stuck in the tunnel and on broken  down Eurostar's but Eurostar pay Eurotunnel to use the Channel tunnel, so Eurotunnel is at fault for having a distinct lack of contingency. Eurostar's hands are somehat tied when they dont own the tunnel. They have to wait for Eurotunnels say so . The French side are at fault too!

  • It's the Channel Tunnel that is at fault. If anyone looked at the weather and temp in Northern France when this happened, it was colder than it has been in East Kent. The temperature is 25 degrees inside the tunnel or thereabouts, so this 'ACT OF GOD, is bound to cause problems. Eurotunnel should be able to control the temperature dependant on the weather, and yes the power of Eurostar shouldnt fail, but at least Eurostar try to continue to run, unlike the airports. Good on you Eurostar!!!!!

  • It sucks but breakdowns happen. I'm sure it was very annoying but c'est la vie as they say :p

  • So stupid this is. In sweden we had 10 cm snow yesterday and trains are working fine. Maybe they should have contacted experts who are used to building tunnels in cold weather

  • yeah but i m not sure if the trains in sweden are running 300km/h speed... ;-)

  • We keep a stedy 200 km/h on our fastest train X200 and that runs in all weather snow,ice,rain,thunder,storm. ;) we dont have problems with our tunnels or trains :)

    The problem's not so much the temperature but the amplitude of the two different temperatures (in and outside the tunnel). I doubt that even those clever Swedish train constructors have to deal with underwater tunnels.
