  • I don't remember this show except from discovering it online recently when searching old Hercules cartoons.

Being a giant lion wasn't enough? He needed laser beam eyes too.

I would have loved this as a kid. I guess He-Man and Battle Cat weren't as original as I was led to believe when I was ten.

  • I like the show

  • EL PODEROSO SANSON!!!

  • How DID Young Samson find his superpowers?? Well, as far as I have found (and I remember watching this series ss a pre-teen, back in the 1960s) the secret of how Young Samson obtained his magic bracelets and found the power to turn his pet dog into a lion that shoots power-beams from his eyes WAS NEVER EXPLAINED in the series. That actually made it more fun for me because it left some mysteries up to my imagination. You sometimes need that in heroic fantasy, even on the juvenile level.
  • I agree with most of your comment. My guess if an unexplained origin story , just like recently how SG, Jan, Jace, and the praying mantis villian got to know each other, and the origin of SG's as an hero and explanation of his powers. My guess in this case, his father discover there in a "dig". probably the - "The Ancient Astronauts" ancienct technolgy bit. Discovery by father or son discovers how it works.

  • @realswellguy If I recall Young Sampson received his powers 8 years earlier when he was very young and was in the audience on a tv show called Andy's Gang , on the show was "Froggy the Gremlin" whose powers were quite litterally limitless, he took a liking to little Sampson and his puppy and then wished a couple of power braclets on him and sent him on his way, the rest is history

  • This was rather unique in that his superhero identity was NOT a secret. Everybody pretty much knew he was a superhero.

  • Samson & Goliath was my all-time favorite Hanna-Barbera superheroes growing up! I wish it was a bigger success, NBC canceled the series after '67-'68.

  • Young Samson's voice was supplied by Tim Matheson, "Otter" of "Animal House." Matheson also was the voice of Jonny Quest, Shazzan Jr. and Jayce from "Space Ghost."

  • @Greenandscaly There never was a Shazzan Jr. You're confusing it with "Sinbad Jr and his Magic Belt" aka "The Adventures of Sinbad, Jr."

  • A l'époque je voulais être samson et je me mettais au poignets des cercles en plastique que je trouvais autour des fromage bresse-bleus !

  • I loved those super hero shows that Hanna Barbara did back in the late 60's. But because of some Housewife from Mass complained of the "violence" they were taken off and replaced with a harmless Scooby Doo. Damn Liberals!.... Thanks Bob.

  • @sebring1960 iT WAS THE REPUBLICAINS THAT HAD THE SUPERHEROS CARTOONS BACK IN THE 60's REMOVED .....THE DAM RIGHT WINGER DAMN FOOLS COMPLAINED ABOUT EVERYTHING THATS NOT BIBICAL

  • Most people don't remember that, during the original run of the show on NBC, the network- and the series' primary sponsor, General Mills- were forced to change the name of the show, due to objections from some church groups. It was seen during most of 1968 as "YOUNG SAMSON".

  • "This corragious pair is ready to use their super strength against the evildoers of the world". No grey areas there. Might makes Right. As it should be. Too bad the libbies got hold of kids cartoons in the late sixties and had them mostly deballed not to be seen again until the likes of Batman the animated series.

  • Well, might should only be used to defend right. Which is what Samson and Goliath did. But, problems arise as to what various people consider "right." I remember an issue of JLA, about four years back, that dealt with religious fanaticism. Wonder Woman tried to make this Middle Eastern theocrat admit that forcibly separating a mother and child, no matter what the religious reason, was wrong. But, even the magic lasso could not convince him otherwise! He was that sure of his "truth."

  • Sooo cool! But did anyone else find it weirs that the dog turned into an animal of a COMPLETELY different secies?

  • i used to love watching this cartoon on the usa network before i went to school.

  • This cartoon was always so good, and I always loved when he transformed. I thought it was kinda cool that the dog turned into a lion. I always considered it to be his true spirit, or the term "lion-hearted" was in my mind. All in all, it's still a fun show to see. It was on Boomerang for a while. IT STILL ROCKS!

  • now u see where filmation/mattel got he man 20 years later : ) (also see mightor)

  • Bob, We, like a Young Samsons win over the dragon, the ancient serpent with the power of Jesus Christ, the angel who walk in front us like a lion, The Lion of the Tribu of Judah

  • All the young Samsons have power to win over Goliaths, like David, biblical hero over the giant. Only we need to received in our hearth Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord, He is a Lion of the tribu of Judah

  • The perfect cartoon! A dog, a motorcycle and super powers!

  • Awesome. I have several episodes on DVD from TV...I LOVE this show. I hope someone posts the beginning.

  • This bumper from "Young Samson" (Hanna-Barbera, 1967) wasn't shown here in Brazil.

  • Can someone put up the opening for samson and goliath too!

  • Yes...check my playlist 'Pocketful Of Rainbows'.

  • Looking for these episodes...Please post as many as you can...Young Sampson and Goliath rocks!!!

  • I'd like to see a couple of their cartoons, if you have 'em, too, please! :)

You know what ALWAYS drove me crazy about these two, even as a little boy in 1968? The DOG would be changed into a CAT! LOL

  • Well, you know, I always thought the same thing. Why couldn't Samson just have a CAT that travels with him? I guess the thought was -- domesticated cats don't care one whit about you're welfare if you're in trouble. Plus, back then you had Lassie and Rin Tin Tin as role models -- they'd always come to your rescue.

  • I'm thinking the reason Samson had a dog was because dogs were thought to be more masculine.

Think about it! SuperMAN and SuperBOY had Krypto, the Superdog, and SuperGIRL had a Supercat!

We men are dogs, and women are cats! LOL :)

  • You think that's bizarre? Check out 'Yogi's Space Race'.

  • hey buddy i was just checking out your young samsom and goliath stay tune bumper if you can do you think you can find there origin bumper where the narracter tell of how they got there powers thats if they had one phillip
