You've obviously moved on from this...but I could also add, that I think you should play more with fingers on this and less on fingernails, and I like the style at 3:35 or so, less slow strumming and more plucking, and moving ahead with the tune at a bit more of a presto...also, I'd suggest a rhythm under the chords more..a pace. Try it as a samba just to get some time on it...or, tell me where to put it...
I think this is a really good exercise for discovering/realizing colorful substitutions, but in a practical sense it's not as useful, because you really sort of lose the melody.
On it's own I agree, the melody could stand out a bit more. Once you get more comfortable with those changes and you can get rid of the hesitation, it would be a great arrangement to back up someone else who's playing the melody for you.
Keep at it, you're doin great. It's only giant steps for coltrane, baby steps for the rest of us =P
yeah I've been told my thumb needs to be brought out more but tucking it in is a habit I can't seem to break..But since i can't use a pick to save my life my awkward thumb will have to do, good to see you again Freddy
The good part is, once they get into your playing you'll use them without having to think about it. You'll improve alright you obviously know what your doing. I'm gonna go practice my subs right now. Thanks for the inspiration.
I don't feel like punching any thing now this video is SUPER MEGA AWESOME!!!

very nice whack in a couple of bass runs on the held notes and you got the whole thing down.

Too many substitutions. It barely even sounds like the song.

Good work. Great tone too.

i realize the talent and effort that it takes to make bountiful chord subs, but after awhile, you lose the nice sound of the song. nice job though!

Sick finger-style playing, man. Wicked chord subs too. Great job.

i think you should make the melody more obvious and do more inversions and i'm really sorry but play in time. it helps

I think you've kind of over substituted here.

Thanks Steve, Subs are not an area I like to experiment with (too much thinking required) hopefully I'll improve with practice and motivation
