Great match, but IMHO, the greatest match at the Australian Open was in 2005 when Safin beat Federer in his prime, and ending Federer's 26 match winning streak 9-7 in the 5th in the Semis!
@samoht500 dammit, I can't sound sarcastic while typing on a computer. I know enough Spanish to know how to pronounce his name correctly, but thanks for replying anyway :)
after 5 hours and only 1 day and a half of rest, to come back and play another 5 setter 2 days later with roger, just show´s what a hell of an athlete/competitor, rafa really is..
this was nadal's best tournament performance ever playing 2 5 sets backtoback and beating Federer in the final Federer played better tennis in the final but nadal mentally stronger held in there in the 5th set!!!
Hyper on the court that is, but every bit of a gentleman off court. In this day and age, you will never find a more humble and down to earth athlete than Rafael Nadal. He just plays every point like it is his last. Brilliant match from both guys!
The best tie breaker verdasco will ever play. It was so insane he was so fired up i can't believe it. Even nadal was like what the fuck....It's almost like he was taking drugs and the reaction after winning the tie break was truly amazing and inspirational 1:12 . Australian open 2009 was insane.
thats quite true but Verdasco redeemed himself at times, but still its pretty good, since almost every player in the tour is intimidated by the force of Nadal.

Verdascos tennis strokes looks the best out of all left handers. Nadals strokes are quite awkward actually.

How did he crush Verdasco?
Rafa was basically 2nd best for most of this match...but its his better physical condition that won him the match
