  • very good version man...god job..i missed some of that notes in my version, tnx for upgrading me :)

  • Best version I've seen so far, almost spot on replication of the sound.

  • Great playing.

When u see the fret work close up like this u realize how clever The Edge is at this guitar stuff

  • this is just absolutely awesome... and brought a tear to my eye as to how beautiful the edges guitar work is on this song. well done my friend and many many thanks for this.

  • It never fails I play drums and have yet to ever play any song the exact same way twice, pretty robotic and boring if we did,one guitarist to another will always critic something hence ( ocaladiver) Mr. u2Guitartutorials I thought this sounded awesome and dead on, in fact I would pay money to watch you cover this. Now if I could just get our guitaarist to stop picking we might get practice done. In case you guys havn't figured it out yet this is the real reason the drummer shows up late.Rock ON!

  • @71sleek

Very kind of you, thx. I actually do make a couple minor mistakes in getting to the notes quickly. I actually never mean this to be an updated cover. I was updating my preset and tone, had the camera on and just played it straight through. I was more relaxed than usual and didn't care about how it came out. When I played it back, I thought it was better than my previous version, so I put it up.

  • C'est Magnifique!

  • Amazing! This is the best song! so amazing!

  • great work!!!

  • awesome job man..! congrats.!! =D

  • Awesome... The delay sounds just like the original !

  • damn you to hell now I want to play guitar again. You iss a few little nuasiances (at the end most notable) but pretty damn good

  • @ocaladiver

Thx! I would be interested in which nuances you are referring to. I based this off the Slane version.

  • @U2GuitarTutorials there are no nuances in this tutorial. it is DEAD ON the slane version. great job! i love watching your tutorials.

  • damn you to hell now I want to play guitar again

  • perfect!

  • Great playing and absolutely superb job on the tone. Axe FX seems to put the other simulators to shame, in terms of realism. If I could afford one, I would have one. Maybe I just sell a kidney or something...

  • @MrSuperCollider

Thx, but I didn't use the Axe-Fx for the amp modeling here. I used the Tech21 Liverpool which is $150. All you need is a Strat, Liverpool and Boss DD-20 and you will get the same tone. The new Axe-Fx II has amazing amp modeling, so I'm not using the Liverpool anymore. The Axe-Fx in this video was the Ultra version. I've upgraded.

  • What is the song that is played at the first 20 seconds? Amazing Covers by the way! Love your stuff

  • @stanoreilly32

Thx. U2 played this intro at the beginning of the Vertigo tour before they came on stage. It's Arcade Fire's "Wake Up"

  • huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! \0/ It's the EDGE.

  • YOU ARE AMAZING!!! :)

  • Brilliance. Sheer brilliance. :-)

  • nothing to say just perfect!

  • i still like this version alot, the delay and strumming pattern in the intro is perfect michael. keep up the good work.

  • VERY VERY NICE GOOD JOB, I NEED THE SETTING OF DELAY

  • @MultiElhadad

Should be in other parts of the tutorial. See the "B" parts. 354ms with 4-5 repeats.

  • AWESOME cover!!!!!

    you did the song justice

  • @U2GuitarTutorials It is definitely the best cover which I ever heard.

I listen it everyday, it is perfect simply.

    Nice job Michael !

  • @Rafal102able

Thx! there are a couple subtle mistakes in there but it was better than my last attempt. I was actually testing some new camera settings and didn't intend to post this. So I was more relaxed and it came out decent. I'm going to update this tutorial next in HD.

  • @U2GuitarTutorials Mucisians are like artists, we are our own wort enimies. why mess with Perfection? you yourself said how relaxed you where, please give yourself a break followed by a pat on the back!!

  • Ashwin here, Hi Michael , I hv been following your guitar tutorials for all U2 songs. You are a good, to the point and simple to learn from. Streets has been the best in my opinion cause its the most difficult. You did very well, very very very close the actaul thing. Can u tell me the exact delay settings for streets on a GNX3, using a Ibanez RG570. Obiviously i can never get the Fndr tone, but all the same.----Ash

  • is the live version a half step down?

  • @kenisinoregon:

    Yes!

  • @U2GuitarTutorials It is much more mids than highs simply?

  • @U2GuitarTutorials IMHO this tone is perfectly.

Can you give me any advice how to get that tone? Can you tell me how to set EQ or give me setting from your tech 21, only the most important like( HIGH,LOW,MID and DRIVE)?

  • @Rafal102able: Watch my Bad tutorials. I show my Tech 21 settings in one of the videos. You also need a Strat in bridge/middle position.

  • I hear ya man. Good job with the tone it's right on the money. Thanks for making these vids. When I want to learn how to play another one of my boys great songs I know where to go!

  • I can't see your head. You are not the edge r u?

  • @clmsntigr113:

Thx, but definitely NOT! I prefer to get as close as possible on the guitar so everyone can see what I'm playing.

  • Are they the Kinman Woodstock Regular Strat Set Pickups??

  • @JohnJR2009: yes!

  • Freakin' SWEET!!!

  • hey mike, im was wondering what kind of guitar your using, ive been looking around and all ive seen are different pick ups and a flyod rose system, which brings me to my next question. how does your guitar not go out of tune when using the whammy bar?

  • @oighroi:

It's a 2003 Custom Shop Strat (1960 version). But I changed the pup guard to black and put in Kinman Woodstock pups. A whammy bar will not go out of tune if set up correctly by a professional. If it does, sometimes you can just hit the bar quickly (quick push on it) and everything goes back to normal. I'm no expert in whammys.

  • @U2GuitarTutorials thanks alot, would u happen to know if fender has a left handed version of the 2003 Custom Shop Strat (1960 version)? if not does it rly matter what kind of strat it is?, if your putting in Kinman Woodstock pups.

  • @oighroi:

Sorry, no idea. You should buy a Strat you are comfortable with. There are many different neck shapes, thicknesses and curvatures to the face of the neck. You should play as many as you can before buying. The American Std and Made in Mexico are both very good. Custom Shop even better but more expensive of course.

  • @U2GuitarTutorials thx a lot for the info i was wondering if i use a Standard Stratocaster® Left Handed and change the pick ups to Kinman Woodstock, will that work?

  • @oighroi: Yes, should work just fine. Use 0.11 gauge strings also.

  • @U2GuitarTutorials Hi Michael

Can you recommend me good delay unit cheaper than Axe FX of course?

    Something between 700-1000$

  • @Rafal102able

Boss DD-20 is not very expensive and an excellent delay. Eventide mades great delays also.

  • !!!!! amazing

  • Out of all the U2 songs i want to learn this one the most, thanks for taking the time to make these

  • Hey Mike. Which wood do you prefer for U2 music on the fingerboard of a strat? Maple or rosewood? And why.. Thanks! Keep it up, they really help.

  • @EdgeFan567: They say maple is brighter, but I think only a pro could tell. I like the feel of maple.

  • @U2GuitarTutorials ohh sorry mate i didnt make that point very clear! lol i was actually talking about the strumming during the intro not the verse, sorry when i said the 'D' i ment the d string not the note haha but many thx for the reply. QUALITY MATE!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • very nice indeed!!! one point though, are you muting the D whilst strumming??? i am sure you will remember the BBC vid where the Edge demonstared the delay and used this song as an example. There i seemed to recall the edge with his index finger on the e and b. string. STILL COOL!

  • @IPODBAD:

I don't play it exactly like Edge. There is definitely muted strumming in the verse, and Edge holds his hand across the strings in different places, but I like to be over the chord to get to it faster. Thx!

  • @U2GuitarTutorials I like sounds in 4:00.

    Awesome cover Michael!

  • Hey,

great sound and playing as everytime! One question: why do you don´t use the amp model section of the axe fx? Bye!

  • @gitarrero2005:

Thx, I just prefer the tone of the Liverpool better. It's all analog and reacts slightly different. It's not a huge difference, but something I notice and prefer. I can't describe it. It's "warmer." Just has a certain quality about it.

  • realy nice tune! few mistakes on the play. congrats

  • what tunning are you using ? is i standard or 1/2 step down ?

  • @U2GuitarandBasscover: Should be 1/2 step down if I recall correctly.

  • Breathtaking.

  • I've seen you clean coated the neck, nice :)

  • @DoctorJack123:

Long story. It had to be refretted and finished. The nitro is new from last year and still not worn in.

  • excellent job man!!! bravo!!

  • which part2 is here used (2a, 2b,...)

  • @whereisthiscity:

There is an old series of tutorials that I have re-titled as Part B1, B2, etc. I'm starting a new series that will be labled A1, A2, etc. I only have part A1 (this video) done. I still have to record the rest of series B. I may remove the B series later since it's old and harder to follow.

  • Definitely need the Nikey shirt to play this fast ;)

  • Great video as always sir. If you can spend maybe 1 added moment on the first strumming pattern after the opening riff i'd be very happy. I have a bit of arthritis in my hands so my style has changed over the years and when i watch your videos it helps me to alter tones or strings a bit to suit my hands. Thank you again Michael on being the best video instructor period.

  • @ExhaustingPassion: Yes I will cover this in the updated tutorial. See old tutorials for some insights.

  • It's so beautifully fresh!

  • dude.... ಠ_ಠ ,, seriously ,, you are the best doin' covers of U2 ,, no foolin' :) !!

  • Analog stuff rules.

    Really rockin out at 4:00

  • Analog stuff rules.

  • As good as it gets Michael, really well done, perfection!

  • great mike!! ;-)

  • great

  • Hello first i want to say thanks for all your passionate work. I have a M13 line 6, could you explain in words what kind of delay should i use, the bpm, repeats ,reverb? compression?

Thanks in advance you really nailed the tone.

  • @alga1309: I'll cover this in the updated tutorial. Join our board on Google Groups and ask there. Many will help you.

  • @alga1309

Please join the U2_Guitar_Tutorials group on Google Groups and ask your question there. Many will help. Streets is just one dotted 8th note delay into an AC-30. That's it. The difficult part is knowing how to set up your amp and or amp model. And it helps to have the SDD-3000 pre-amp into the amp or amp model. Learn more on the board, thx.

  • @U2GuitarTutorials thats the part i dont undestand what you mean by setting up amp and or amp modeling?

  • @ishaan719:

Please join the U2_Guitar_Tutorials group on Google Groups and search the discussion threads. Lots of info on this topic. This isn't the best place for explanations, just quick notes. Thanks for your understanding.

  • Would you consider doing a line 6 pod hd 500 preset overview?

  • @guitarforlif: Sorry, I likely won't have time. Please join the U2_Guitar_Tutorials group on Google Groups and ask your question there. Many will help. Streets is just one dotted 8th note delay into an AC-30. That's it. The difficult part is knowing how to set up your amp and or amp model. • simply..AWESOME cover and Awesome tone! ciao cheers!

  • Also, what's your recommendation for getting delays as close to that Axe-FX, but in a stand alone floor pedal?

  • @edensoto

Please first search the discussion threads on the U2_Guitar_Tutorials Google group. If you can't find the answer, then post your question on the group message board. Due to the significant increase in the number of questions I'm getting through YouTube and my limited time, I have decided to only answer questions on the U2_Guitar_Tutorials Google group. I review every post. Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Why are you making these re-makes???

  • @WilliamRampart: See description. Just like this tone better. Also, my Street tutorial is old and missed some parts of the song. I want to improve the quality for this tutorial since it's such a popular song.

  • Curious as to why you used the Liverpool pedal as opposed to doing it entirely in the Axe-FX? Sounds amazing, merely curious (:

  • @edensoto: Good question. The Liverpool is all analog and has a tone I can't describe. It reacts slightly differently to the delays and boosts. Some people hate this description, but it's "warmer" and a little less artificial. Don't get me wrong, the Axe models are fantastic and the difference is subtle. I have some vids up that compare the Axe models with the Liverpool. See my tutorials on Bad for these comparisons.

  • good as always
