why do ppl think that once u die, u go to heaven and smile down on loved ones - really? What would be the point. Just think about it....it makes no sense. Heaven is for Jehovah and his angels..read the bible, angels have jobs. Never has there ever been any account of someone coming to heaven jus to look at the living - smiling. God aint crazy, he would never waste our time like that.
Everybody knows how being dead is. Its the exact same thing as when ur falling asleep, u cant see it coming, it just happens u wake up in the next morning, except when ur dead, u just dont wake up.
I'm wasting my life not because I'm scared of dying, though I certainly am scared of dying.
People say if you live a full life, avoid regret where possible, make things better for others etc, that you will be able to face death knowing you did what you could and find comfort, in the absence of religious hope.
Do you think that's true? Can a 'good' life help you at the end of yourself? I can't imagine finding a good thought in that situation, but then I don't have many good thoughts anyway.
@reluctable I guess it's just biology. We try to stay alive as living organisms. We won't purposely let tigers eat us. We would feel fear and that would drive us to escape from the tiger. So I'm guessing the same (I don't know, neural or hormonal) reactions occur to make us feel fear when we think of dying. This doesn't directly answer your question but maybe it'll give you a different idea about dying.
Its depresing thinking about you and your family dead, not here anymore, gone forever. Time catches up with us all in the end, just gotta make the most of it while its there and enjoy this temporary life, smile, dance, spend time with people, be a free spirit, your soul never dies.
Sometimes I sit up at night just thinking about death and shit. At first it's just a regular thought: I live, it's relatively pointless, and then I die.
I say "fine, I can accept that."
But then suddenly it hits me. The fact that I won't exist anymore. I can get dying; what I can't get is not existing at all -- not consciousness at all.
I'll simply not be there anymore. That thought scares me.
@n1bigdaddy i was like that ! exact same my heart used to pound. but then again i believe in the afterlife there is much more out there that we dont kno if you look up dannion brinckly he has some wiked near death experiences you should check them out , peace
@n1bigdaddy I have a friend who feels the same way you do about death. That's a very egoistic mindset. Trying to protect your sense of "self" even at the face of death. If you believe in an afterlife like religious people, it might solve your problem.
there's nothing more universal than the fear of the unknown, and death is the pinnacle of that, all you know for certain is how you experience life will never be the same. death provides meaning and value to time. shambling through your life waiting for a saviour in each and every generation is nothing more than blind vanity. these things have been mercilessly exploited by the divide and conquer ruling classes since early times. in reality the moment is all that exists, so much is in our heads.
Death is nothing but a control over living. It dictates every aspect of our life. Do you honestly believe anyone would go to church if there was no such thing as heaven?
applaud your clear thinking on this subject and your attitude is realistic. It is our instinct to fear death for a few reasons - mainly because we "don't know what it is like to be dead". Religious people need to sweat the hell scenario too - yeesh. Anyway, my take is that I am going to return to the state that I was in before I was born. That is not scary at all. The scary part is 'is this gonna hurt?' .. like getting cancer or something. Lastly, fearing something inevitable is silly
