My son doesn't really jump on the sofa, my bed yes. He does however take a 2 meter run and jump at it landing upside down on his head!! I wouldn't dream of stopping him. Sometimes he says "you sign upside down" to which I am to reply "you sign crazy ..."! I see some words in the tags I don't like but I already like you from the two vids so I will continue.....
This is so cute I remember my son used to play with his sister this way However, now he cant relate to her He is thirteen and she is 16 She is the one with autism
Let's explain how ABA is science (makes sense considering my handle) by relating how ABA has studied Floortime.
Ingersoll, B., Dvortcsak, A., Whalen, C. & Sikora, D. (2005). The effects of a Developmental, Social-Pragmatic Language Intervention on Rate of Expressive Language Production in Young Children with Autisic Spectrum Disorders. Focus on Autism & other DD, 20(4), 213-222.
Foxx, R.M. (1996) Twenty Years of Applied Behavior Analysis in Treating the Most Severe Problem Behavior: Lessons Learned. The Behavior Analyst, Vol. 19(2), 225-235.
JRC should have read this article first. So don't think behaviorism means barbaric or work at a table.
Many teachers do what they do because they love children and that can also relate to children with autism.
Teaching can be DTT, NLP, PRT, RDI, and many other ideas, but science explains what they (an intervention choice) effect (behaviors or functioning of child) relative to what is learned.
ABAisScience - interesting, given that public schools are doing away with Direct Instruction as an effective teaching methodology. One excellent thing about IEPs is my little one will never be subject to the mess that is constructivism.
Schools don't do things based on science, but for those with disabilities it makes sense to teach based on science. I'm not saying rush out and start discrete trial training, but understanding the principles of learning makes sense.
ABA - I believe schools should be teaching all students based on science - after all, neurodiversity is about more than just disabilities. Everyone is different in their own way - I'm not talking about DTT, something more like DI or PSI. Give the teachers a little freedom and let them do their jobs - teach - without know-nothing curriculum admins telling them what and how to teach it.
Ya know, i have 3 kids, 2 of them are mobile & one has autism....i dont recommend anyone to sit on my couch 1) they'll feel the springs from the broken-ness 2)they'll get jumped on. LOL Great video :)
Very good video! As I'm sure you have seen my four year old has something in the Autism Spectrum ...doesn't "test" enough to be Aspbergers or Autistic but he's somewhere on there (PDD ?) I too find the joy in such "little" things as you've pointed out in this video. What does RDI stand for?
That is just awesome! I believe that children who have parents, such as yourself, will eventually learn to overcome this thing they call Aspergers. The Dr.s told me what my son would not do, I have shown them with LOVE, and lots of patience, anything is possible. I too have a son 8 w/Aspgs, an a daughter 9. It was only until last year that he would even allow her in his room. This year, he asks her to come and play.
wow, thats fantastic. i agree with everything you say. Everyone sells our kids short. Its exactly like you said, with love and patience anything is possible.
very good choice. we got to see jake's sister and some sibling bonding so that was an awsome choice..it was a great choice also not to quit just becaue your old account died.
yeah, but when i did my first RDI vids that got me started on youtube i thought they would be seen maybe a hundred times in a years time. not a couple of thousand. and i didnt think people NOT doing RDI would be interested. but i was wrong. so i will re-do them and keep 'em short, but put more fundemental information in them. In the end this is maybe a good thing.
WE view all of our belongings as things that we will eventually have to replace anyway so we just let Braden do his thing. It's funny because today I found a drawing on our NEW couch in black ink... lol.. oh well.. You're only a kid for ahorth amount of time , let the children play. =)
We go through sofas like you wouldn't believe...Neil is really rough on them. I enjoy my child, but I don't enjoy getting a new sofa every other year! ;)
i like when i was screaming AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRREEE

I don't see how selling short relates to teaching and I like teaching that is proven.
