Hey, ICS, I was wondering if I can put a split gearbox upper and lower into any standard metal m4 body? I really need to get a new gearbox, and I love the idea of the 2 piece gearbox making maintenance much easier, but I don't want to buy both pieces and figure out that they're specific to ICS bodies.
@andersen8183 No airsoft gun is actually "lipo ready"in the sense that companies want you to believe when handing them your money - that's just a marketing gimmick to make you pay more for a gun. Any real "lipo ready" airsoft gun needs to have metal bushings(not bearings), properly shimmed gears, and most importantly, it needs a reliable Mosfet to prevent your trigger contacts from frying - if it's got these, then I would call it capable of running a lipo. CXP has all but the mofet iirc.
@MistroJoe Yes they do, but don't get systema - it's overpriced garbage. If you're paying that much, get Prometheus, or better yet. Head to AirsoftGI and pick up RiotSC gears - they're a bit more but are virtually indestructible.
Ics team you guns are the best and basically what i only use and want to purchase but i have a few questions if you run them on high powered batteries will they break real fast? Stripped gears, burnt motors and what not? I've been using them stock performance only with only spring up or down grades. i love your split gear box. working on them is alot easier. Thanks. ics ur awesome. I got the ICS M4A1 Fixed Stock Full Metal Tactical Carbine. love the gun but when i got my piston was chipped besides that it is a amazing gun. the split gearbox is awesome. can i put a m113 spring (350-380fps) in it without any up grades or would i have buy some more upgrades?

I have the same thing with an 11.1v 1600mah 20c and a mosfet installed. Let me tell you, it is beast! Especially with the mosfet, it increases the ROF on my gun. Although I don't shoot auto often, I'd still like my gun to last longer

hi ICS Team, i have a CXP 08 that i have a littel issue with, the gun is fully stock and i was running a 9.6 1200mah. but in a games after shoot for no more that 30 min the battery goes totally dry no power at all, i know the gun have m120 spring and im not sure if the ICS 3000 motor. so my questions is if i can use a 7.4 3300 or 4000 mah lipo battery or a 9.6 3300mah or 10.8 1600mah? in the gun without no braking my piston or messing with the gearbox that actually i have a split gearbox too.

hello ICS team! almost all my airsoft guns are ICS: 3 M4 1 MP5 1 AK74 I plan on getting the L85, SIG and Galil in the future. I love the split gearbox. field repair is easy and it has happened to me many times where i just get an extra upper gearbox and replace. it takes 2 minutes! two problems: plastic hopup on M4 is no good -- breaks too much, please make metal. please use Modify style gearbox for V3 boxes. keep up the good work! I don't think it's loud. this is STANDARD volume for new out of the box gears. everything airsoft sounds like this, admittedly clone guns are louder, but ICS/KWA/CA all sound about the same in terms of loudness. if you want quieter parts it will cost you. why do you want it to be quiet anyway? seriously -- it's a replica firearm.
I've fired all types of CA and stock TM. as far as I'm concerned it's about the same. all of these things make a sound and maybe you think ICS is louder. it doesn't make any difference to me. 'quiet' guns don't make a damn bit of difference in airsoft- only how you play it. same as in Iraq. a SAW was one of the loudest things I've ever heard fired but after a while it didn't make any difference -- it's all loud. it's only if you can stand up and walk back to your unit is what counts.

another reason why i like these guns is they are cheaper than the other guns and this is why I stick with ICS. times have been tough since getting back and I can't afford much -- it all goes to everything else and the airsoft thing keeps me 'sharp' before i have to go back.

I suggest you better ask the retailer where you bought it. Because some time the problem is kind of complex. If it is not convenient for you to reach the retailer. you can take some photos, then sent it to ICS service email. We will figure it out for you!
ok thanx...i also have another problem...my m4 has gone thru 3 tappet plates and not my piston just snapped, im using a regular 84V battery and the gun is stock...what could the problem be??
My ICS clocks 400fps @ 29rpm with a 20c lipo+shs 13:1 gear+EG1000+PDI 170+proper AOE. The only problem was the bushings. 6mm cant survive. The bushings gave up after 5 450rnd mag. The bevel gear bushing came loose. Replaced twice already.
I'd like to see a video that can really prove or test the limit of the ICS upper gearbox. High FPS in high ROF. Coz ive seen a ver 2 and 3 gearbox that can survive 33-36rps @ 440fps with proper set up.
The gearbox itself has no problem with reasonable springs. High RoF puts no extra actual strain on the gearbox, it simply causes the same amount of wear but at a faster rate. The split gearbox can easily handle 38rps on an M110 spring, for many hundreds of thousands of rounds. Obviously not stock parts, but anyone trying to reach extreme levels of performance isn't best advised to be using stock parts unless they are extremely high quality already.
7.4V lipo battery is only equal to a 9.6V standard nimh or nicad battery ... So if you want crazy ROF , the 7.4V lipo is not for you but the 11.1V lipo which will give you crazy ROF though if your gearbox is not ready for it and that you have a HIGH FPS spring, it will most likely rip the shit out of the gearbox.
Ideally, 7.4V lipo does not hurt the gearbox but the 11.1V lipo does.
Not really die hard, but still it shows it can handle full auto @m120 without crackin instantly like relgular Marui ver2 would (mine did with m100, but i have heard ppl using m120 without problmes). But i think the big thing here is that you can change cylinder in seconds (which id like to see in action) like in systema PTW without paying as much.
This video doesnt prove anything. They didnt mention the internals of the upper and lower gearbox, it plays a big role in this test. Any gearbox can survive this test if your using soft spring. The main problem of the ICS is the sector gear and piston teeth meshing.
I have an ICS M4A1 (2007 edition). Internals are pretty good though, but yeah this video isn't so much of a "Die Hard Test". It isn't as good as a KWA or G&P, but it is high quality. The thing that bothers me is that I'm stuck with 6mm bushings!
Wow it can run on a Li-Po for a few bursts wonderfull let me see it after 100k rounds on that Li-Po I can get any clone gun and run it on a Li-Po for awhile. While running a gun on a Li-Po like this is cool I wouldn't consider this a "Die Hard" test, more of just a cool ROF video for ICS. Anyway ICS you should send me a CXP for free and I'll do a reveiw for it and a few real die hard tests for you :D

When everything is origional stander from ICS, we will recommand M140 as heavist spring with turbo 3000 high troque motor.
Because the infinit is high speed motor, so you better switch to turbo 3000 motor when you upgrade!

Those are nice, smooth, soft, chugging sounds of muted gearboxes doing their jobs.
THIS monster, however, is ridiculously loud.

Yes, I agree that it doesn't need to be quiet. But this is not a pleasant sound to be heard. It's like a loud siren screaming at your ears.

ok thanx...i also have another problem...my m4 has gone thru 3 tappet plates and not my piston just snapped, im using a regular 84V battery and the gun is stock...what could the problem be??

My ICS clocks 400fps @ 29rpm with a 20c lipo+shs 13:1 gear+EG1000+PDI 170+proper AOE. The only problem was the bushings. 6mm cant survive. The bushings gave up after 5 450rnd mag. The bevel gear bushing came loose. Replaced twice already.

I'd like to see a video that can really prove or test the limit of the ICS upper gearbox. High FPS in high ROF. Coz ive seen a ver 2 and 3 gearbox that can survive 33-36rps @ 440fps with proper set up.

C'mon, I have already change a lot of this ICS upper GB, with our set up of 350FPS at 25-35ROF, They break easily.

The gearbox itself has no problem with reasonable springs. High RoF puts no extra actual strain on the gearbox, it simply causes the same amount of wear but at a faster rate. The split gearbox can easily handle 38rps on an M110 spring, for many hundreds of thousands of rounds. Obviously not stock parts, but anyone trying to reach extreme levels of performance isn't best advised to be using stock parts unless they are extremely high quality already.

Li-poly batteries have very high-tension current, this battery is like the 9.6v or even higher Ni-Cd/Mh.

7.4V lipo battery is only equal to a 9.6V standard nimh or nicad battery ... So if you want crazy ROF , the 7.4V lipo is not for you but the 11.1V lipo which will give you crazy ROF though if your gearbox is not ready for it and that you have a HIGH FPS spring, it will most likely rip the shit out of the gearbox.
Ideally, 7.4V lipo does not hurt the gearbox but the 11.1V lipo does.

Not really die hard, but still it shows it can handle full auto @m120 without crackin instantly like relgular Marui ver2 would (mine did with m100, but i have heard ppl using m120 without problmes). But i think the big thing here is that you can change cylinder in seconds (which id like to see in action) like in systema PTW without paying as much.

This video doesnt prove anything. They didnt mention the internals of the upper and lower gearbox, it plays a big role in this test. Any gearbox can survive this test if your using soft spring. The main problem of the ICS is the sector gear and piston teeth meshing.

I have an ICS M4A1 (2007 edition). Internals are pretty good though, but yeah this video isn't so much of a "Die Hard Test". It isn't as good as a KWA or G&P, but it is high quality. The thing that bothers me is that I'm stuck with 6mm bushings!

Wow it can run on a Li-Po for a few bursts wonderfull let me see it after 100k rounds on that Li-Po I can get any clone gun and run it on a Li-Po for awhile. While running a gun on a Li-Po like this is cool I wouldn't consider this a "Die Hard" test, more of just a cool ROF video for ICS. Anyway ICS you should send me a CXP for free and I'll do a reveiw for it and a few real die hard tests for you :D

It's great ICS can take a Li-Po, but so can every other gearbox. The REAL test is how long it will last long term.
