i am still a nursing student in hong kong. but even i can feel the great pressure exerted on RNs in the ward. apart from administering meds, wound dressings, etc, they have so many paper work to do. they even don't have time for patient education like care for stomas. but still, i want to be a nurse as i think more nurses for now can reduce heavy workload and provide better care and education to clients.
I am a RN in the US. I work 12 hr shift with 7 patients that I give total care except changing the bed. Minus the time I spent communicating with doctors and families, passing meds, doing care (e.g wound care), patient education, discharge, doing VS, reading monitoring strips, charting, and a 30 min lunch I have less than 1 hr for each pt. Watching this episode makes me cry. There is so much I want to do for my pt but the nurses are becoming like robot performing tasks.
Thanks!
