I have to say I dont like the idea of going out to kill a fox but I do agree with the fact it is less humane to shot a fox than kill it with hounds unless they shoot it at point blank range. I followed the local hunt the hounds have never actually caught a fox they are too stupid, but they did flush one out and it was shot but not killed just badly injured it was horrific, if hounds get it one hound kills it instantly and they dont chase the fox for long periods, they chase the scent
I agree. Fox hunting is really a form of environmental management that has taken on the trapings of a sport to those ignorant of it's purpose. The fact is, foxes kill and destroy valuble livestock and crops. Those who advocate a ban on hunting ought to put their money where their mouths are and contribute to a fund that compensates farmer's for their livestock and crop losses.
There is no reason for hunting an animal for sport. If their chickens are being killed then they should make proper enclosures to prevent foxes getting in. I make sure my guinea-pigs are safe in their enclosure in our garden because we have cats, foxes and rats living round here and have a neighbour who lost a rabbit to a fox, but neither of us would blame the animals who killed them.. it just looked for food, we are supposed to provide adequate housing for our pets and livestock.

ok I enjoy it we never catch a really fit fox so just like in nature its survival of the fittest and therefore a new generation of fit healthy and beautiful foxes are born. Most of the foxes we catch are old and would have died a lingering death. shooting there isnt any selection so the healthy foxes are killed too. its great exercise for the horses, hounds and a great excuse for a tipple and a gallop across country whilst doing the farmers a favour.

Posioning- If the fox doesn't get enough poison, it dies slowly.
-c- FOX HUINTING- Okay, scenting out a fox can take forever, but the actual chase is only around 20 minutes. Healthy foxes can (fact) outrun hunting dogs (or find decent cover), but old or ill foxes will be taken down in killed in less then minutes. DOGS GO FOR THE THROAT TO KILL. Old or ill foxes are the ones that will cause vast damage to livestock and to endangered animals, as healthy ones can still catch their normal prey.
Unlike a lot of other creatures, the fox population can become strangling thick, because they have no natural predators. So the ill ones die slow, as do the old.

Cows are easy to kill with a gun when slaughtered properly. Foxes on the other hand are not only extremely fast, but they tend not to run in straight lines. I know about 200 hounds that can kill a fox with one swift bite. I never want a fox to have to suffer a long agonizing death from a bullet wound that does not kill instantly.
No, the other hounds are actually held back. I know on here it does look like they are getting all in, but the lead hound always gets the first bite and that is always the bite that kills. Then, the other hounds are allowed to begin biting, only and only after the fox is dead.

It'd actually be more painful to do that. The hounds are trained to bite at the neck first, killing the fox straight away. Farmers might only have a shotgun, a very powerful gun at close quarters, but anything more that 50 feet then it will only wound. The fox will take days to die and that is just so sad.

Even anti-fox hunters know that foxes are a pest- that's just a fact. But what other ways are there to do it beides fox hunting?
Shooting. Cub culling. Poisoning. Traps. Man-made disease. - Which do you prefer?
Only the very best shooters could hit a small moving target at dusk/night.

-c- Most of the time, the fox will be clipped and will die slowly from the wound or infection in it. Besides, who can give the time to wait with a gun, silent and still in the cold for hours?
Cub culling- if you're against killing the adults, why should you not be against killing the cubs in a den? This wouldn't vastly hinder the population by itself, either. Very little point to it.
Posioning- If the fox doesn't get enough poison, it dies slowly.

-c- If peoples pets/live stock/endangered animals eat it, they'll die slowly, too.
Traps- The same as poisoning; many other creatures can fall victim to it, and traps can kill so slowly, agonizingly.
Man-Made disease- Anyone suggesting this is an idiot. It will kill /all/ foxes, because it /will/ get out of control. Hello, Miximatosis?

I am pro hunting but I wouldn't say that Miximatosis has got out of control and entirely wiped out the UK's rabbit population.

-c- FOX HUINTING- Okay, scenting out a fox can take forever, but the actual chase is only around 20 minutes. Healthy foxes can (fact) outrun hunting dogs (or find decent cover), but old or ill foxes will be taken down in killed in less then minutes. DOGS GO FOR THE THROAT TO KILL. Old or ill foxes are the ones that will cause vast damage to livestock and to endangered animals, as healthy ones can still catch their normal prey.

Unlike a lot of other creatures, the fox population can become strangling thick, because they have no natural predators. So the ill ones die slow, as do the old.
Fox hunting isn't just a tradition and way of life; if you're a true countryman, you should know it;s importance.
If you aren't a countryman at all, you should barely get to vote without knowing the facts.

I hate shooting foxes - it doesn't work. Fourteen shots! Poor fox. The old way was the best way to control the fox population and create income in the countryside. And a shout for the DSSH. Woot! I love those hounds, I wish there wasn't a big pond between us or I would live in that kennel.

It takes 1 good shot to kill a cow. A fox can be killed in 1 shot if you're a good shot. 2 if you're not. This is the best way to humanely kill pests on a farm. Fox hunting is extremely cruel

you have no fcukin idea a fox is killed in less than a second when bit by a dog however a gun can injure a fox which will lead to days of suffering ultimately leead to it dying of starvation or loss off blood which is much more painful than hving youre kneck broke

i have seen dogs kill a fox and believe me it was after 1 bite as the dog latched onto its kneck and broke it. thats a clean kill .

ive also being there with people who were shooting foxes and havent killed them cleanly and we took dogs to find the fox and we found it at least a mile away with its stomach hanging out believe is thats unfair to the fox now believe me when hunting its my full intentions to get a clean kill and dispatch the animal cleanly and quickly and ive found dogs to be the best way

YOU are the one who's absolutely mad.Have you ever SEEN a proper fox hunt with hounds?I think not.Either the hounds catch their prey and dispense of it quickly by breaking its neck or they miss entirely.They won't catch a fit fox.Guns on the other hand more often wound and lead to a horrible death by gangrene.Wake up.

dogs kill, full stop this is their purpous. guns on the other hand are useless at killing foxes and will often "break" it limb from limb. i have seen killed foxes with twisted legs or an infected side from where it has been previously hit but not killed.

Dont You people think all those dogs must be really mad now,all they can chase and bite is car tires.LOL.Come to think of it I have not seen any dogs chasing any foxes since the ban.Very good law abiding dogs.(sarcasm people I am all for hunting)Now we need to ban these animals from chasing mailmen I think its just TERRIBLE the way our postal workers are treated!!!!!!

Actually, I would take a bloodhound over a policeman any day to track a person. And I guess if I killed a farmer's whole flock of lambs and his chickens for the sheer delight of killing, then yes, I guess you should track me with hounds.

Cows are easy to kill with a gun when slaughtered properly. Foxes on the other hand are not only extremely fast, but they tend not to run in straight lines. I know about 200 hounds that can kill a fox with one swift bite. I never want a fox to have to suffer a long agonizing death from a bullet wound that does not kill instantly.

No, the other hounds are actually held back. I know on here it does look like they are getting all in, but the lead hound always gets the first bite and that is always the bite that kills. Then, the other hounds are allowed to begin biting, only and only after the fox is dead.

I understand what you see wrong with hunting. I myself prefer drag hunting. However, back to your point on 'poisioning' the fox, that area you don't seem to get. It'd actually be more painful to do that. The hounds are trained to bite at the neck first, killing the fox straight away. We yell at the dogs to encourage them to kill the fox faster so that it endures no pain. Onto your most recent comment, I hardly think calling me a 'cousin banger' is very mature.

Read all your comments. How old are you excactly? You spell like a 3 year old. I am English, I'm currently staying in Australia for a short period of time. That's really childish, refering it to getting 'sexual kicks(see how it's spelt?)' from hunting. If that is your style, then you have fun with that, but I don't. I didn't detour on your points, I just didn't think that they weren't much to talk about.

What you've said makes you pitiful. 'Kill the hunting dogs and beat the hunters to death' How does that make you wany better than the hunt? From what you're saying, you don't give a damn about the animals, you only care because someone told you the blunt facts and now you think that you're anti. Think again.
