These are the best sounding bells in the world! Those four bells are placed in the north tower of the cathedral. They have names and were donated by Napoleon III, the last emperor of France, in 1856. There is a regrettable project of replacement of those bells and my belief is that the only reason they are doing this is becouse they're dealing them in the US. The cardinal of Paris and the rector got the authorization of the Ministry of Culture to do it. See page "Save the bells" on Facebook
This church unfortunately survived both attempts to be repurposed--I think I would prefer the French Revolution version, with Lady Liberty at Mary's place on the altar.
Listen, they're beautiful, no? So many colors of sound, so many changing moods Because you know, they don't ring all by themselves - They don't? - No, silly boy. Up there, high, high in the dark bell tower lives the mysterious bell ringer. Who is this creature - Who? - What is he? - What? - How did he come to be there - How? - Hush, and Clopin will tell you It is a tale, a tale of a man and a monster.
Hey everybody. KingSimba365 here. Please do not spam this. it's true what i'm about to tell you. This morning on fox news at 8:00 I just found out that Notre Dame is the next target to terrorists :( along with the Eiffel Tower. I do not know much about what their going to do but I know there going to bomb them. so please, pray for our beloved landmarks and try not to let the same thing happen to them as it did to the twin towers in New York City. God bless.
@MxM93 I also am crazy about these bells of Notre-Dame, and I am fighting to save them from the inacceptable project of replacement. The reason, it seems too clear to me, is: money!!! They are worth a fortune, and some people confirmed that they'd being sold in the US, secretely... See my videos on this at the page "Save the bells", on Facebook. Help if you can - they are smart and got some stupid opinions by campanologists to support the authorization that was signed by Ministry of Culture
@disneygothprincess Haha! Hello Fellow Disney Lover! Who is this creature? Who? What is he? What? How did he come to be there? Hush, and Clopin will tell you. It is a tale, a tale of a man, and a monster...
@wtfomgstudios actually they said sanctuary in the movie so they could be protected by the church from the government at the time. Like the one scene where the golden knight guy says the gypsy girl says Sanctuary so she can't be harmed by the knights.
A wonderful place, but beware of the gypsy women (who ask "Do you speak English" and launch into a little spiel regardless) and the pickpockets. They work together and must not be taken at their word.
Well, that seems very judgmental. Do you know any gypsies personally or is this just stuff with strangers?
I'm touchy about gypsies, because I'm part Romanian and because it reminds me of how blacks were treated. If you replace the term "gyspsy" with "nigger" everyone would be offended. Poor guys...
When I was there, I went alone when I was 19, I learned very quickly what they were about, and acted like I spoke German, and would just say "Nein!' rather rudely. That got the point across.

I wish the cathedral would play the melody to The Hunchback of Notre Dame at least once.
