@warewolf435 The nutshell is that many of Celestia's choices can be perceived as highly questionable, and with the return and redemption of the other side of the prinicipality(Luna), Celestia should be overthrown in favor of Luna's rule. Along the way people feel like Celestia represents a more oppresive personality, and so the Solar Empire is contrasted by the Lunar Republic, a system more for the people.

Plus some nudges towards Star Wars, I imagine.
