A violin concerto in A minor? I believe there are many! (A major/minor is a very resonant key on the violin, as the tonic, dominant and subdominant are all open strings). If you're looking for a particular style, such as close to this concerto, you'd have to look at late Classical/early Romantic ones I think. If it's just A minor in general, Vivaldi for a start wrote many! There are two famous A minor concerti in his Op. 3 alone!
By the way, this slow movement is actually in G, the subdominant
Hmm, this is new to me. I never really paid attention to Beethoven's violin concerti. Probably because I'm not really a violin enthousiast (I'm sorry :p). But this is beautiful, and a great soloist!
I'm going to check out the rest of this piece and his other violin concerti. Thanks!
Hey, glad you liked it :) and yes, whether one is a violin fan or not, the intense beauty of this piece is undeniable, and ought to be more well-known. It's played here by Takako Nishizaki, my favourite violinist, released on Naxos. But regrettably, Beethoven wrote only this violin concerto :( but his piano concerti are all superb!
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw he only wrote one violin concerto. Then again, Beethoven didn't write that many concerti at all, which is a shame, the concerto is my favourite medium.
But after the 'sad' news I also find something interesting, Op. 61 a, changing the violin with a piano, it's funny hearing it played by a piano after hearing it as a violin concerto. You should check that out if you haven't already.
Yeah it is a shame, he could write virtuoso music that still retained his great lyricism. And yes, I have the complete works of Beethoven, and have heard the piano version of this several times. It's not the same as his actual piano concerti but still enjoyable!
I really like that photo of Beethoven,s portrait, do you know who painted it as i,d love a copy. Beautiful & heart-rending music!
