YouTube is my only source of income at the moment, but I'm 17, I go to school, I'm going to university next year and I don't mean to make this my career =P It's a little extra that allows me to not have to work in a supermarket or something... it's indeed ridiculous to think Youtube is going to be around forever and to quit school for it

i've been watching youtube tutorials for about 3 years now and there are TONS of people that are total crap with a gazzilion subs, I don't get it at all. And the worst thing is that they call themselves MUAs. I could name at least 10 off the top of my head.
I respect the fact that your being honest about making money alot of gurus are making money and claiming not to be..honestly if you are, you are but dont let that be the sole reason of doing your videos, once it seems like your trying to "sell" me something then I'm gonna flick the channel like it was on a bad commercial.. you know what i mean so thumbs up to you for your honesty :)
@shaneq1001 anyone who is a partner makes money. If they say they make nothing, they are lying. It may be just dollars but some make a half million per year.
My theory is that Youtube is more about personality and presentation than talent. When the beauty community first started it was easier to get noticed because there were less people doing it. Now there's a huge amount of gurus uploading videos everyday. I think people that are doing regular wearable make-up and reviews are more appealing to a large audience. Not everyone wants to be a make-up artist but tons of people want videos and ideas they can use on a daily basis.
@goldiestarling I've seen people rocket to the top acting silly and giving bad make-up advice. It's the personality not talent that gets them there. In general people want to be entertained more than educated. And it's completely sad that some of these people are dropping out of school for Youtube. Plus an incredibly bad example for their viewers.

Era is also my favorite but I really think the reason he sits at 6,000 subs is because he doesnt have a huge amount of videos and his looks are not as 'white bread' as some of the lesser artists...I don't think it has anything to do w/ merit. Thankfully. :)

My theory is that Youtube is more about personality and presentation than talent. When the beauty community first started it was easier to get noticed because there were less people doing it. Now there's a huge amount of gurus uploading videos everyday. I think people that are doing regular wearable make-up and reviews are more appealing to a large audience. Not everyone wants to be a make-up artist but tons of people want videos and ideas they can use on a daily basis.

@goldiestarling I've seen people rocket to the top acting silly and giving bad make-up advice. It's the personality not talent that gets them there. In general people want to be entertained more than educated. And it's completely sad that some of these people are dropping out of school for Youtube. Plus an incredibly bad example for their viewers.

Hi Dana I stumbled upon your channel yesterday & was blown away by your makeup artist talent & gorgeous face. You are obviously super talented & I wouldn't worry about what anybody else is doing on here...there are winners & losers in every walk of life. Love your Kat Von D rendition - you do remind me of her. Wish she hadn't starved herself tho..she is looking rough these days on her show. Much much more attractive looking when she was starting out. Anyway its good to be back home in Ontario

avalon is one year old and my lil one turned 9 months just a few days back..times flying .She reminds of the time when i was pregnant and couldnt wait to push my son out....:D.......i used to think "oh she is so lucky she is already done with her delivery and stuff!!!

I love that you don't sugar coat things for the heck of it, but instead tell it how it is. OMG i have twin girls that will be 3 on Monday, how cute. Happy Bday Avalon. 17 is my lucky #, my son was born august 17th too. Time does fly by way to fast, i enjoy my kids to the fullest as do you i am sure.

you have good points, and i have a lot of respect for you.. but you actually can make a career from youtube. shaycarl supports 4 kids and a wife from youtube.. its a great place to be and why not take advantage of the awesome opportunity to make money doing something you love? it seems like youre against everyone who has success from youtube :S and it really does sound like youre talking about elle and blair. haha

Era is also my favorite but I really think the reason he sits at 6,000 subs is because he doesnt have a huge amount of videos and his looks are not as 'white bread' as some of the lesser artists...I don't think it has anything to do w/ merit. Thankfully. :)
He also doesnt do many spoken tutorials or talk with his audience much...I've noticed this also makes a difference in the amount of subscribers a person has. Not that it should...
