  • looks like that evo had about 200bhp,it was't very quick on the straights at all

  • Awesome piece of kit & sounds amazing too :D

  • Thats a ford motor for ya! :D

  • @sugarisgoodness

    Duratec is a mazda engine

  • the evo won'd

  • the thing i love most is that the car feels like an extension to your body

you can see all the suspension and steering working

    clubmans are the greatest

    westfields, birkins, caterhams, arrows

    i love them all

but my favourite would have to be the megabusa

i wonder if anyone has used ghostrider's 500hp hayabusa gsx1300r-turbo set up in one yet?

500hp in under 500kg would be a sight to see

if no one has i'm doing it

the only thing i haven't figured out is how to get traction?

  • slicks, downforce, venturi tunnels, random gay techness and you might have win

the ariel atom with 500bhp has a lot of wings and shit on it so it might improve traction ... I still think itll wheel spin in most gears though ... haha

  • i agree, the r500 will still out do it round top gear track :) my opinion

  • SBD do a supercharged Hayabusa for any clubman Kit DaftPACman

  • @DaftPACman first time i read this i thought your favourite was the megabus haha

  • nice driving and brutal sound of a nice engine!! awsome

  • Can't be a Duratec R500, for one its not using the R500 dashboard secondly the video was uploaded 03 November 2006 and the Duratec R500 was released around August 2008.

    Nice video though.

  • Nice bit of detective work but you are slightly wide of the target. The title refers to the car's spec and does not claim that this is a current 2008 R500 as produced by the factory.

  • No, as you've spotted, this car was custom built long ago, way before Caterham offered a duratec option. In fact it was arguably the first Duratec powered caterham in the world. It had R500 power levels and also was R500 spec with those all important expensive R500 options like kevlar seats and aerofoil wishbones... hence why it is referred to as a Duratec R500.

  • Incidentally, the person who deisgned and built this car is the very same person who Caterham employed to design the engine of the current official Duratec R500 of which you speak.

You could in fact say that this car was the seed towards the current factory R500 because the designer learnt a lot from building this one and then went on to deisgn what caterham offer today. Its a small world this Caterham malarky !

  • Nice driving !

  • to be honest, althought the r500 would always kill the evo, the driver of the evo did not contribute much to the challange

  • too fast to race:)

  • Caterhams ROCKS !!!!!!!

  • 600hp evo?,i can´t believe it

  • all people focus on is Horse Power these days, its not the case! Power to weight is where it is at.

    a R500 has 520 bhp per ton and will do 0 - 100kph in 2.88 seconds.

it only weighs 506kgs, and will out run 99.9% of all cars on the road, so on the track it is nothing short of slaughter when the driver doesn't chicken out or scare him self shit less..

  • hps are more useful at high speeds

low weight is ufesul for braking, accelerate, cornering

  • i know this is a late reply but i agree with jarriano. I understand it's about power to weight, i'm a motorbike rider afterall. But that caterham passed that evo on the straight like it was standing still. My bike is 140bhp and weights 240kg including rider, 0-100 in less than 3 secs and nothing more than 10 seconds on the strip, and i couldn't pass a 600hp evo like that. I expected the caterham to win, but on the straight like that? That evo is not making 600hp.

  • So how much is one of these killas!?? Awsome! love it! better than the Caterham 5 by far!

  • Amazing to see the difference weight makes. As a father though, I can see the point of using a 600bhp Evo to get my kids to school on time ;)

  • Great driving!!! What mods on the duratec? is it the 20 or 23 duratec?

  • Caterham Seven Superlight R500

Engine: 2.0-litre Caterham Powertrain (CPT) Ford Duratec

    Max Power (bhp/rpm) 263bhp @ 8500rpm

    Max Torque (lbs ft/rpm) 177 lbsft @ 7200rpm

    Weight 506kg (516kg sequential gearbox)

    0-60mph 2.88 seconds

    Power-to-weight 520bhp-per-tonne

    Top Speed 150mph

copy/paste from the Caterham web site :)

  • Thanks Mate!

  • They are in a different league to Evos mate. Can't really compare the two. You can't get the wife, 3 kids and the shopping in the cateram can you. Compare them to radicals yes...but not 4 door saloons. When are you at oulton again?

  • awsome car.

  • Weight, baby. Weight to power ratio and the chassis is what these Caterhams are all about. And yuo also know that most Caterham owners are often pretty familiar with racing techniques.

  • if you look, he does actually back off a bit when i pass him

thats proper trackday etiquette and what you are supposed to do

having said that straight line he is still only ~400/ton versus the caterham ~500/ton. power means precious little and i have seen even just 120bhp Caterhams run circles round 300-400bhp tin tops regularly.

  • Couldn't have been a 600HP evo. No way you would have flown past him like that.

  • LOOOOOOL, cat' powa !!!

  • good clip, oulton park is a great circuit

  • awesome!!! full stop
