Reading these comments...all i have to say is everyone is entitled to their own opinion lol.....Bass is whatever u make it. It depends on different styles and tastes. In my opinion, bass is the most versatile instrument ever. You can lay guitar licks, piano chords, and still give low-end and grooves. Before u guys comment, you should review the bass and the players more often>>>
Not many people playing bass here. if you wanna play solos high up, be a guitarist. Sorry. The Gooch was laying it down hard - that's what bass is about IMHO - bottom end and groove.
Man, gospel chops vol 1 has been great, i still watch till today,
But next year i cant wait for gospel chops bass sessions vol 2 to come out, its going to be even better.
Everyone one going to be in for a real surprise, ive seen the list of some of the new bass player coming on and all of them are Amazing, from older and well accomplished to young and new and about to make it big in the industry, ahh man i cant wait, im definitely getting it.
Why did Hadrien Feraud only get 35 seconds? He's the only innovtive bassist in the video. The rest is the usual shucking I've heard 1ooo's of times. Walk into any music store and you'll hear guys playing like that. I'm not sayin' these guys aren't good, it's just Hadrien is much more advanced/
Yeah Hadrien is great... but u can't deny Gwizdala phrases and Erskine amazing groove, i respect Hadrien alot but sometimes his stuff isn't groovin' for me, but the guy can play pretty good. That is just my opinion.
Probably because he played a rubato piece and Gospelchops is obviously groove-oriented. No one would deny Feraud's incredible skill. I wouldn't read much into his relatively short segment on what is just a teaser clip.
Yes I understand that the Bass started as 4 strings but now a days the options are limitless......sometimes I wonder "If Jaco or Jamerson was still alive would they experiment a bit? while playing with 4 strings?"
The man is just insane beyond wordz...Absolute best bass player alive...The chords...The melody...The cleanliness...The accuracy...The HYPER! speed...Phenomenal musician...His musicianship is evn beyond his playing!
@grownnbass ohhhh. then yupp u r defnatly right, hes is my faviorite bass player ever!!! every thin bout his playing is beyond words just like u said, its crazy what he comes up with yet he does it so cleanly and effortlesly. the man Hadrien Feraud.
No, Im saying this video is to present bassists of a higher level than most can imagine. People expect it to be a Gospel video, and according to the producer, its not.
Its supposed to be the meeting grounds for the best gospel, fusion, and jazz bassists out there.
there is no doubt that all of these guys are amazing bass players, but the one guy that needs to be on here is not on here so I have one question...WHERE THE FUCK IS REGGIE YOUNG? Im very disappointed that you left him out.
They describe the video as the best cats of jazz and gospel style playing. I think Gospel Chops isn't totally about Gospel music, just killer players in which a lot of Gospel players are. Some of the dudes on here probably aren't even religious!
You're right, it isn't a gospel DVD. Although, I think most gospel musicians who anticipated the release of the video...wanted to see their heroes in gospel collaborate with their heroes in jazz. Those 2 genres are 2 complete different worlds. When you think of Gospel bass greats..you do think of cats like Andrew Gouche, but then you also think about Joel Smith, Reggie young, Sharay Reed, Tony Russell ..etc. These are veterans of the game. My statement wasn't meant to be perceived as judgmental.
I feel though that you guys are taking alot from some of the guys on here like justin raines and robert bubby lewis who actually do play for gospel artists. They are not legends but they are gospel bassists.
What's the name of the first song that's playing with a picture of all of them? It's Beautiful!

Damn. Who's that guy at 7:38 ? He's play a right-handed bass as if it were a left handed bass, upside down.

All unbelievable players, but that Feraud guy seems to be from another galaxy.
Those guys at 07:15 I really dig as well, unreal tightness of groove.
