For me: Noir > Madlax > El Cazador. But I think it depends what your 'first' was, that seems to be people's favourite. With Noir you essentially knew what was going on, so you could concentrate on the character's emotions, i.e. will Mireille ever forgive or warm up to Kirika. But with Madlax you had to concentrate on the plot rather than what was going through the characters' minds. Because... well. It was hard to know what anyone was thinking. I love Madlax though.

@nefersakhmet9 The setting and characters are different. I tried watching Noir, but just couldn't get into it. I love Madlax though. One of my top favorite animes.

@nefersakhmet9 The difference to me is that Noir's plot is simple to grasp, so you can sit and watch it unfold but pay more attention to what the characters are thinking. With Madlax every character is a mystery so you are often confused why everyone is behaving in a certain way. Noir is also set in a completely 'realistic' way, with real countries, i.e. France etc and no 'magical' elements. Madlax has a warped reality feel, magical books etc. It depends if you prefer realism or fantasy.

I recently watched all of Noir followed by all of Madlax and...I prefer the fighting in noir and the music/mood of Madlax. This OP just makes me feel happy. A comparison of both OP's is a clear demonstration of that difference.

Madlax is more of a sister show to Noir than an actual sequel. You have a similar premise in both shows, but they are executed differently.

It's kinda like Family Guy and American Dad. Same people, same basic premise, different execution.
