  • Quake: The brownest brown that ever browned. BROWN!

...Other than that, a damn good game.

  • Thanks for making this video =) awsome commentary! It also brought back alot of good gaming memories to me ^_^

  • Great commentary, but get a new microphone please...

  • Insanely great.

    Great commentary.

  • Hey look! 2:02 . That looks like the Origonial from Tf2.

  • @TheWookiepower Please, tell me that you are joking.

  • Quake is Still Here! Visit: Quakepc: quakepc.webs.com Anyhow- There is soooo much Ive learned and still learning about Modding,Editors,Servers and more..

  • How I love you Quake! ! !

  • Gr8 times, so many aaaah yes! i remember!....i used to play it with the Qic clan...lots and lots of frags

  • Good job,keep it up

  • 2:35 thats true. me and one of my friends are the only ones in our school who think that quake is a masterpiece

  • @kinginxyellow catacomb 3d used wolfenstein engine...plus wolfenstein was distrubted as shareware long before that game was released...but no game out there can take wolfenstein title as the origin lol its wat left to quake and the basic design of all fps games it is the grandfather of fps

  • great video

  • i was born in 1992 so i was 3 years old when this came, and shit; i missed a great game because my parents couldn't get it on years earlier, but I just bought it for the first time and i say, FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!

  • quake could be played on a 66mhz 486 with no graphics acceleration card. beat that shit.

Even though quake was the real first generation multiplayer fps, "source" is seen as the first by most people because they either didn't own a computer during quake's days or were still sucking a bottle.

  • @freaknigh Could play it... but it was one of those amazing moments in gaming history (and PC hardware) when you stuck in that 3dfx card and went OMFG because you went from 256 colours (all shades of brown) to 65,000+ and lighting effects lol. Hail the birth of true 3D and the rocket jump ;)

Games have gone so wimpy since then.

See "If Quake was done today"

  • @yourmombakespies I'd love to know what the first fps game was if it want wolfenstein because its widely known that wolfenstein was the first fps

  • @jwmpine Catacomb 3D predates Wolfenstein, and you could say that games like Alkabeth (Ultima 0) are the real origins of first person games.

  • @admiralkarelia sry history books show quake as the first game to developed ctf

  • Well said, sir.

  • Biggest leap forward in graphics, single handedly launched the 3dfx card craze...

"I've used the Darkplaces engine combined with Quake 3 textures to make something that doesn't look completely terrible"

    :/

  • We don't enjoy team-based gameplay nowadays. We "enjoy" trick shots and killstreaks. I would readily trade one Quake for a dozen of the entire CoD franchise.

  • @TheAdmiralPancake And that dozen is definitely going to be made :D

  • @LazyBastard69

The next CoD game just came out. I'll be giving it a miss unless it changes a lot.

  • well said great vid, also nice to clear up the TF mod, some of my friends assumed TFC was the first lol

  • Quake 1 above all!

  • I'm a kid but I know this started it all.

So when you said a kid would say ''What the hell is this crap'' I said

''Damn wish I was there back then''

  • @lDanteXO1l You have my sympathy, poor child! If I could share my blissful memories, I would! ;)

  • @lDanteXO1l quake didn´t started it all, it was wolfenstein, then doom and then quake, all from id software =)

  • quake TF best damn mod ever!

  • Oh boy, do I remember playing these early games! I was already an adult (I'm 68 now) and it was like I had been waiting for these games all my life. In the 60s there were articles in Scientific American that tried to describe future computer games. We didn't have the words to describe them. They would be 'like being in a movie with you as the protagonist.' 'Players' actions will determine the plot of the movie.' 'You will be outdoors, but hear background music change depending on your actions.'

  • @Axgoodofdunemaul I will never forgot what a thrill I got when I realized (around 1994) that the bots in Doom had a life of their own while I wasn't watching them; this was when I caught one crossing another part of the map to get to the place where it always appeared as I was crawling the dungeon. I have told the psychotherapists at the VA that I feel that the FPS games I have played since the beginning have helped my Vietnam PTSD.

  • @Axgoodofdunemaul Most recently my favorite game is BFBC2 the PvP shooter. When I first started playing it I would jump out of my chair when I got shot, and I would feel very bad when I killed another player. Lately, these painful feelings have mostly gone, from sheer repetition. I'm less jumpy and depressed, and I now have the 'it's only a game' attitude that non veterans have. Maybe this is bad or good, I don't know, but I know I am better suited to live in the everyday world now.

  • @Axgoodofdunemaul Sorry about this long comment. I put it in thinking it might help other veterans, and also because I would like to praise the amazing artwork and thinking of this new form of art. Nothing like it has ever existed before. Young people are lucky to have it. My comments might make more sense if you read them backwards, in the order I wrote them. Good luck and blessings, and good gaming, to all.

  • cant believe tf2 came from quake. pretty impressive.

  • Actually the first FPS was in 1974.

  • @YourMomBakesPies he never said it was the first

  • @TechXMarine

0:16 - "Being the godfather of all FPS's."

  • @YourMomBakesPies pretty sure he meant online multiplayer fps's

  • @YourMomBakesPies pretty sure he meant online multiplayer fps's

  • Quake is King

  • Nice commentary, you rule.

  • Quake > HL1 > Half life 2

    QWTF > TFC >TF2

it actually kinda is the grandfather of games

  • @esh325 no. you got it wrong, i meant the > to be a right arrow not a greater than

  • can you play this on windows 7 (with source ports)? and is darkplaces a mod or a source port?

  • Sad that nobody play's this game anymore... anyone want to have a classic deathmatch with me? whoever dose, PM me. we will start a revolution and bring players back to quake!

  • Great review love Quake and the expansions

  • So Quake Threewave CTF was the first objective based team multiplayer mode in FPS history?

  • @F3rgul That's an interesting challenge, find one that predates it.

  • @Zhakaron Both Descent and Descent II had team-based multiplayer modes including CTF, and both predate Quake, though Descent II only predates Quake by about three months.

  • quake one was one of the best games ever made

  • this makes me wish team fortress never died

  • When the next episode will come?

  • @jopeteus ENEMY TERRITORY QUAKE WARS

  • The best quake was Quake 1 where it had a more demonic feel. Quake 3 was also a great game and really started the professional gaming era.

Quake 2 and Quake 4 were both good, but the first Quake and Quake 3 were the best imo.

  • @Andthatswhymacssuck

You cant or atleast you should modify some packs but no one is playing TF on quake 1.

If you want to play quake 1 TF the only way is to download quakeworld which is a new quake 1 MP client and run it with darkplaces after you have done that go multiplayer and browse servers and search for any servers that have TF in their name and play it everything will be downloaded auto from the server.

I know that TF coop is played daily where you kill quake monsters TF style (classes)

  • @PhreakStep I've actually already found out how to play the intro in DarkPlaces already, did about a week after I posted that comment

  • Great commentary

  • Nostalgic.

    Great video. Great commentary

  • Behind what Quake 1 itself did, even few realize the history of Threewave CTF, which was also a huge influence on all future FPS games. I just recently posted some CTF bot example game play videos check them out if you want. I am also organizing to revive regular Q1CTF games online. If interested, check the link to the Steam group in my videos.

  • Awesome Video. I think it is a really good thing to have these "Gaming History" videos, because the truth of the history is not being properly recorded and quickly forgotten. I 100% agree that Quake 1 is the King and Grandfather of FPS games. ALL FPS games owe more to Quake 1 than most people realize.

  • I liked the Navy Seal mod for the game. Oh those were the days. 1st night I played it with the NIN soundtrack... my speakers fell off the monitor and scared the piss outta me! I think I failed an english quiz the next day because I forgot to study, played this game so much that 1st night.

WOW.. true 3d, that was the shit back then. Kidz are so spoiled these days.
