The thing about Microprose was you always got huge manuals with lots of information, of they included a huge database in-game. Looking back, not only did I have a good time playing games like Gunship, Pirates and Darklands, I actually learned about modern warfare, 17th century Caribbean history and the 15th century Holy Roman Empire!
I played this game a LOT all those years ago! Never thought I'd see it again. Thanks for including the music for each army; those really burned into my head - I still find myself whistling the prussian theme sometimes!
@Imperator88vis Heh. If anyone's interested, the names of the themes are Lilli Burlero, La Victoire Est A Nous, and Yorkscher Marsch. Discovered their names by accident over the years, and now they're inextricably stuck in my head even more so than the MIDIs from FOG.
@Arbie8327 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! As familiar to me as they are I never knew (or bothered to find out) the names to these three themes!!! I would have never have guessed any of those names in a million years. They don't seem to match. Especially the British one. but you never know
@Imperator88vis I should add that the British one has a wide variety of spellings. Lillibullero, Lillibulero (one L), Lilly Bolero, etc. It might be why you may or may not be having trouble finding good clips of it. It was in the Kubrick film Barry Lyndon at one point! Do a search for "Lilliburlero March - British Grenadiers - Barry Lyndon" if you want to hear that excellent recording.
I was 13 when I got this... I remember late nights re-fighting quatre bra.. wish my cd32 laser didn't die out on me... I think i still have the manual lol good times :)
and thanks for the "lilliburlero" hint! After all the years now I know the name of this superb march/song. :)
the french song is "La Victoire est à Nous"
and the prussian song is the Yorksche Marsch
I have to agree with baldilox219: N:TW has a good gameplay, but the scale of the battles is awesome bad... walking with 6 "armies" to moscow... with 60.000 men in total and playing in battle only with 10.000 men? thats so sad...
I miss this game. I wish they would update this game. Total war is somewhat close but the SCALE of the battles are what i liked. I would spend hours on these battles when i was a kid. Oh memories...
Do you still have the passwords for this game? I've lost mine and can't find it on the net.

@HardWarUK I seem to remember when we did this that it was the most complete electronic database on the fighting units and commanders of the era.

I think everyone who avidly played this 'suffers' from these songs being burned into our heads. But rather enjoy it.

I remember that I had a problem with my cannons limbering up and charging people, but the game was awesome.

Anyone know what the prussian song is called ?

@KaiserMikael
I've been searching for the song for some time as well.
It's "Marsch des Yorck'schen Korps" von Ludwig van Beethoven.

but realistically there is no way you can micromanage 70,000 men in one battle in NTW, plus it would probably eat up your prcoessor and memory speeds
