  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ME and this dude share the same name. That's wild.

  • Unbelievable story - touched my heart and my children too. Reminds you that there are still truly kind people in the world. Given what he's been through and to remain such a kind and generous person, really speaks about the strength of the human spirit. Thank you David for sharing your story and I can't wait for the release of your Dave's Signature Beyond Gourmet jelly beans!!!!

  • One of the most interesting and heartfelt documentaries I've seen in years. David Klein's story could be set on Wall Street or anywhere in the upper echelons of American capitalism— it's only that much more compelling set in the world of jellybeans. David is a survivor and an inspiration. This film is a must see for anyone interested in the more dynamic colors (and flavors) of American character.

  • Meet the inventor of Jelly Belly jelly beans | Candy Blog

    blog.candy.com

Described as “the true blue Willy Wonka,” “eccentric,” an “oddball,” and a “savant,” David Klein, I recently found out, is all of these things,

  • This is why the documentary was made----# 1973 Hershey becomes the first candy company to offer ingredients and nutritional information on wrappers

    # 1976 Herman Goelitz Company introduces individually-flavored jelly beans called Jelly Belly

    # 1976 Hershey decides to tweak the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and offers a version with peanuts called Reese's Crunchy

    # 1977 Hershey introduces a new variation of the "Great American C

  • "When David says at the beginning of the movie the Jelly Belly Jelly Beans ruined his life. I couldn't imagine how. That was a great way to start it out because I just had to find out what he meant. What I learned was that he appeared to be a kind man that loved to contribute to the community with his candy creations. He was like a real life Willy Wonka. How his life takes many turns and were he eventually ends up, certainly doesn't seem fair. "

  • Sorry I meant to say business sense not business cents....Need to take a refresher course in spelling.

  • He did have the idea and got paid real nice! Has a brilliant mind with candy but no business cents! My CEO put up everything. The factory, money, research and development, workers, and the big risk if it failed!

  • @90Irocem It is awesome that you are sticking up for your employer but you need to know a few more facts....When I approached your employer he already had a factory and all the equipment to make the beans...So there was not much risk on his part. I paid him 59 cents per pound for the beans until I called him up and told him to go up 10 cents per pound....You are right I did not have much business cents because I cared too much about their welfare.

  • @sandycandydad T^his is the Candyman....I just read your email and when I replied it came back to me....Could you please send me an email to sandycandydad@yahoo.com so that I can reply? Thanks so much david

  • The CEO Herm Goelitz gave this man $20,000 every month for 20 years! Now he was breaking this guy off in early 80's!! With that type of money is this day and age I could be good! He's just broke now. Poor fella. :-(

  • Possibly a decent documentary, but the trailer is lame. Doesn't make me want to watch it.

  • Just finished watching this. what an amazing man!

  • Haha thats funny, erased... How dramitic... He could of not taken the money that the company paid him, hell he could of told them NO to the contract as well... but he didnt... the company had the right to do whatever they wanted with the history after he signed the contract... the movie is not accurate. Remember who fronted all of the Money, Science oh and MACHINERY to make the Jelly Bean, the Company did... Thankfully the folks in the real candy industry know the true story.. Cheers!!

  • @comet3onthetre Dave Klein here. This is America. You have a right to your opinion. So in your opinion history can be changed to suit the ego of the buyer. What a strange concept. What is the difference between this and telling lies? Why are you so bitter? Any idea of the hundreds of people I have helped get started in business? Never took a dime for myself in exchange for the help. What have you done to better the world?

  • This is the Candyman. Candyman:the David Klein Story is now streaming on Netflix.......Oh by the way our new liine of beyond gourmet jelly beans is called David's Signature and it is the first jelly bean good enough for me to put my name on it.

  • Why would you be so angry that you helped create such an iconic piece of candy? let alone the brand that it has become today?

  • @comet3onthetre watch the doc and u will see why... company robbed him of his destiny. Thy erased him from the history of the company .

  • Saw David on tv tonight and he inspired me to keep coming up with new idea's for my birdhouses and hopefully with the right marketing I may hit on something. Really liked the way he looks at life.

    Thanks Bill

  • Candyman will be playing at the FREE Range festival and is also available at Amazon.com Item number B003VSL57A

  • he invented the sandy candy. my aunt introduced him to me so i visit him alot in the factory we r very close -angela

  • What's the name of the song that plays during the second half of the trailer? It's just perfect.

  • @mikescholtz

The song is an original composition called "My Own Line", written and performed by Tom McLeod. Tom reorded it just days before we finished the trailer. It will be available for mp3 download via Tunecore and Amazon by mid to late February. Thanks for the nice comments. The trailer does not lie, promise!

  • Wow. This trailer is mesmerizing. I can't stop watching it. Really looking forward to seeing the movie.

  • what was the deal? they couldn't even license the candyman can song?

  • We are saving that for Candyman # 2

  • Slamdance January 24, 2010 and January 28, 2010

  • Yes the one and only Weird Al is in the documentary

  • Is that Weird Al at the end of the trailer? I friggen love that guy!!!!

  • @crayonstory

yes, that is Weird Al. He did us a huge favour and appeared in the movie out of the goodness of his great big heart. He could be a candyman too, he's so sweet.

  • Awesome! Lots of my friends call me the candyman, but I doubt I can live up to David.

I can't wait to see this film! I hope it's made available online. :D

  • Can't wait to see the whole story of the "Candyman" , looks wonderful, great trailer!
