  • Another great job Carl, I always look forward to the next video. Thanks for what you do for us fans !

  • I just found your channel, even though i dont do any woodworking, but i love to watch your vids.

  • What brand chuck is that? I have a One Way but I like that one better.

  • Hey Carl, What kind of dust collection do you use, and what horsepower?

  • Ive tried the hot-melt glue method twice now with no success. I think my glue may have been too old. It's been in the gun at least fifteen years. I recently found some slow-setting glue. I will be giving it a try soon. I'll keep you posted on how it works for me. Awesome bowl!

  • @BradburyGuy You have to use alot of glue, I use about a whole stick every time i use the hot glue to mount something to a waste block. I dont know why so many people have problems with it not working. I have used the hot glue countless times and have never had it fail. I have never even had the wasteblock fail. Before using the hot glue, allow the glue gun to heat up awhile.

  • @JPFWoodWorks Thanks for the tip. I allowed my glue gun to heat up longer and used more glue as you suggested, and it worked great!

  • @BradburyGuy Guy, just to add a further thought, some glue guns are a bit low on wattage and take forever to get the glue to a suitable working temperature, Arrow make a 100 w model,The TR550 model, not sure if it is available there, but they work very well.

  • @BradburyGuy First I love your videos too, good and funny as well. I think you are right about the glue, it may not be a age issue but may instead be the way the glue was made back then. I don't know for a fact that the glue making process went through any changes over time but it could be. It could also be that the gun isn't getting the glue hot enough perhaps. I got a glue gun from Woodcraft a couple months back and just started using it and I am very happy with the way it holds.

  • very very very good..

  • Amazing work, I will like to know how you finish the cocobolo wood. Some friend said to me with mineral oil or varnice.

  • Hi. You've just earned a subscriber, these works are amazing.

  • @TheRealGeriBoss Thank you,

  • Really amazing finished project. Your vids are making me seriously consider getting a lathe with my tax return this year!

  • @beefknuckles I think that would be a wise investment.

  • Carl, please mention the lathe speed used on your projects

  • @raymondcrevis his lathe speed is usually around 2000Rpm after truing the blanks up, (it was mentioned before in another video so I thought I'd pass it along).

  • @hpmedghalchi Yes, on the next bowl, I will move it over a little.

  • @hpmedghalchi Decorative purposes. I would put a salad bowl finish if I was going to use it for food.

  • Beautiful JOB! How do yo like the Delta now that you have had it a while?

  • @phooesnax I have had no problems, running nice and smooth.

  • Another beautiful piece! Thanks for the inspiration. I might actually attempt a bowl finally!

  • I like your vids but you should really think about putting a camera on the right side of the lathe when turning bowls.

  • top video again keep em comeing SWEET LATHE

  • If some of you dont like the ads on youtube, there is an add-on for Firefox users called Adblock which makes the ads go away..

Nice work on the bowl mate

  • WOW what a nice piece. I wonder how it would have looked with many coats of a High Gloss Lacquer finish. Again what a pretty piece of wood and nice project. Good Job Carl!!!

  • Beautiful work. I'm a big fan. I'm just getting into woodworking, and am really considering a lathe for my shop also. Love to watch, so pretty sure I would love to create as well. Any recommendations or adivce? Keep up the amazing work

  • @jdubb1265 Thank you. I don't think you would be disappointed, the lathe is a very creative tool to use. I got the new Delta 46-460 for Christmas and am very pleased. But, if you were looking to do spindle work or chair legs you would need to get a full size lathe.

  • amazing peace lovely wood

  • wow that bowl looks awesome . Thanks for a great video , appreciate it , always learning something

  • BRAVO

  • Hey Carl, great video once again and a lovely piece of wood indeed! Just wanted to say I wish you would put the little intro you had on your older videos into your new ones! It was a nice touch and I love the tune!

    Cheers

    Anthony

  • @Noobular4 Thanks Anthony.Maybe I will work on something.

  • Hey, it looks like you waxed it after taking the edges off with the bandsaw. Am I seeing that correctly?

    Thanks

    John

  • @1979Iceman No, I did not wax it. It just looks that way.

  • Hi Carl, Having just seen your latest video on bowl making, I think it would have been nice if you had moved the camera to show the stock removal of the inside.

It in nice to see that you have a new lathe, keep up the good work.

  • @Boultonful Thank you, I'll move the camera on the next bowl.

  • Carl...that is one beautful bowl, fantastic grain, the turning wasn't too bad either....:)

  • I know you are happy to have a new lathe. I enjoy your videos and so subscribe to them.

I am a turner and enjoy watching others in this art/craft. What type camera do you use? And, does it have remote control?

    Thanks

    Bert

  • @bert1383 Thank you Bert, i use a Panasonic Lumix. It doesn't have a remote but I love the camera.

  • Another great video. Thanks, as ever, for taking the time and effort to share your ideas.

  • I didn't watch the video and I will never watch your videos. As a woodturner I get on YouTube to watch woodturning videos as enjoyable down time. The first thing that comes up is a damn Obama campaign ad. I don't care who you like politically. Politics has no business heading up turning videos.

  • @sawdust4988 WOW!!! Like I have control over the ads on YouTube. You might stop and think before you comment.

  • @sawdust4988.... YO, Sawdust, give us all a break. The ad's of YouTube are placed by YouTube, and have NOTHING to do with the person posting the video.

These days political ad's are controlled by MONEY -- whoever spends the most money gets the most exposure. Thanks to the idiotic Citizen's United decision by the supreme court, we now have Super PAC's which can place nasty attack ads anywhere they wish, without limits. Get an ad blocker so you can enjoy YouTube.

  • Nice new lathe!!!

  • Hi Carl. This one turned out really nice. Don't they use cocobolo for either nightsticks or pool cues? Think so. My wife looked over shoulder just now and asked me if I was watching my woodturning porn again. Hehe. Real nice round edge on that bowl btw. Fits really good with the shape of it.

  • @HawkSig Yes, I think they use it for pool cues, I am not night sticks. It sounds like you are spending a little to much time on the wood turning forums. LOL :)

  • hi Carl that wood has some amazing figure in it nicely turned as always

    Take care

    Robbie

  • @robbiethewood Thanks Robbie. Yes, this is an amazing piece of wood.

  • Thanks again Hayden. You are correct about the wood & the finish.

  • What are you using to sand with?

  • @mrsawdust01 paste wax and mineral oil.

  • Very nice piece of wood and nice bowl..... Thanks for sharing...

  • Excelent!! i always watch your videos too. Very nice, thanks Hayden!!! Marcos from Argentina..

  • Wow, that is amazing! The wood is stunning, and I love the shape of the bowl!

  • Beautiful

  • Love it. I always watch your videos. I have a question....is it ok to put the paste wax on a bowl as it is not food safe. I know you coated it with beeswax but won't that melt off when you wash the bowl? Do you mind watching my video and give me some tips. Thanks. Search turning a Tigerwood Bowl.

  • @loyalistman The beeswax is food safe, but if I was going to turn like a salad bowl to use for food, I would use salad bowl finish. This is a nice durable finish.

  • The new lathe is sure quieter!

    - Alan

  • Beautiful bowl. I am a new turner and enjoy your simplistic approach to your projects. Anyway to video your technique of working the inside of the bowls? Thanks for sharing your passion with us.

  • @backpacker3225 Next time I do a bowl, I will move the camera.

  • nice looking bowl cocobolo is a really nice wood to turn thankfully I don't have any side effects from working with it

  • that was fun to watch Carl! thanks for your energy! hey, that's a nice lathe too! didn't even stall at all... I might get one too :)

    cheers, jake

  • @paloarteinc Thanks Jake, It's nice and quiet too.

  • Nice job...

Nice choice of positioning the blank...

The eye on the side of the bowl was spectacular...

    Thanks for the video.

  • @packy046 Thank you,

  • Howdy Carl, You said it right. That is a beautiful piece of wood. But you turned it into a piece of art. I just got a new bowl gouge and it's still too cold for me to go out there in the shop. I really do need to get some heat out there. Thank you for the video. (Tom)

  • @carr869 Thanks Tom,

  • I love the bowl and yet again a great viedo....Thanks for the ideas............Doug

  • Beautiful bowl! Thank you for the video. By the way, from the video that lathe sounds amazingly quiet.

  • Great video ...

  • It seems like you only turn smaller items. I have turned some pretty big pieces on my delta (same one as yours) and it works great. Why dont you turn some bigger items? Also i apprecieate the suggestion of using the hot glue. It makes life alot easier! So far I have not had a problem with the waste block blowing up on me while using the hot glue. You should tell people that you can never use too much of it. The more the marrier. I usually go through one 4 inch stick of hot glue per glue-up.

  • so its a coco-bowl-o? (sorry, couldnt resist)

  • @DougFnDrake LOL!

  • Beautiful bowl, Carl. Don't you just love working with cocobolo? There's such a variety of grain patterns and colors, you never know what you'll end up with until you're finished turning.

    Larry

  • @Larenzoid Yes just amazing I had no idea this was inside the block

  • VERY NICE COCOBOLO BOWL I ENJOY WATCHING YOUR VIDEO I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTION I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU. WHAT SIZE IS THE BLOCK OF COCOBOLO WOOD? WHAT SIZE IS THE SPINDLE GOUGE THAT I SEEN YOU USE IN YOUR VIDEO'S? I BEEN TURNING FOR SIX MONTHS I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO IN THE SPINDLE GOUGE THANK YOU

  • @1100BIGGIES Hi the block of Cocobolo was 3x5x5 I started with. I used a bowl gouge for this project but my spindle gouge is 3/8

  • Great looking bowl the beeswax made it shine.

  • WOW...Just beautiful....I have been watching patiently for you next video. I made some tulips and will be posting them on my facebook page.....Thanks for taking time to post videos!! I really enjoy them.

    Patricia :)

  • @samoftheforest Thank you Patricia,

  • Hi Carl. Great bowl. Even I said wow when the bowl first stopped and showed off it's pattern.

I wanted to mention that when I use the hot glue I also use my heat gun on it because I don't have a heated shop, so if anyone is still having trouble with the glue holding well they should try it.

I'm wondering what grits of sand paper you use?

  • @LordMikkell Thanks for the tip, I start with 180,220,320,400,600

  • Beautiful wood :)

  • Hi Great work Im just getting started and like your work very much. I have the old lathe like your old one and am thinking about a new one

keep up the great work Jim

  • Really beautiful Carl.

    Leonard

  • @MrLeonard55 Thanks Leonard,

  • Hi Hope POPFORD meant GREAT as this certainly isn't one for the fireback. Excellent video as usual.

  • What speed are you using when you carved out the inside?

  • @ElephantRover About 2,200 rpms

  • What a beautiful little bowl. Grate Job as always.

    Richard....

  • beautiful wood

  • Ok...where did you get such a great piece of cocobolo? I've never seen grain like that in all the pieces I've ever gotten. Beautiful doesn't come close to describing that little bowl. Guessing 3x5x5 stock. Great job as always.

  • @txtaz88 I got it at Woodcraft and yes 3x5x5. I know I've turned a lot of Cocobolo and this piece has by far the best color and grain.

  • where have you been you havnt posted in so long : /

  • @ballsackTbager I have been posting almost everyweek. Maybe there is a glitch in YouTube.

  • It was good to see you use the beeswax, I've not been putting enough on when applying it! Thanks!

  • just great !!

  • wow that is great looking cocobolo

  • how about a video of your shop?

  • A very beautiful tree and your new lathe is so quiet ...

    Wonderful video! Thank you.

    Greetings from Ukraine.

    George.

  • @inoctuae Thank you George,

  • Nice work, the bees wax really helps

  • It's beautiful.

  • Great video!

  • great bowl! looks fantastic.

  • Wonderful

  • that grain is beautiful! where do you get this wood from?

  • @kajamikko I picked it up at Woodcraft

  • is this spalted or just natural grain like zebrawood?

  • @psychomikeo500 Just the natural grain,

  • new lathe?

  • @Alessio1242 Yes I got it for Christmas.

  • is cocobolo soft or hard wood?

  • @danielcarmi305

It is a hard wood, it is a Rosewood as well. and roughly $40.00 USD a board foot.
