That umpire needs to realize that sometimes, getting run over is what comes with that position. That play did not warrant a flag, and certainly did not warrant an ejection.

I agree with Lem 4037 - not for football, but I have reffed for a few sports and in all of them you are considered part of the area of play - if a player accidentally runs into you, that's your fault for not being aware enuf of your surroundings to get out of the way. You can only penalize players for deliberate actions against a referee.

As an official, I disagree with the umpire. You are considered part of the field of play. Getting run over, especially at the umpire position, is one of the hazards of the job. There is a reason that this guy is doing minor league football and you just witnessed it. He was not objective and took it personal. Bad call, bad decision, and terrible lack of leadership by the referee to allow that call to stand.
