  • i havent ventured into music creation since the early logic audio days. This is just amazing stuff!

  • Your vidz are very informative. I'm just starting out with Sonar. What is "Swing?" I don't know a lot of these terms. I'm a long long time guitar and bass player. I always wanted to play drums when I was a kid but my parents said I'd drive them nuts. I'm 62 now so I can play drums with SD3.

  • @MrNocaster1 if u need any help message me

  • terrible TERRIBLE piece of clunky over blown software, lol you know its bad when it takes 15 minutes before you can even make music.

    Sack of shit.

  • Whats swing?

  • So inspiring!

  • Awesome. Great audio commentary, very helpful information, and very good software in general! :)

    Keep those tutorials/lessons comin'!

  • Yo..this video series is MASSIVE! I was a hardcore FL user for years, and I just started forcing myself to learn the trio of SD & Session Drummers to make beats. I actually have a full fledged Grestch kit in my studio, and I had been toggling between tracking live or programming the beats. This info is a TREMENDOUS help and is saving time/money on multiple ends by giving insight on how to make realistic rythms that don't sound hollow or robotic. Big Ups!

  • Actually I've been using FL Studio for a few years and I just ordered Sonar X1 and this looks to be by far more easy and sophisticated than FL. The workflow is very smooth, and the edit functions are great... Can't wait to see part 4,5. Thanks!!!

  • This is far to over complicated for something that should be simple. I also don't seem to have the flexibility to be able to manipulate the wav's of the drums like I can in FL. This is almost a requirement when using 808's and such.

Again, something simple you guys have made way, way to complicated to the point it is getting in the way of my creativity. Just take a step back and watch these videos and look what needs to be done to get a simple drum loop. Listen to this customers feedback.

  • How do you RECORD???

i have seen a bunch of Videos that demonstrate how awesome this is, but nothing that says " click this to record what Session Drummer 3 is Playing"

How do you record the Drum Track??

  • Is it possible to load any other drum samples right into the SD3 ? I love the way it works in conjuction with Sonar, everything is so simple and easy. Greetings

  • What is that keyboard button in the far right corner of the Session Drummer window, down the row from the step sequencer button? I'd like to be able to freely control each kit piece using the computer keyboard. Is that keyboard button of any relation to what I want to do?

  • @dimelives1 That's for taking the focus of the QWERTY keyboard and pinning it to a particular plugin. It's for typing, though, not for using your QWERTY keys as MIDI keys.

  • @CakewalkSoftware Can you also pin your QWERTY keyboard to MIDI keys?

  • Thanks for these drum series of video's.There very understanding of how to do things. It took me 4-5 months to learn this stuff. This video series made it 4hrs to learn these new tips/and how too's to make better drum patterns. thanks. Make some more video's on other parts of sonar's powerful features. thanks

  • VERY GOOD Step Sequencer break down! However I do agree with OriMeissa about the velocities, it takes some time getting use too..

  • Thanks for posting this series. You guys are the only reason I still have Windows on any computer!

In the Step Sequencer, I do miss adjusting single note velocities by simply selecting the note and dragging up or down, as found in Project5 (which I have) or Kinetic. It might not seem like a big deal, but it put me off using the Step Sequencer for quite a while.

However, saying that, the step probability function and individual part swing, time shift etc do compensate somewhat :)

  • @OriMeissa Hold Ctrl and you can drag up and down to adjust note velocities without having to open up the lane ;-)

  • @CakewalkSoftware Did I also mention that I love you guys..... :) lol

  • @OriMeissa --It can be much more straight forward to just put your drum tracks together in the Piano Roll View. Record them with a keyboard, pads, or triggered drum, and edit in the PRV. There you can do all the tweaking of velocities you want. The Step Sequencer is way primitive in comparison.

  • @lowtide41 Actually, editing CC data for a particular note is much easier in the Step Sequencer. In the Piano Roll they are stacked for all notes in a given time, but in the Step Sequencer each row, or sound, can be tweaked independently. And tweaking specific rows with time shift, swing, etc, is much faster in the Step Sequencer as it is a turn of a knob instead of selecting a note range and opening a Quantize or Time Shift menu.
