  • I'm 21 but i used to sing this song when i was in the 2rd grade because i was madly in love with my teacher hehe

    ohhhh the memories :)

  • I was born 1950,lived through that period of music and into the 60s.Great music from these years and in answer to an earlier post about the Beatles. No the beatles never ended the rock n roll days with their music .I believe they actually preserved those wonderful tunes as we can go back over and oven again via youtube.I,m lost in the 50s and loving it.Hotrods ,wing tips, bowling shirts and great music.

  • That sax just nails this song. Classic!

  • Composer Charles Strouse went on to write Broadway musicals like Bye, Bye Birdy and Annie.

  • The record was discovered and promoted by the late great DJ Bobby Dale.

  • patience and prudence should be in the ROCK&ROLL HALL OF FAME THEY NEVER GOT THE BREAK THAT WENT TO OTHERS AND NOT TO THEM VERY SAD

  • thnx poster, this i class xx

  • Being as an Asia music lover, I listened this song from the radio and caught my ears ever since I was 12 years or back in 1967. Thanks for uploading, one of my most favourites.

  • As an 18 year old in 58 - these songs were killers. Great - Graham- Melb - Aus

  • My twin sister and I used to sing this when we heard it on American Bandstand back in 1958.

  • I was born too late , should have been a teen in the early 60's ......

  • Me too! I'm only 13, but I wish I could have been a teen back then- they had such cute, snappy, fun songs.

  • "It's a message song. Lots of girls fall in love with an older guy"

Oh yes, they do. One of my favourites for that reason. And the harmonies are perfect.

  • @HarrietVane I believe they are from Cleveland Ohio

  • I'd like to dedicate this little number to Bob Dylan.

  • I never tire of this song, love it!

  • MY ROLLLAAA! BUMP IT!!!

  • Some how I can't help to get melancholic about times past. I was born in 67 and feel a deep feeling of regret about not being there.

  • To me, this is the perfect song. Not just of the 50's but of all time.

  • To all of the girls in Cincinnati i knew from 1958 thur 1962 and i never returned. This song is for you. Jody.

  • I agree that music is totally garbage now and it occured in 1964 went the beatles came in they not only destroyed the great teen music in england at the time but changed our innocent music here in the states the only good music left after 1964 was sweet soul

  • @doowopjeff777 The Beatles "destroyed great teen music in england at the time"? You obviously have no grasp of the British scene prior to their EXPLOSION on UK . Take the trouble to look up the UK charts of 62. Top UK seller that year was Frank Ifield! I thought so. Who? Well he was! 62 must have been the worst year for music since 54. When The Beatles broke through it all changed. They set the scene on fire! They were completely new & yet they embraced RnR too magnificent

  • The first 78 I owned...still have it

  • I have the 45. This is the first time I'm hearing it in stereo. Nice.

  • Born at exactly the right time in 45,to take in the likes of this and the 60s and 70s,am I lucky or what?

  • Reminds me of someone.

  • All-time slow dancin Late 50's classic, from a simpler & better time. I know, I was there--11 y/o when this one came out, & I sang along every time. Wolfsky9

  • I WAS BORN IN 1958 I LOVE THIS SONG THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT. BRINGS BACK A LOT OF GOOD MEMORYS.

  • A million thanks to The LimePopsicle for posting.I had forgotten all about this masterpiece.Im 58,so remember it well,You made an old man,not really, very happy

  • this is the 45 version...no background voices on the last verse. Only the album version had that.

  • This is my favorite female group vocal song from the 1950s and sonically one of the superior rock n' roll recordings of the time. Some of the vocal chords the Poni-tails hit give me chill bumps, especially that last one.

  • This was the nifty 50*s... Thanks YouTube for bringing it back...

  • So beautiful and I'm an gen x'er.

  • An outstanding 1950s song. Immortal and timeless, as so many songs of that era were and are. This recording is almost 54 years old at the time of this writing. It will still be avidly listened to and cherished by millions 54 years from now. :-)

  • @doorswhofan I could not have said this better myself.

  • Should be remembered always, induct into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame !

  • @radr4lf12 Right on, it's about time they got the respect they deserve! The Poni-Tails are one of the pioneers of the girl group sound, not to mention that this song appeals to all generations. I think it's the most popular record I've ever posted.

  • @TheLimePopsicle Forgot about this one! we had this on a 78rpm record

years ago - fantastic to hear it again , many thanks for posting

  • @TheLimePopsicle I was a teenager at the time this and all the other great songs were out. This song has it all, arrangement, great voices and the style for the time. I had a special blonde girl friend at the time and she was actually a little young for me so Born too late really nailed me. Gary

  • This song is lovely, lovely and lovely even more. I love this song a lot, when i presents it to my ex-girlfr. she fell's in love's also with this song. I guess, it's one of the best songs of all time....................

  • THANK YOU FOR SAYING THE VERY SAME AS I HAVE ALWAYS SAID - EXCEPT YOU PUT IT LOT BETTER! YES WE HAVE TURNED UGLY INSIDE AND OUT! ALL FORMS OF ART, APPEARANCE OF PEOPLE, WAY OF THINKING AND BEHAVING - THIS USUSLLY HAPPENS AFTER WARS, NOT WE JUT HAD 60s FLFOWER POWER TO DO THIS, THEN THE SUBSEQUENT HEDONISTIC YEARS. INAUSTERITY, PEOPLE ARE NICER, STRIVING TO IMPORVE THEMSELVES AND THEIR ENVIRONMENT - IN GOOD TIMES ONLY TURN TO HEDONISM. YOU THINK I AM A RELIGIOUS CONVERT AND BIGOT, NOT AT ALL!

  • Great record!!!!!

  • Adrianjanzen was married to a Mexican. Her kids are half black though.

  • @MarcfromTreasureNet1 UGH... that really made my day !

  • 50's rock and roll at its finest! Great post!

  • why does all the music i have ever heard seem so lame after listening to this?

  • This takes me back to Virginia Ave in Danbury Connecticut where we would hang out back in the day!

  • 3 people weren't born at all....

  • What harmony....!!!!

  • I loved this piece the very first time I heard it back late 50's early 1960. As a child I was enchanted by the way the sax would come in and out between the lovely harmonized vocals. I have to agree with the statement that this piece stands out among many other great 50's tunes.

  • This was a great song. I used to sing it when I was around 12 and had a crush on an "older man" who must have been all of 17. He barely knew I was alive of course.

  • I got hold of a vinyl 45 of this -- many happy memories of school dances

  • The best female trio of the late 50's early 60's? The Poni Tails were the best by far Toni Cistone, Laverne Novack, and the late Patti McCabe what voices! They truly were gods gift to the music world!

  • @MagicGary1960 And I dont want to forget also original member Karen Topinka also?

  • I was 14 in '58 and we guys loved this song, not because it was so great, we didn't dance to fast music. We were too "cool" for that. lol It was these slooow songs that we would look for "that" girl to dance with. Yes, we were a little crazy back then too. It really is a great song and brings back wonderful memories of a time long gone and people lost in time.

    Thanks for posting.

  • The summer after high school graduation (1960 in Cleveland) I was 17 and dating a 24-year old guy who lived on my street. He had an older married brother, and I had a secret crush on him. His name was Al, and I always associated this song with him. This song hit #7 on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1958.

  • Can you believe this? I'm listening to this in Oct 2011 :)

  • @hannahnguyen12 yes i can believe it... so am i... are we sad?

  • @zmileyman oh yeah~ perhaps!

  • the guy on the sax is the bollocks

  • @domo mom 15, baby doll you werent born too late, you just know real music!!!

  • I was 12 years old when this song came out..was a caddy at Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis, In ..I was at the caddy shack when it came on the Radio...Those were great innocent times...forever gone but in our memories..

  • This song is so relevant

  • the girl who lived next door to me "was in love with me" the day i got married her Mum told her according to her(the girls Mum) she ran upstairs and cried her heart out!! i was 24 at the time she was only 12 !! so i guess she would have sang this song. truely i did not take any notice of her because she was a kid and i was only interested in girls between 17-24 years old.

  • Very nice! <3

    ~Claudia

  • This is my era....I was NOT born too late...It was the perfect time to grow up in America....a much more innocent time....I can't roll back the clock...but my grandchildren will never know the wonderment I knew. Thank you so much for posting....

  • HI, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AND INNOCENT TRACK HERE! THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES,TOM D.

  • i was so born to late! i'm 13 in 2011 and was born 50 years to late :(

  • In response to those who like music from the fifties:I was listening to a Christian Doctor once and he said that because of sin, even music and art has been affected in a negative way;meaning music is no longer music; and has lost it's beauty as well as art. So,the longer we are in this sinful world, music and art just gets uglier. It used to be that in order to record your voice on a record you had to audition and really know how to sing.Nowadays anybody can record and sell talentless recordings

  • @65stratplayer I'm calling bull. The fact so many more mediums are available to connect people, more music reaches the mainstream that we "don't like." Music requires talent. Not simply vocal talent, but lyrical talent. I don't know what you mean by "talentless recordings." You should be crediting the song writers as well. The world has always been sinful. However, the mid-1900s simply masked its abundance better.

  • @65stratplayer - That Christian doctor knows not what he speaks. I am so tired of you negative people who want the rest of the world to be miserable just because you won't take responsibility for making yourself happy. Life is NOT 'ugly.' Why bother going on if you believe that. How silly. There are many great singers around today but if you have such a horrid attitude you won't bother to look for them, will you. If you don't have anything uplifting to say then don't say anything at all.

  • @FredericaBimble *applause*

  • @FredericaBimble

And your negativity towards others' negativity is equally frustrating and annoying. The fact of the matter is that due to the music industry today, the variety of good music that actually makes it to mainstream radio is obnoxiously low (Adele is of course an exception). Add auto tune to the mix, and you have the recipe for suck (Adele of course is an exception once again).

  • @65stratplayer As Auntie Mame observed"life's a banquet and most poor sons of bitches are starving".

  • My wife and I restored a 1942 Ford business coupe, and her license plate reads BRN2L8 after this song. She's 25 and I'm 29..... We were both truly born too late!!!!

  • Poni Tails, Linda Scott, Teddy Bears, Frankie Lymon, Four Preps, Connie Francis, Edsels, Slim Whitmann, Skyliners, Kalins, Crew Cuts, Cascades, Lettermen, Platters, Haley Comets... you name 'em, I remember 'em. Unbeatable times. I wish they'd return.

    Regards,

    Horatio Nelson.

  • @HoratioNel Weren't you at Trafalgar?

  • @zipsrule:

Yes. My brother was manning the battle ship and loading the cannon and I made the crew's coffee. I was awarded the Nobel Prize for services to coffee making under stormy conditions.

    Regards,

    Horatio Nelson.

  • That was Boots Randolph. He was a studio Musician then.

  • That guy on the sax is Billy Vaughn, great player

  • I was born in the wrong era! I still remember this song as a kid listening to it on 8 track tape in the early 80's! Great song!

  • what girl can't relate to this song? had a crush on the boy next door who was much older!!!

  • @cramerd94 howa bout having a cruch on a boy who's your age...but already has a girlfriend?

  • these songs remind me of my dear old mum but apart from that the guy on the sax deserves a gold

  • I don't know where you found this, but THANK YOU!

  • I was 7 years old, and I remember this song.....Puppy love days.....LOL Love it, great song.

  • Download the audio from this clip at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • 1958 . I learned to drive in a '58 Chevy. It was 1973 tho. Late fifties... Cool years!!

  • wish I didn't remember this on radio luxenbourg

  • They went to Charles F. Brush High School in Lyndhurst Ohio.

  • @zipsrule: as did the rapsberries, the choir, members of circus, and so many more. cleveland the rock & roll capital of the world? you bet! I probably forgot some!

  • @jeff65623 But Charles F. Brush High School is in Lyndhurst, not Cleveland.

  • @zipsrule: Lyndhurst is a suburb 9 miles east of cleveland

  • @jeff65623 I know where it is, I went to Brush.

  • Great ! In stereo even more rare for the era

  • Great song, fun time to be a kid.

  • Was sixteen at this time and I tell ya, no decade like it.

  • Such a great song. Glorious harmonizing. And the plaintive tone of the lead singer is just wonderful.

  • I've got news for you all. I heard this song on the radio when I was on an Army detail in Germany in 1955. Maybe a different group?

  • this song was made in 1958 the year i was born and its a great song

  • I was 13 in 1958 and the music of the late 1950s and on into the 1960s will always remain my favourite style.

This is a beautiful song, so nicely presented by the girls and brings back schoolboy memories. :)

    Many thanks for your channel.

  • O.o this sounds like my life. O_o

  • I just wish we could redo everything over again, starting from the 40s on.

  • Beautiful vocal performance, very sweets.

  • back in the 60s i was about 7yrs old this girl sang this song to ..she was about 16 years old i was her little boy friend...man she had pony tail and a poople skirt..bobby sox..remember those? black hair..blue eyes pretty girl...im 58 yrs old now but everytime i hear this song i will always remember when carol sang me this song .she was my first crush ..puppy love as its was call back in the day..

  • Who could possible dislike this song? Thanks for the wonderful trip down Memory Lane...

  • I completely relate to this song...wishing to be a teenager in the 50's....and it's great to hear classic female doo wop songs such as this.

  • This beautifull song takes me back to 1960, my Senior Year in High School. In fact it takes me back to a time in America that ceased to exist decades ago. A Happy and Positive Thinking U.S.A. that was United .

  • Freshman in a high school with less than 200, .good times much simpler world, great music and you could understand the lyrics.

  • Do you know anywhere I can download this song?

  • Lovely song. You can almost smell the '50's

  • TenStarsplus!!!! Thank you so much for posting this fantabulous song!!! I was 15 in 1958 when it came out, and had a crush on a 19 year old girl who got married and broke my heart!!! Ahhhh those were the days!!! So simple and innocent!!! Sadly, Patty McCabe passed away from cancer!! Was the sax player the late Billy Vaughn, or possibly the late Boots Randolph?? I'd like to know, if you know!! Thank you for posting this, and I always enjoy all the great songs you come up with!!! Stephen

  • @BigDuckKetterer Thank you for your very nice comments! This song is also one of my favorites. I don't have any info. on the sax player.

  • @BigDuckKetterer I hope you get this. I was also 15 in 1958...jeez.

  • I was born in 1992, but I've always had a taste for the older fashion. Style today is just not even close to many decades ago. I'd say I'm a mix of 50's and 80's music and I i'm also to how stylish the cars were back then, I can just imagine myself driving around in a 1958 Impala any day!

  • @geo58impala I'm also born in 1992, and love the 50s music. That was the true meaning of life back in the days. Not now, so competitive and the music sucks..

  • I was 17 and remember this tune well! Just great!!!

  • The Pony Tails. Well, how sexy is that ?

  • I witnessed every modern wonder being born, but also sadly saw people being considered as numbers and dreams being broken. So I wasn't born too late. It was just the right moment.

  • Well, I lived intensely the 50's and 60's and can assure: they were actually golden years. Not only because I was young, but life was pleasant to enjoy for any age. Happiness was something touchable. There was violence and sorrow too, but so scarce that can't compare to these days of uncertainty. It's not because it's in the past: years before life was hard, there was a bloody war involving the whole planet. No, we didn't have one thousand channels, no 3-D TV, no Internet, no Word for Windows.

  • I was born in '42, so hit it just right . In '58 I was 16. I also lived in a Cleveland Suburb near where the Poni Tail's were from. I believe they went to Brush High School. A rival of our school. Anyway great sound, it takes me right back to those days. Just to let everyone know... this is my music, all the '50's music is .... But I don't mind sharing it with everyone. lol

  • Born in 1950. Always grateful to have witnessed AND enjoyed the birth of Rock 'n' Roll. The mid-50's and early 60's were magical times. The British invasion in 1964 ushered in a second "magical times."

Back in those lazy days, you had to wait until the songs came on the radio--AM--to hear them. The older kids could buy the 45's and LPs. Kids like myself could only wait. Today the kids might not have the same quality music, but at least they have access to it via YouTube. I sure miss those days.

  • @Tigermoon1950 I SO AGREE WITH YOU...........How lucky we are!

  • I haven't heard this song in a while, brings back memories, thanks for posting

  • born 1948 I well remember elvis breaking in england in 1956 with heartbreak hotel .since then we have had so much wonderful music..i wouldnt say there is no good stuff coming out now because there are still very talented people around..its hard to be original and not sound like someone who has gone before...i cant stand rap because its crude and tuneless but i dont want to be like my dad who hated anything that wasnt classical--thought elvis beatles stones etc etc were mindless rubbish!

  • Not from that generation (I'm just a 49-year-old kid!) but love the music. Very respectable and sweet. Thanks!! ;^)

  • @tycomfck yeah everything was so cool back then must have been easy life then than today is hanging out with groups of friends going to partys rock n rolling and getting the girl u want and dance with them its so much harder today all the girls i find always have boyfriends or they run a mile but the rock n roll music keeps me happy specialy the king elvis presley im an elvis impersonator i even keep my comb in my back pocket like they use to back then and wear the old teddy boys clothes

  • i was born in 1991 i should have been born in the 50s im 19 and i love the oldies 50s and 60s music especialy elvis presley how i would have loved to have seen him at a concert i cant stand todays music it dont have emotion and it doesnt move me 50s and 60s music always moves me makes me wish i was at the old rock n roll joints its much better

  • @TheKingdarron You are very smart and have great taste in music! I'm 32 and I made the same discovery as you in high school.

  • @TheKingdarron Geez! I'm 54 and still was born too late for this music! But I'm glad that you like this music. The 50s were a great decade.

  • @tycomfck Me, too. I'm 54 and never heard this song until it was played on a nostalgia station maybe ten years ago. Absolutely terrific song! Thanks for posting.

  • @TheKingdarron I was born in 1943. My daughter was born in 1973 and went to high school in North Olmsted, Ohio with the daughter of one of the Poni-Tails, Patti (McCabe) Barnes. Patti died of cancer in 1989.

  • @TheKingdarron Well, I was born in '46, & was lucky enough to not only grow up in The Fab 50's, but I also lived--lived, to listen to the radio, & buy my fav. 45 record, run home & play it 50 times in a row! What a time it was, & then as now, I loved this song, & never, ever tire of hearing it. Spring/ Summer of '58, this was one of many real classics from those days. Wolfsky9, 64y/o

  • @TheKingdarron I was born in 1949 and I loved this music. My sister was 3 years older than I was and I would listen as she played all her 45s. Being there at the start of the Beatles and Stones and Beach Boys was terrific. I am glad to see that there are young people out there that appreciate old music.

  • @TheKingdarron Sorry you missed all of the 50s and 60s music the first time around but there's no reason why you can't enjoy it now. You have good taste in music for someone so young and I agree with you that most of today's music basically SUCKS. If you like I can send you the names of some of the 60s groups and/or singers that you may or may not have heard of so that way you can listen to them on youtube before you download the songs off the internet. Maybe even some 50s music. Thanks.

  • @kismet818 I was born in the late '70's and also discovered that '50's and '60's music was much better than anything that came after it.

  • @TheLimePopsicle Glad you like the music from that era too LimeP. Let me know if you need any suggestions as far as names of groups or singers.

  • @TheKingdarron What a great thing to say "TheKingdom". As I browse oldies on youtube, I find comments similar to yours. There are so many like yourself. I pray everyday they bring back the sounds of the 50's and 60's. For the life of me, I can't understand what the younger generation gets out of some of the music today. Bless you.

  • @rstory10063 all we get is confidence and some shallow message rly but its enough sometimes other times i come here ... i listen to oldies for something much deeper than the music of today has to offer me. i'm 18

  • @rstory10063 well tell to tell the truth 50s and 60s music and rock n roll never left it was people that left this music it is still out there waiting for people to come back to it and it proves that rock n roll 50s n 60s music never died because there great people like us that still listen to it and still enjoy singing and dancing to the great sound and it means alot when it takes people back to memory lane god bless our 50s n 60s rock n roll

  • @TheKingdarron I agree 110% I'm 21 and adore the music from the 50's, 60's, 70's & 80's.

  • @LoopyLeah90 I too agree about enjoying music from different decades Our daughter who's 16 likes the music from the 50s and 60s. Her favorite singers from the 50s are Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran, from the 60s are The Beatles especially John Lennon, The Beach Boys, The Monkees especially Micky Dolenz ,Lesley Gore, Gene Pitney and Connie Francis. While our younger daughter who is only 11 likes music from the 40s The Big Bands her favorites are Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw especially Glenn Miller.

  • @TheKingdarron Was born in cleveland...Shaker Hts HS...class of '68...my brother graduated from Orange HS bef we moved to Shaker...this song was written about Elvis...they were too young for him...I say Elvis in Cleveland and the Beatles twicke,,,along with the Four Seasons and all the old Motown groups we saw at Leo's Casino...we went to party at Moe's after hours on Hough...lol...my daughter is 20 and was raised on these tunes...

  • Comment removed

  • @TheKingdarron I feel exactly the same! im 30 and have always loved rock and roll since i was a kid.x

  • Born too late...why was I born too late...in 1980. The 50's was long before my time! I was a small girl in the 80's and although I loved the 80's, I grew up on a lot of oldies and classic songs. I listened to them a lot in the mid 90's because I didn't care for the rap and hip hop crap.

  • @AmericanEvita I was born in 1978, and I only listened to '50's and '60's songs (and older) as a teen as well! Now here I am today with a '50's and '60's YouTube channel, haha.

  • @TheLimePopsicle I WAS BORN IN 1965 AND I HAVE ALWAYS LISTENED 50S AND 60S MAYBE THIS MUSIC HAS A SPECIAL CHARM OR WHAT DO YOU THINK MY FRIEND ?

  • @PIPO5851 Yes, '50's and '60's music definitely has a special charm!

  • love it

  • @Wolfsky9: It's nice knowing a macho dude has a soft spot for a sweet song like this :)

  • Born in '45. happy am I to have lived in this era, and to be alive and well today

  • @sparwood8 I, too, born in1945. Some of the best times!

  • go cleveland girls?

  • I was 11 y/o, in the Spring & summer of '58; I so loved this song, & I can still see the girls doing this on " AB". All-time classic, from better days. Wolfsky9

  • @Wolfsky9 Wish I could see that film footage! I've never seen any video of the Poni-Tails.

  • @TheLimePopsicle Sir, sadly, Dick Clark has--to this very day--refused to release, or even open his old kinescopes of " AB". Heaven only knows what he's waiting for, but The Poni-Tails were on there. I had such a crush on one of them--I'm not sure which one--but this song, is truly, Forever. And yes, I'm a macho Dude, but I truly loved this song.

  • @Wolfsky9 Yes, much of the Sullivan and Bandstand footage is unavailable today, so many treasures in the vaults that fans can't view. Can you point out the Poni-Tail you liked in the photo? I found the one at the bottom to be the most attractive to me. You can check out some of the photos on my other postings of their songs as well.

  • @TheLimePopsicle Sir, I think--think, it's the girl on the Left of this Pic; what I recall was that they were all standing, by a rail of some kind, & I think it's that one--who was so drop-dead cute, I could not take my eyes off of her. They were on when AB was in Philly, & I was sooo lucky to catch them. Wolfsky9, 64 y/o in 2 days.

  • @Wolfsky9 Very interesting, must have been a fantastic music clip!

  • Those girls sang like angels!

  • @MissGoldenDreams13 Them and the Maguire sister WERE Angels! Well, almost anyways

  • my new fav song... they dont make em anywhere near where they used to

  • my new fav song... they dont make em anywhere near where they used to

  • esta melodia me traslada a otra época. me gusta

  • love that saxophone coupled with the sweetest vocals and storyline that i have ever heard. the perfect song...am i right ?
