  • In her prime, Sinead sent chills through my spine like no other singer.

  • @morgaffi YEP! I saw her in Dallas in 89', wowzers. She did "I am stretched on your grave" for the finale. WHEW! Goosebumps just typing this. Stupidly talented!

  • Addicting....

  • I think of musical genius when i listen this !

  • The face of you, the smell of you, always be with me. That line always floors me because thats what my mum said about her lost baby. She would have been 40 this year, just shows you they never forget.

  • I think of the aborted babies when I listen to this

  • @chapinkathleen I think more of miscarriages than abortion.

  • her voice is too big for the world, it's no wonder the world cannot handle her

  • @llel11 S So

    o true.

  • @llel11 Oh so so true.

  • How do you know she not singing about miscarragies? Just saying.

  • i am a Mum of 3 blessings to them

  • Addictive sound and vocals

  • juste magnifique ...

  • Vor so viel Gefühl ---- steht die Tränendrüse. Toll !!!!

  • i would sing this to my 19 year old when he was very small, the money from this went to the hungry kurds if im correct made the top 5 in the uk

  • Sinead's voice has the power to scratch into my soul where the pain lies buried and I am able to feel the hurt and heal but for a while....I love you Sinead.

  • wundervoll

  • i love this song always. very sad, haunting yet beautiful at the same time. Sinead is one of the most beautiful souls. can always hear the emotions in her voice every time, whether its pain and anger, joy, whatever... stuck up for her back then, still do now. any time somebody talks shit about her, before they do they should take a good look at themselves for one first then take a better look at her loving, caring heart and soul

  • this song is hauntingly beautiful. you can feel the pain in her voice. i remember my mom would sing this to me, my brother, sister when we were young. love you mom.

  • for Isa, Evanz and Will...we are 3 babies!:))

  • Adore Sinead one fine Irish talented soul

  • Why is she shaved?

  • @fablan6 Why not? She likes being shaved, its her style. Same reason some men have long hair.

  • This could very well be one of the best vocal performances in history.

  • to my first conceived... ..Im sorry and I miss you- love you , Mom

  • I have 3 babies, boys, now in their 30's. I still call them my babies. Each has a different saying when we part. One says,"I luv ya, always have n I always will" another says," Love ya, sweetness, see ya soon" the other,"Bye,Mama, love you most." They and their children are my life. Sinead now has 4 babies and they are blessed indeed. I have the utmost respect for good fathers, single, especially.

  • This has always been my favorite song by her...I never knew she did a video to it. I remember playing this cassette to death in my car (before the days of car CD players).

  • i love her:)

  • For myself

I ask no one else will be

    Mother to these three

  • got to cry every timeI hear it , can read so much into it no matter . love you

  • @WJKPrimsy dude, you're in the wrong section.

  • @axlxexxx What?

  • Chacun de ces enfants

sont si loin de moi maintenant

    il n y a rien de pire

que de ne pouvoir participer a leur avenir

    j attendrai qu ils grandissent

    mes filles mon fils

je reverrai peut etre leur sourire

    dans un proche avenir

  • In respose to stephdfrancis, I know how it feels to be a father, single parent of three sons, 2,3,7years. Mom walked and I was there for my three babies. They are 15, 16 and 21 now. So please remember the Father as well as the mother because sometimes we have to be both. Jon, Josh and Joel, I love you my sons.

    Dad........................................

  • @41673 your so lucky to have each other ! peace love and happiness to your family

  • @41673 Seriously awesome. Well done.

  • @41673 You have my complete respect.... I am a single Mum, but am so aware that the focus on single parents is hugely directed to the Mums, and the Fathers are left out.... Unfortunately the father to my babies does not deserve the title, but I think men like you deserve a medal..... and a huge hug from me x

  • @41673

Respect dad! From a single mom. X

  • @41673

that is so wonderful xoxox tear

  • @41673 lol Just read your post and all I thought after I read that was WOW can I date you?? Single Dad's are such a rare thing, and to be a GOOD single Father is even more rare than that!! So nice to discover a good one for the few I've ever seen thru the years try their hand at the job! Congrats on having done such a successful job especially if all three graduate high school.. and (this is a big one) don't knock up any girls before they do! God bless you! Or should I say He already has! :-)

  • @41673 sinaed ,dont give up, let me lead you thruogh the streets of london.

  • @41673 What do you mean?

  • I think to remember that this song was made like a tribute to all young people who died in Argentina in 70s, under Pinochet terror, In one moment of time, I have to heard it.

  • @tequiness061 Pinochet was a chilean dictator, in my country, Chile. In Argentina was videla an others. Sorry, my english is so bad.

  • @carolapizarro oops, its true!! I was a wrong!! but is the same terror...just in another country. No te preocupes, solo fue un resbalon que tuve. Por cierto mi ingles seguro que es peor que el tuyo. Saludos.

  • You know someone is beyond beauty when they can shave their head and still look absolutely gorgeous.

  • what pretty peacocks

  • the anger and the beauty of this song at the same time. unreal

  • fuckin brilliant

    and shes coming to australia!

  • i.r.a supporter sinead

  • most beautiful face ever..

  • she was right about child abuse in church

    belgium also

  • she was right about child abuse in church

  • This song is BEAUTIFUL

  • Is this about abortion? Sinead not's anti-Christian. In fact, she is Christian, I'm pretty sure. She's not much of a fan of what the Catholic Church did in Ireland. She's also older than she was and the fair thing to do is allow people room/grace to grow.

  • Is this about abortion?

  • @custardflan I always thought it was about miscarriage. Or perhaps he was singing in the perspective of a woman who lost her babies due to poverty.

  • @TheBonnieRose My take is that she is singing about her creativity, her muse, in some way. I don't know what the 3 parts are exactly. "The thing I have chosen to be."

  • @deenibeeni i'm also confused bonnie rose.... i thought she had three abortions but apparently thats not true.

  • this song is craZy beautiful

  • i wish i had children but i didnt so to the animals that took their place thank you for saving me

  • pope Benedict on top of the world, Ms O'Connor a fading memory, Jesus saves

  • @Bananayoghurt1000 fuk u jesus is a fairy tale sinead is real

  • Loveeeeee her

  • she hurts my feelings so beautifully

  • just fantastic....no one like this woman...

  • Decir que me gusta!!, es muy poco. sencillamente me encanta desde la primera vez que escuche este tema!!!

  • I've heard this song a thousand times (it's my favorite of hers) and it still makes me cry every single time. So sad and hauntingly beautiful. No one sings like her and it's such a personal song. I could listen to it over and over again. Although the meaning for her is quite painful, I think many can relate to it in such a beautifully positive way regarding their own children.

  • @bbypookins Listen to black boys on mopeds. One line hurts so much. The first word her babies learn is please. Babies are supposed to say no as their first word-it shows they live in an environment where there are choices and that the baby has realized a separation between herself and others. Can you imagine the world of a baby whose first word is please?

  • @bbypookins Yes yes

  • Love her voice, and she is beautiful but I don't get the shaved head?

  • @chantay24 She was making a statement about how children are abused in their own homes and if the family has any level of prominence at all it is ignored by everyone because they don't want to disturb the status quo

  • @chantay24 What's to get?

  • 26 people have no heart feelings and not even humans

  • Just .. um ... what? I mean, who the hell can sng like this? Much less the fact that she wrote the song. The world needs to cherish this genius woman.

  • Jesus, Mary, Joseph and all the saints ... Sinead's Lion & Cobra work made us all flip in college, and I loved it, but the first time I heard this particular song, 1990, in the CD player, sittingin the living-room, the hairs on my neck stood-up.

THIS song was when I knew she was not merely "sensational" ... she was GREAT.

  • She is Queen of the Arish

  • Great voice, like this song

  • I like this song very much but it's a shame the sound of this video is rather bad.

  • Sinead is nuts, I knew a nutter once..Sinead is awesome, the nutter I knew wasn't...

  • @kilmainham9 LOL

  • has to be my favourite song ever , have cried a many time to this

    and rercovered

  • did horsie die?

  • you're all full of shit. And if you really don't know then shut the fuck up!!

  • brilliant stuff

    lorenzo

  • She looks like a pubescent boy, absolutely amazing vocals though

  • Sinead is amazing. She stood by what she believed in, never faltering, standing strong. She's a strong, talented woman.... has my respect!

  • every tear a blessing

  • @TheIraRock she didn't have abortions. She has four children and they're all alive. She's wrote the song about the three children she had at the time.

  • Well, yeah, I know she never had an abortion in her life, but basically, I do think she may be refering to girls who have had it so. Just like she did with Jump in the river's video, there's an interview on youtube, on which she speaks more clearly about this matter. .

  • Nevertheless, this song is not about the children she already had at that time, that's what has always intrigued me, cause at that time, she only had her first son, Jake. She'd have Roisin and Shawn some years later.

  • What comes to me, as the explanation behind the lyrics in this song, is that maybe, she refers to when her producers at the beggining of her carrier wanted her to have an abortion, which happened more or less at the same time she starred in a movie about abortion and Catholicism in Ireland, Hush-a-Bye Baby.

  • On the other hand, it can also be a sorta metaphor between abortion and the hardships she handled in her childhood, as THREE of the five children her parents had(including herself) would have to live with her mother, who was a violent woman. So, the three of them, were exposed to abuse and cruelty. Anyway, i really dunno! =/

  • Ok, just a correction: Her third son's name isn't Shawn, it is Shane.

  • @TheIraRock

Umm of what do you speak...do you even know? O.o

...she has four children and never has had an abortion that I have ever known of, are you one who makes things up to fit your own warped imagery perhaps?

  • I love Sinead. It's time for her to make a radical comeback. I sure hope she makes it back to my neck of the backwoods (Colorado, USA).

And yea, the horse looks a heroin addict nodding out.

  • profile perfect... whatever angle she's on everything's a picture perfect.

  • ola

  • is the horse drugged? how the hell otherwise...

  • po prostu piękne

  • This song is haunting and beautiful. What a voice she has!! Most be something from Ireland (Delores O'Riordan anyone?) LOVE LOVE LOVE Sinead!!!

  • Best female singer period, cant say enough amazing things about Sinead!!!!.

Her emotion alone totally blows me away!!!!!!!!!!

  • Enya, on her best day, in her wettest dream, could not produce a tune this good. If you want "The rain is pain when on a plane or a train" sung forty times with "uh uh ah ah ah" then Enya is your girl. But Enya could not even approach to kiss the Doc Maarten boots of Sinead at her best. Hullo.

  • Enya has been there done it

  • @o4fcuksake

I honestly don't even see the parallel, I like Enya's music as well...but the two women are inherently different singers and artists.

  • @o4fcuksake This was before any of Enyas music became really famous. They are as alike as chalk and cheese

  • @rosemarymclaughlin Enya had a UK number one two years before this. There is a vague similarity - but mostly in the production. Enya could never emote in such a powerful way as this - the vocal is more like Siouxsie Sioux or Bjork than Enya.

  • @brk754 Well I bought this in 1990 and had never even heard of Enya til about 1995

  • @o4fcuksake What are EWnya's songs about? She lives less than 400 hundred metres away from me and I have never heard a word she has sung, I have heard her songs but ????? Sinead is totally totally different Sinead is a maverick and a punk and a genius.

PS So is her brother Joseph. i am reading his book ( just one of many works of art) "Desperadoes" and it is SO GOOODDD

  • she is gorgeous!!!!!

  • my joan of arc ;)~*

  • Bardzo się cieszę , że po latach ponownie odkryłem tą piosenkę... :))

  • j'adore... ^^

  • Wow! A very powerful performance! I support you Sinead! We all know evil when we see it and I will help you fight it! :)

  • Never heard anyone that can sing so angelic. Another beautifully done song...Sinead you are a legend.

  • This woman is a serious nut case. Is she still a priest/priestess?? Or has she been promoted to a Bishop? I hear she now claims to be a reincarnation of Helen of Troy??? lol.

  • Wow, that's some great material you got there, Mikey boy..."LOL"

    Make any new friends today?

Lotta shit here with you layin' down your "I HATE BLACK PEOPLE" thing. Is this a new direction for SPUC-ites in general, kind of a synergy if you will... or is talking online like a confused, angry child just something you do to get off? "LOL"

  • AT democraticright

    "darker shade of pale" eh?

Bet you stayed up until 3AM again writing that one.

You seem to have a bit of a hard on for black prople... I'm wondering why but there isn't really an answer to that. Fundamentalists like you and the Wahibi never really see the need to justify your zany views.

I also see that you are inviting to meet more people behind the bike shed after school.

How's that workin' out for ya?

  • @DemocraticRight Your an idiot. She was on The Rachel Maddow Show last night and she was speaking about how she is very much still a Catholic and spoke of the holy spirit and the catholic churches willingness to abuse its power. She fights to reform the church NOT to denounce her faith!! She herself was a victim of child abuse and now fights for ALL children's rights. WE ALL owe her an apology for she was always right about the church, and it's cover-ups.

  • @DemocraticRight

...and you believe anything you read I am sure, because written word is always truth. LOL

  • @DemocraticRight Don't believe the national enquirer lol, I heard her twice in the past week on the radio; I'd say she is the sanest person in Ireland, actually.

  • Sinead is just awesome!

  • I am a mother of three babies, this is a powerful song and history is extremely important! My heart goes out to the mother who lost her babies in a religious terrorist act. In the video Sinead demonstrates her passion and conviction for the abused children and her profound faith in God.

  • omg, so beautiful. got a tear coming to my eye... stunning and angelic.

  • That's history now.

  • incredibly moving, gorgeous song, and her rendition of it is so powerful. the way her voice surges and then whispers, sometimes within the same line...just incredible. and that face, that face...wow.

i believe this song is based on a true story she read in the paper of a mother whose 3 children were caught and killed in a bombing between the protestant/catholic madness that went on (and most likely still does) in ireland. its just an astounding song.

  • it's so perfect

  • This song reminds me of my three girls.Had them pretty young and it wasn't always easy. This song got me through plenty of difficult times. Always keep things n perpective for me. Thank you Sinead O Connor. This song is for my 3 babies ..Steph - Chrissy - Evy .. :-)

  • Without a doubt, one of the best songs about how it feels to be a mother ever written.

  • @stephdfrancis she had no children at this stage....... i thought she had 3 abortions but apparently thats not true

  • Wow! I love it. Understand the meaning...so beautiful. She is fantastic...images..power of the animal thru the horse, the circle of life thru candles, Hare Krishna..faithful devotion. Love it.

  • amazing.

  • Such a beautiful song.

Brings back memories of a dear friend who took her life many years ago - this was her favourite song...

  • @spkenn36 this is my favourite song among those that she's written. helps me to get through stuff. really sorry about your friend...

  • Thanks man...take it easy...

  • bella.

  • The absolute meaning of the word BEAUTIFUL !! Love you Sinead ;-)
