Damn just hope I'm alive when it finally gets done! This mess has been going on far too long...it;s a crying shame; and most of us know why it has taken so long too; my family owned the club just behind it and there is more history in that one little block than in all of surrounding DC .. I just hope the money don't go missing or get messed up THIS TIME around.. I want to contribute to its restoration but am afraid of it never happening..again.
An extremely committed group that had all private financing and unabated community support pleaded for the rights to develop the Howard during the entire eight (8) years of the Anthony Williams administration until they were finally sold out by a bunch of disingenuous and unscrupulous group of senior and mid management lackeys. It was given away to some hustlers that havent been able to do anything with the building since they were given the development rights three and a half years ago.
Thanks so much for posting this. This means a lot to me. I am a DC native. I actually took a couple of pictures myself with the new banners on it. Like the dead coming back to life.
I have such vivid memories of going to shows at The Howard Theatre even at the tender age of 5 years old. Seeing the Coasters, Smokey Robinson and others as I grew up. It was a safe place and back then with $2 I could get DC Transit for $.50 and pay $.50 to get in and have $1 to spend on an all day candy. I saw James Brown, the Temptations and Jr. Walker and the Allstars etc. I await the opening and I pray the acts are Class acts as they were in the past. May God Himself bless this project!
