TARP money went to banks and then stopped. Billions went in and no credit was freed up. So, they printed some more and dumped it in.
This is similar to past hyperinflation periods but it is not people hoarding cash, it is banks.
I suspect it is derivatives causing this blockage. There are contracts that dwarf the wealth of the world many times over. This is probably sucking all of the bank's cash - as more is poured in, money goes to unwind these contracts.
Nobody seems to understand this derivatives market. Basically a casino game betting on indexes like oil, real estate, $USD, DOW, etc. Look at the range of the "assets" listed above over the last year or so.
These guys expected to bet on, say realestate - you put your money in and bet whether realestate is going up or down. A couple % move is multiplied out to a huge number. These markets are not made for 30% drops in RE or 200% drops in oil. Imagine the 40x leverage on a bad oil bet.
So, if velocity is the issue, what could speed money up?
The bond market tanking could do it. It has dropped 11% since Jan before the FED propped it up with a debt purchase.
The USD getting dropped as a reserve currency would do it too. Those $USD held would all come home. So far that isn't happening, but recall China is setting up agreements to avoid the USD.
Beyond mechanics is the consumer and what they are doing - spending, saving, hoarding necessities, paying debt, etc.
I am curious to hear why you think there will be no inflation. We need two things to hyperinflate - increase in the money supply and increase in the velocity of money.
You have to agree we are going to be printing trillions - that is a fact - the money supply of $USD is going up.
The other side is the velocity of that money. We have a major jam because we pour Billions into banks and it is not hitting the streets. We are having the same effect as hoarding of money.

Will this "printed money" is somehow able to find its way into the real economy is the question. The answer is no. Global deleveraging vastly outweighs the "printing" currently.
We WILL get an uptick in inflation 1-5%. Make no mistake... If inflation runs away like it did in the early 80's, over 10%, the FED raises interest rates. Party OVER>.
We are going to get into a box soon. We need to sell $2Trillion in bonds to finance all this goodness. Nobody is going to buy them. So, we will have to raise interest rates to make them attractive, which would put most consumers and businesses into bankruptcy.

Hi K9, The Liberty Dollar ( pure silver)is in about 20 states. Banks will not accept it because it is not their money. They can't inflate it or manipulate it !? Merchants and private people accept it willingly. Only downside is interference by the Treasury as it already happened when they invaded the Liberty Dollar offices and confiscated the money. We are getting closer to that million job decline every month. thats our economy. If we end up losing a million jobs a month then guess what, nobody will be consuming and since the economy depends on credit and consuming, the economy will not improve.
Even if the banks start lending again, nobody will be able to get the loan let alone pay for it because people are jobless. We're the ones thats losing everything, govt aint losing shit. We should have built factories, warehouse, and manufacturing plants all around the US. Put money into these jobs to keep people employed and so that they can go out and buy and take care of home. We dont want bailouts we dont want to be taxed to death or regulated to death........

TARP money went to banks and then stopped. Billions went in and no credit was freed up. So, they printed some more and dumped it in.
This is similar to past hyperinflation periods but it is not people hoarding cash, it is banks.
I suspect it is derivatives causing this blockage. There are contracts that dwarf the wealth of the world many times over. This is probably sucking all of the bank's cash - as more is poured in, money goes to unwind these contracts.

Nobody seems to understand this derivatives market. Basically a casino game betting on indexes like oil, real estate, $USD, DOW, etc. Look at the range of the "assets" listed above over the last year or so.
These guys expected to bet on, say realestate - you put your money in and bet whether realestate is going up or down. A couple % move is multiplied out to a huge number. These markets are not made for 30% drops in RE or 200% drops in oil. Imagine the 40x leverage on a bad oil bet.

The bond market tanking could do it. It has dropped 11% since Jan before the FED propped it up with a debt purchase.
The USD getting dropped as a reserve currency would do it too. Those $USD held would all come home. So far that isn't happening, but recall China is setting up agreements to avoid the USD.
Beyond mechanics is the consumer and what they are doing - spending, saving, hoarding necessities, paying debt, etc.

I am curious to hear why you think there will be no inflation. We need two things to hyperinflate - increase in the money supply and increase in the velocity of money.
You have to agree we are going to be printing trillions - that is a fact - the money supply of $USD is going up.
The other side is the velocity of that money. We have a major jam because we pour Billions into banks and it is not hitting the streets. We are having the same effect as hoarding of money.

I did not say there will be NO inflation... The FED's goal is a small amount of workable inflation. I said there will be NO hyperinflation.
Will this "printed money" is somehow able to find its way into the real economy is the question. The answer is no. Global deleveraging vastly outweighs the "printing" currently.
We WILL get an uptick in inflation 1-5%. Make no mistake... If inflation runs away like it did in the early 80's, over 10%, the FED raises interest rates. Party OVER>.

Currency wars really could play out like a regular war with allies and enemies. If the Swiss are now showing deflation then we will start to see it around the world I would guess.
Copter Ben probably isn't worried about deflation with all of the new money heading in - or maybe it is the least of his worries. He may be planning to print until he sees some inflation starting and then haul back - I doubt it will be that easy.

Hi K9, The Liberty Dollar ( pure silver)is in about 20 states. Banks will not accept it because it is not their money. They can't inflate it or manipulate it !? Merchants and private people accept it willingly. Only downside is interference by the Treasury as it already happened when they invaded the Liberty Dollar offices and confiscated the money. After the raid the coin sold for 10 times what they were worth. I know because I sold some. We are going to see currency wars starting in the next couple weeks. The swiss scared everybody two weeks ago when they started to devalue their currency - huge spike in gold.
Now it is apparent they are in defaltion and extremely worried about it - their price index fell 0.5% last month and will drop 1% by June/July.
Singapore is also devaluing currency.
The problem is, currencies are like teeter-totters. You bring one down another goes up. This will be the first battleground.

What I do know is YT has an automated indexing system which takes your comments off the blog and then reposts them order, "like shuffling a deck if you will" programed in this system are filters which do not repost certain comments which I have found go against YTs leaning left agenda which they do have! Many of my comments never made it back, or they get reposted so many days later they wind up 6 pages back and nobody sees them.

Global Climate Change is more accurate and best describes erratic weather - not just the melting of polar ice caps, but the increase in the number of hurricanes annually and the increase in intensity...the list goes on. A local family here in Washington had a tragic ending today.
A man in Grant Washington about two hours from me took a riffle and shot his 5 sons and then turned the gun on himself because he lost his job last month and couldn't cope losing everything... I don't know what or where the wife is in all this the news didn't say. Sad day here in Washington.

That is tragic Sedink - I heard it on the news. The tragedy in my town of Pittsburgh yesterday, where 3 police officers died was somewhat related to the young man unable to find work recently. Of course, most people out of work do not kill, but the pressure is . This guy in Pittsburgh had a history of acting out under pressure, but did not have a criminal record. What humans are capable of under extreme pressure is scary.

Watched a special on the History channel tonight about the Great Depression and its parallel with todays collapse. Seems the only difference was the Great Depression was the banks and todays depression is the sub-primes and the over valued home values. Outside of that the parallel almost lines up perfectly with every event that unfolds. The 30's also had their share of the filthy greedy rich.

You want a solution? Well here it is. First of all, we should have never bailed out anyone with all the money that china loaned us. This economy depends on credit to survive and thats the problem. We are getting closer to that million job decline every month. thats our economy. If we end up losing a million jobs a month then guess what, nobody will be consuming and since the economy depends on credit and consuming, the economy will not improve.

We should have built factories, warehouse, and manufacturing plants all around the US. Put money into these jobs to keep people employed and so that they can go out and buy and take care of home. Hey Crabshack. I happen to live in Stanton Heights in Pittsburgh. 3-4 officers hurt. 1 officer cannot be gotten to provide medical assistance. Guy used AK47. Guy still in house with one other person(hostage?) All started with domestic dispute call. Negotiations by police going on.
And here I sit without any firearms at all. Shocking.

"...people were making fun of him. He felt he was being degraded because of his inability to speak English, and he was upset about that," Zikuski said. He did also lose his job, but you can't say that that was the reason he did this. It may have contributed, but the taunting he experienced was a factor.

Yes I would just mark that as an unfortunate incident and in many ways I feel official people who work in these "help" organizations need better training to look for signs of troubled people. This guy should have been given psychological help and this would have never happen. I think the professionals need to realize times are changing and people are becoming more violent and psychotic.
