gerald farrier was my dad....this happened months after i was born,never to see him,never to know him...i can say im proud of his heroic act,even if it took him away from us..

..Im also proud to say i was stationed on the USS Forrestal at Mayport Fla while in the Navy...

Chief Farrier is a hero and I found out he was not honored for his bravery and sacrifice of his life to save others. I wonder if it's possible to change that...

@Robin360 You are correct, Although the new fire training facility was named after him. My uncle was also on the Forrestal. He go hit in the back with schrapnel and asphalt and suffered 3rd degree burns. He was thrown off the back of the deck and came to in a catch net. He is also a hero. It is moments like this that define a man's courage. This mad moment was captured on film. I wonder how many times bravery of this magnitude was displayed and no one was there to record the event?

@daylife17777 Well who knows what disasters have been avoided because this happened? Safety is safety no matter how annoying it may be.

@daylife17777 There are many dead and injured people that was the cause of someone taking a short cut in safety. It was to inconvienent or uncomfortable to be safe. I work in the nuclear industry and my how times have changed. Now we have to carry a little red book that reviews all company policies on safety and nuclear safety prior to each job assignment. It takes time to do this everytime but it takes longer to investigate an injury or death. When an injury occurs all work stops.
